  1. Honestly, I think the real, raw feelings are shared with friends- not parents (unless you have an unusually close relationship). Kids that don't seem bothered are the ones the counselors at our high school are most concerned about. At least per their messages to parents. YMMV of course.
  2. We also have a child with mental health issues (thankfully under control now for 3 years) so we have made similar calculations. Other parents in the group have come to a similar conclusion. It has helped immeasurably for them to be together.
  3. Good morning! Another hot day here. Dh is going into the office today- so that means I can get stuff done. ds2 is plugging away during finals week- I am impressed by his college and their upholding standards- but a lot of work to do all alone in the basement. Certainly didn't see that with the other schools. Tennis today? I have no idea. coffee/paper water beds/ dry spot in yard school with ds3 (he is finishing up 2 classes and starting test prep work) dust kitchen mop kitchen floor grocery store (?) Only if I have a car other chores as they arise brats for dinner Have a great day!
  4. I am so sorry, fairfarmhand. And actually, yes, it is a big deal. I am sorry about her job and the uncertainty of the fall. I do think it is harder now that school work has ended. All of my dd's friends are at loose ends- no jobs or severely reduced hours, no sports, just waiting around for the "powers that be" to make some decisions.
  5. The above is for California, right? Oregon has a different situation, I think.
  6. It really doesn't matter if it was a church or a business that filed. If the governor needs the approval of the legislature to extend their emergency powers, then the governor needs to get that approval. If the governor can't convince the legislature- it is unlikely they can convince the people, that is why the law or the constitution is written that way. If your state doesn't have that rule, you don't have much recourse or influence. Expect to see one introduced in your next legislative session.
  7. Good morning! Another hot day today- might have to turn on the A/C for the first time. The pool for training was shut down- again- because of warring health departments. It would be great for some guidance here. So who knows now what will happen? Dh sent a bunch of emails and made phone calls and not one person was willing to take any responsibility for answering his questions. And one person just lied to him outright. Sigh. The kids headed out to get a free dozen donuts for class of 2020- so at least they are up and moving. And it is allergy time again- what with windows open, fans blowing and everything blooming. coffee/paper bills/electronic chores time in garden- already done some things soils engineer check for water- just have to leave the gate open (done) school with ds3 read laundry (started) general cleaning/pick up ds3 to courts later not sure what else Have a great day!
  8. Good morning! Today is going to be the first hot day- I have to clean the fans this morning and water the garden beds. coffee/paper water beds laundry clean fans ds3 to courts school with ds3 general pick and clean bathrooms read handwork or work in sewing room not sure what else Have a great day!
  9. Of all the people I know who reported being sick with Covid symptoms- only one was sick enough to get tested. Everyone else thought it was a flu, so didn't go in. my dd2 called the office- but she didn't get tested for anything because she didn't run a fever. She had exactly the same set of symptoms as a college friend who was tested because she came home from N.O. Including no fever. Her friend tested positive. Nobody seems to be very motivated to get antibody tests- or willing to stand behind them.
  10. I absolutely think it was here in December. A friend's daughter flew home from a study program in China right before Christmas with a cold and her whole family was sick in early January. The parents (obese) were terribly ill for three full weeks - but the teens were a little sick, but not sick enough to stay home from school or work. My dd2's friend group had a terrible flu-like thing go through their group at the end of February (one girl hospitalized and tested negative for flu). Everyone coughing but except for the one girl, no one missed school. Dd2 didn't have a fever- but neither did several people she knew who tested positive after Mardi Gras. Ds3 and I felt like a truck plowed over us for a couple of days- but that was it. So yes, I believe it was here in December and freely circulating around in February.
  11. Good morning! We are headed into a stretch of lovely early summer weather. I expect lots of time outside for most everyone in the house. I switched out my clothes and did a ton of decluttering in the bedroom yesterday- so I am feeling ready for summer! coffee/paper wander in garden watch some NASCAR- baby! ds3 to hit with a friend read/update calendar try to get things under control and ready for the week no idea about dinner- proabably leftover pork roast Have a great day!
  12. Good morning! So nice to see you Pink and Green! Waving wildly from Colorado! It will be a beautiful day in the low seventies. The roses came and were planted last night- right before the rain and storms. Today- people are in and out- hikes, tennis, bike rides, etc. I am going to do some weeding and catching up the garden journal. coffee/paper quick pick-up and general cleaning send some emails read a little and enjoy the outside not sure what else Have a great day!
  13. Rural health may be poor (probably not worse than inner city)- but reservations are a completely different situation.
  14. Selkie, it is easy to open a pool for training. Very, very hard to allow open swim and water parks. Lots of pools are mostly water slides and shallow entry pools. Teams will pay for lanes. We are paying a premium of $200 a month over our regular dues for access to this pool.
  15. Amy, we haven't had any official announcements but since there won't be sectional or national meets- we are assuming no meets. And none will be certified anyway -says USA swimming. We are short on outdoor training pools - so pools are very slow to get approved to open. Right now only seniors and college swimmers who paid their dues and did the USA safe sport certification are training at this private pool 3x times a week for 1hour sessions. Not even close to adequate but better than nothing.
  16. Good morning! Fairly busy day today- I have the last shipment of roses coming. coffee/paper laundry- sheets and things on handwash cycle get ds3 up and working work in garden- get sites ready ds3 to hit at courts put in roses when they come shower, relax, read not sure what else Have a great day!

  19. Good morning! dh went to the office yesterday- it was so nice. He will only be doing that once a week for now, I think. He will be working from home today. 20. Good morning! It is cold and cloudy this morning- dh went for a bike ride. And everyone is still asleep. I am not sure what is on for the day- tennis, school, etc. coffee/paper clean up bedroom laundry? school with ds3 take him to hit with a friend- might be too cold garden when it is warmer general clean up not sure what else Have a great day!
  21. Happy Mother's Day! dh dropped off gifts for his mother and mine yesterday. ds1 just called and he was called in to work (hallelujah!) as the restaurant opened up last week and they need all hands on deck for Mother's Day. He also finally heard from the unemployment office and will be getting a lump sum of back pay. So he is set for the summer. And he is so happy to get back to work. Our coaches found a private pool that got permission to open- so dd2 practiced yesterday and will practice again this morning. The tennis courts re-opened yesterday. Things are bouncing back a little at a time. dd1's iternship went to completely virtual- but at least not cancelled. She is disappointed but feels fortunate as well. I have nothing planned- call my mom later (she has a Zoom church meeting) and enjoy the sunshine- but cool- day. Have a great day!
  22. My son got two calls yesterday- one, asking him back to work (restaurant) and the other from the state employment office saying he will get back pay from when he filed (March 13th). So it took that long to be processed and he hasn't actually seen any money yet. He is more excited about going back to work. Same with all his co-workers.

  24. Good morning! It is cooler today- but the sun is starting to peek out. I have picked up most of the things the wind tossed about last night. Another day- dh might get to go to the office once a week in June. So that was good news. But it was tempered by silly possibilities floated by dd2's university. And the parent newletter for the new team- oh dear. Yes, I know the president of that group and the team captain- long memories here in age group swimming. All the times I smiled and nodded, and bit my tongue and didn't gossip are proving the soundness of that advice. Which I have given to many a newbie parent who completely ignores it. You never know who will cross your path in 15 years. coffee/paper bills/check bank probably need to go to the grocery store time in the garden oversee school read a little general pick up no idea about dinner Have a great day!
