  1. That’s why I became confused! If one is used to two different words... Thank you!
  2. Just for my English vocab knowledge: I thought confirmation referred to the protestant variant, but interglot says it is ‘Vormsel’ which is Roman Catholic. What do you call what protestants do in English? Translation of the Dutch term would be something like: public confession of the faith. But I am pretty sure that is not used in English....
  3. Glad to hear that! Motivates me to pick up the Britt Tripp again... I think I have to think about what I will read this month yet, and what I want to save for my vacation to and in the UK.
  4. @Eliana The choir I belong to, sings a broad repertoire, I prefer to sing longer pieces above individual songs, although our conductress? does a great job in picking and matching. I would love to sing more oratoria. The singing teacher helps me to make a more mature sound now I am in my mid forties. Singing this way gives me some of the high notes back. (And some will be complete new). But we are both surprised about my range.
  5. We adore Nijntje! (Lief klein konijntje as the song says) Is www.uitzendinggemist.nl available where you are now? Or schooltv? Schooltv could be a nice step after nijntje, and so does jeugdjournaal. I am impressed, learning Dutch as foreigner doesn’t seem easy to me...
  6. Thank you for the clarifications! The book looked so much fun to me :) Are you familiair with the biographies written by Catherine Reef? DD has read several of them, and I wondered of her Bronte Sisters would be a better fit for your ESL students.
  7. I saw the book on your Goodreads. Do you think I could read it in English? I read a lot about the brontes last years, but I don’t know how good I am in wordplay. Obviously it has not been translated (yet).
  8. Since the board went down I finished: Underground (adventure book about speleology) Sekte (about a scientology church type of group on a island) In vredesnaam (about the peace of Utrecht and a consparicy in current times against men) The mirror maker (pretty boring for a thriller) Toevluchtsoord (about a Flemish Beguine ‘hof’ with a lot of clerics who don’t behave as they should) Daring to drive ( good book, and push in my back to dare to drive myself) The eye of the mirror (about a Lebenon civil war in 1975) I almost finished 2 rows of the Lit Hub Bingo, still thinking about which author I would like to meet IRL...
  9. @ quote of Virginia Woolf: what is her definition of grown up? 18+? 40+? If it is just a way to say: this book is not geared to (young) children I agree
  10. I just finished part three: where Featherstone died and Casaubon got a heart attack and Celia is engaged. I am puzzled by the way with how few words this engagement has been told, espacially compared to the financially foolishnesses of Fred. I wonder how Mary became so calm. Is het her name? I think I would have much more emotions
  11. First exams are planned: German Oral, English Written, (eventually retake of French Oral) English Oral will be taken before summerbreak and we are still waiting for dates for Dutch Oral. This is just for september/oktober so far.
  12. :) Unfortunetly no results yet. I had hoped the Easter Break would make getting the grades sooner, not later. :( Coming Wednessday they should publish the grades at last, according their own rules... Meanwhile the examplanning for september & october has been reveiled. So in May she will have English Oral, in September German Oral (And retaking French Oral, if necessary); October English Written. Now I am just waiting for the dates for Dutch Oral. And for the grade for French written.
  13. I also was looking for the PM function and still cannot find it. PM-ing would be extremely helpfull
  14. For Ebooks / Kindle books I use the app on my tablet. I like them for books in English and other foreign languages as they have often a linked dictionary :) I start to dislike very cheap pockets with yellow or grey paper and small font. I also dislike bad glued paperbacks that can’t stay open..
  15. For French: (I don’t live in the USA so have no clue what is avalaible for you) Loulou de Montmartre Ernest et Celestine Sans Famille Kerity Nicolas *** Meurtre au Paradis Cyrano de Bergerac L’ avart
  16. I mist have done something wrong: man 18-24 highschool education..l
  17. In the category learning new and exciting: I have singing lessons since february or so, and while the board was down I reached a high note. Obviously there is no relationship :D But it is good to find my notes back :)
  18. I am here! and totally lost in Middlemarch but did a solid job in bingo reading (= printed so offline available) no grades for French Written so far :(
  19. Hello all, dd will attend several exit exams in 2018-2019. We start this Fall with English and German both at a B2(+/C1) level. Dd attended French exit exam last month, and discovered the B2 Delf Exam Book was a good preparation to the Flemish Exit Exam. So we are looking for something similar for German (DaF) and English (EFL) Just to get used on the testing format. We used this for French exam: https://www.amazon.fr/clés-nouveau-DELF-B2-Livre/dp/841665770X/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1523454357&sr=8-4&keywords=Delf+B2&dpID=516vI1QD4YL&preST=_SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch Anybody experience with Goethe or Cambridge exams? Do they have exam books like Delf? With audio?
  20. No. People need friends, though. Maybe when dd is in college she will find some age related friends.
  21. Thank you for sharing your experiences! I am only a little bit ashamed that you did all the travel to Paris, and I living so close still never have been there....
  22. I am totally lost in the Britt Tripp. Having the boards down made me aware I read more when I am reading about what you guys are reading. It was great for my crocheting though, but now I have to find my reading habit back... I did read for some Bingo squares, some Medieval set books. I did not care much about them. I did like the book ‘ In vredesnaam’ (In the name of peace) very much. Part of it was set at the time of the Peace of Utrecht. Part of it was set in current times. I know Utrecht well, and liked to mind travel through the streets :) The ‘women against men’ consparicy was well written. It was a while ago I really enjoyed a book, and this is a new one :) No grades for French exam yet, so we become a little nervous. checking the examboard way too often....
  23. Just relieved dd is safe back home from her first solo traintrip from probably future College (Netherlands) to home (Belgium). There went a lot wrong during the journey, she handled and solved everything well, had a great time at her - what would this study look like for high schoolstudents - tour. She had several colleges, a practicum and a campus tour. We went to an open door day last fall together, but this was really for students only. She spend the night with family and travelled today homewards. I think I can sleep tonight :)
