  1. Can you tell me more about the steel cut oats? How much oats/liquid and what setting? I make a big batch on the stove every week so this would be quicker!
  2. I just used mine for the first time but somehow messed up hard boiled eggs lol. They are yellowish... Maybe cooked too long? Don't know. Black beans is one thing I am looking forward to using it for.
  3. My MIL lives with us but she requires 24/7 care so that might be a little different. We weren't a eat together as a family family to start, even though I would like to, so that doesn't affect us. At times she and my daughter will eat at the table together if their meal times happen to fall together. MIL would be happy to eat in her room but having her come out to eat, not only gets her out of her room but also helps her keep moving. She is content to stay in her room most of the day, rotating between reading (can't anymore due to recent eye trouble), TV, and naps. I tried for a while to encourage her to be with us but it didn't work. Outings are what are tough on me. We have yet to find a caregiver so she is pretty much with me if I am out of the house unless my husband tends to be home. She gets disappointed in the mornings if I say we aren't going anywhere (and usually the fact I have no where to be is a blessing for me), or she is disappointed if my husband is home and I go other my daughter and MIL realizes she is missing out Time by yourselves will be so very important.
  4. When my daughter was that age she wore sweats and an under armour shirt under her gear (she played again this year and that was still her go to for clothes under gear at 12) I think from 4-6 I was still doing most of the work putting her gear on.
  5. This may not work with all pills, but I do a lot better if I take them with milk. I gag a lot more when I take them with water.
  6. It can. However, it is only for situations like softball and hockey. Ones that I need to pull up that took place over multiple months. The last few years I filed them monthly and it was a pain to find the photos at the end of the season. I also don't put every softball photo of my daughter in the softball folder. Obviously I end up with a lot more of her than the other players lol. It is mainly set up so that I can quickly access them for the team.
  7. I do the same. Yearly folder and then monthly folders. If I am shooting something outside normal family stuff, that folder gets its own name and depending whether it is only during a specific month, I will file it in the month or year (for instance softball photos of my daughter will get filed under the month they happen but I end up with a softball folder for the team as well.
  8. I was listening to the live feed and really am surprised this ended as it did. He had been saying that if they attempted to move in on him, he was prepared to take his own life. He was going to die by his hand or theirs if they did not allow him to remain there.
  9. He surrendered. He had said he would not go alive but he just walked out.
  10. Here you just take to the help counter, they scan it and give you the money.
  11. Can you redeem where you get groceries? It's almost worth it, if you don't have to make a special out of the way trip. (Take that for what it's worth because I am the type to also pick up pennies off the ground lol).
  12. Take it in... At least here (WA) free ticket = cash for the cost of the ticket!
  13. Good point about the EEG especially on meds. I know since there was no evidence just speculation the neurologist wanted to give it a try hopefully going off the seizure meds might bring back some cognitive understanding. It was worth a try but honestly I would rather have her one the meds than have her having seizures and risking a fall. I'm usually within 20-30 feet of her but not always within eyesight so unless there are signs she has had one or she falls, we might not catch a small seizure. I told my husband that I will treat any fall in the near future as if she had a seizure. We have only had one fall in 18months so it would be likely.
  14. We actually have an appointment for cardio tomorrow so I will be mentioning it.
  15. Thank you for your info too. It's hard to say what she was really aware of due to speech issues, confusion (normal), dementia, etc. (also has a traumatic brain injury). What I picked up is she couldn't move her hand while whatever was going on, my husband interpretation (1/2 hr later when he spoke to her was she said they were shaking and she couldn't move them.
  16. Thank you for the expansion on what I said, I know what to look further for if it happens again. After reading up on strokes, I really don't think it was one. Within a couple minutes, she appeared like normal again. No further confusion or weakness of any sort. We are monitoring her closely though and not allowing her to walk alone. Neurology finally called and said to monitor and if it happens again, she needs to be seen.
  17. I guess I should look up stroke symptoms and read up on that while I wait. She walked out for lunch and is acting as normal as she normally does right now. She did want to lay down, but that is normal for lots of cat naps, and that was 1/2 hr after the episode. She went back to reading the paper.
  18. Rambling while I wait for a call back, maybe someone has insight... I think my MIL just had a seizure. Waiting for a call back from the neurology office, guessing they are at lunch. Front desk put the message through as urgent. She has been on seizure meds for years. Story is they weren't sure if she was having seizures or strokes or what, so I am guessing the medication was a precaution. She moved in with us 18 mos ago and we started working with a neurologist here who said there was disagreement in her file between her previous primary and the neurologist. A month ago she had a EEG which showed no seizure activity so he thought it would be ok to start weaning off the meds. Yesterday was the first day completely off, which is one reason I suspect a seizure. Thankfully she was sitting down but I heard her call out and when I went in she wasn't sure what was going on. (We have speech and confusion too which makes it difficult). She had a blank expression on her face like she could not see and said she couldn't move her hand when whatever happened, happened. She also showed her hands shaking to show what was going on. Said it really scared her. I'm concerned of it happening while she is moving from one place in the other in the house so we have asked that we are with her at all times when she is standing/walking until we find out what is going on.
  19. My daughter is also researching for her guinea pigs she will get after the first of the year. Since I was already with my dog at the vet this morning, I asked whether they also saw giinea pigs. Only one doctor there does but not often. Turns out the other two are allergic the guinea pigs. Never really considered that prior to hearing the vet tech tell me.
  20. My daughter is going to be the 10th doctor and she is currently trying to finish up a cardboard Tardis to collect her candy in. Unfortunately it is forecasted to rain quite a bit on Halloween so she is considering leaving it at home (vs still carrying it in a clear plastic bag if it raining lightly). Backup plan is to use the Dalek fabric she bought to make a pillowcase to collect the candy in.
  21. It's at a theatre in Portland, OR Box office wasn't too helpful. Can't exchange, can't refund, no ADA waiting list... They would prefer that they be resold to someone who needs ADA seating, but understands if I can not do that. However, when asked what would happen if they were sold to someone without a wheelchair, they could not tell me if a seat would be provided. Just called the theatre and they were more helpful in the fact that yes, they will bring in a chair if needed for that fourth seat. Now I have to decide when to make the call to go/not go. I have head/chest cold, not much coughing, but MIL was throwing up last night. If it happens today, I will try to sell since she seems to have a pattern and it tends to point to something else being wrong (multiple days of throwing up -hospital stay)
  22. So a month ago, we decided to get tickets for Wicked for this Thursday. Needed to buy ADA seats since MIL is in a wheelchair. Due to sickness, we might not be able to go tomorrow.. Can I just offer/sell the tickets to anyone? Pretty sure there are no refunds. I tried sending an email to the theatre using an email for ADA seats and it bounced. I would like to recoup what we paid sow e can buy tickets for next week.
  23. No but member's children yes... At my daughter's friend's birthday party a couple/few years back, there were a couple kids there and it was nagging me... After questioning the friend a couple week's later, I realized I recognized them from the member's posts here and from her blog.
  24. Our mastiff mix did this to us one on his first road trip. He had peed away from home before but I think the traveling made him nervous. That combined with not returning to his own yard. I think it was close to 24 hours, because I am pretty sure we stopped for a night. He was probably around 70-80 lbs at the time.
