  1. (Hugs). Can they exercise inside? Set out towels and have them drag each other across the floor. Wheelbarrow racing (holding feet while walking in hands). Sit and spin seats. Indoor roller skating. Is there a bathroom that they can use to make a mess? Set up a soapy water station and play clean the toys. Or give measuring plastic cups or pipettes. I agree with PP- if your husband is expected to be out of commission, you should consider a mother’s helper for a couple months. As an aside, I’d also consider disability insurance.
  2. I think quick certifications are smart.
  3. Also, I assume they’ve traveled back to FL over the years? FL from decades ago is very unlike FL today in a lot of places.
  4. Sorry idk that area. All snowbirds who are retired should consider logistics as if it were a permanent home: are good hospitals close by, is there transportation available in case they can’t drive (or delivery services for groceries, etc), where will they live if they are unable to live independently, etc. A lot of people who live here as retirees and who age away from family, are now 1,000 miles away from family to help. A lot of medical concerns do not lend well to travel during that time so careful plans should be in place. I do understand a body’s intolerance to cold, and appreciate it. A lot of people feel the same way.
  5. Thinking of you. I’m hoping you’re recovering well.
  6. Is it possible to focus on some things you know the school can provide better than you can? Maybe academics, extracurriculars, events, or experiences? Parents are just trying to do the best for their kids, and maybe if the school positives are really good it might help your focus to think, “DS can do AP chemistryâ€, or whatever? I’d also focus on self - what things would you like to accomplish for you? Have something to look forward to for your self.
  7. We used hostels when traveling through Europe. I would prefer that option for safety, as they are regular businesses, with employees operating the desk, can choose same sex rooms if desired, etc. Air b&b can be a toss up, as they are personal private rooms.
  8. Enjoy!! If you don’t mind missing a few hours, go early in the am- much cooler, and then retreat by noon or after lunch to a hotel or swimming, and come back to the park when it will starts to “cool†a bit.
  9. Maybe paper coupons, like free day from chores, pick dinner option, movie pass, etc?
  10. Small and larger coins, some candy. Anything larger won’t fit.
  11. With sensory pickiness, food chaining can help (eating foods very similar to current accepted foods), as well as sensory desensitizing. Start with juices of fruit he likes, switch to sweetened cooked purées, or jams, move to purees with a little texture in them, then chunks, etc. Use sneaky chef recipes for some foods (muffins with pureed banana or applesauce), puréed fruit popsicles and shakes/smoothies.
  12. ETA 3- if she has such a restrictive diet, you may be able to consult with pediatric OT feeding specialists and nutritionists (sometimes there’s a feeding clinic at childrens’ hospitals), to help give you medical help to expand the diet, if pickiness is the root cause, or whatever. Ok, no more ETAs.
  13. ETA 2- if she’s tired all the time, I’d get a check up anyway to get the blood work and anything else. Pretty atypical for a 9 year old.
  14. ETA- I have a fairly ok diet, but I tend toward easy vegetables that don’t have much iron, and lowish carb (so no fortified foods). I can go days without animal protein as well. I need a supplement to prevent anemia just because my intake is so low.
  15. My kids have about zero iron intake per day. Well, not quite that low, but very low d/t diet. You can calculate daily recommended intake and record his diet on MyFitnessPal for a few days or a week to calculate iron amount (or just on a paper). Then find the difference and supplement that amount. We use chewables from amazon, (celebrate and ez iron), one for the grape taste (celebrate), and the other for small size. If the amount needed daily is a half pill, you can just give one every other day. Most doctors will want a blood test first before just starting iron, but if you calculate to a close amount the iron intake, and know what’s necessary, in a picky eater, it’s not a great leap to conclude he may need some.
  16. Done. Was a political survey part of it or did I just randomly do a different survey too? 😄
  17. Praying for a quick recovery and lots of wbc production.

I always see people cry at church. IMO it can be an expected place to show emotion that may be usually reserved. I don’t count in church as crying in public, but of course you may feel differently. Just be aware others may not even blink an eye at your emotion and may assume it’s normal. (Hugs)
  19. Spelling you see for lower levels is not a lot. They recommend only ten minutes of dictation per day.
  20. Ok, some more good options! I’m excited to try something different :)
  21. I’ll look at Memoria press. I thought there was onliy a few, but with only a couple months left in fourth grade that may be best. :)
  22. I have to see. What does eltl mean? Something ... through lit? Exploring Lang through lit? Is it a grammar program combined with lit? I may have to skip grammar, but I’ll look into it too. Not that grammar is bad, just that I’m trying to separate out some stuff because of need. So I don’t “need†a grammar program, but if it’s mentioned while discussing, that’s fine.
  23. Yes, it looks excellent and I need to study it more in depth to see if it will be too much/intensive.
  24. ETA - I found some good looking guides by teacher created resources literature on different novels.
  25. Yes, Socratic method is great, and I should just learn more about it for lit discussions. I’m not always able to read along so I was hoping for some minimal guidance as a backup plan. MBYP sounds good. I’ll look into it. I didn’t know there were individual units.
