  1. I use the Crock Pot Stoneware Slow Cooker. It is the Smart Pot and you can program the time with it, also. I have had this one for several years and it has been my favorite. I have a larger capacity Hamilton Beach and don't like that one at all. Every time I use it, it always gets too hot, even on the low setting.
  2. You can always call them...as I said, they are very helpful and probably will be able to assist you with what you are looking for exactly.
  3. Yes, we also get ours from Home Training Tools. They are very helpful and they have super fast shipping, too.
  4. We are starting back on Monday, the 5th, too. I need some of the down time and by that time my kids are ready to get back to a regular schedule. We may go to the library on the Friday before that, just to gear up for that Monday morning. I would like some time to rethink some curriculum and especially to get some things scheduled. I wish I could de-clutter some before the new year....but I don't seem to get that accomplished.
  5. I was 35, delivering at 36, when I had my last pregnancy. It was harder on me, at least physically. I was nauseated throughout the whole pregnancy, but I don't believe that was due to my age. My mom was 42 when she had me. That was without problems and all the medical advances that are available now. Aside from her being a little more tired, no problems.
  6. I love the Startwrite software for making any type of copywork/handwriting sheets. It has been one of our best investments.
  7. My kids pick out books from the Beginning Readers at the library. These seem to be just the right length for either them reading them to me or me reading them. They love to be able to pick them out themselves and it seems like they are more interested in them, too. We read many of the Begining to Read biographies, too. We also like Little Bear books, Pinky and Rex, and Hank the Cowdog is a big hit.
  8. You should check out Little Hands to Heaven. It is a fun way to do "school" without feeling like you are doing too much. The little ones love the finger plays and rhymes. Its a wonderful, easy thing to do for that age.
  9. If anone has used the Old Testament or New Testament, I would like your opinions. I was thinking of getting these just to use as Bible supplement, not on a daily basis. Would they work for that? Would love some opinions on how you are using this?
  10. Thank you, for posting this website. I have had this book and have wondered how to incorporate it into our studies. This is great....
  11. We love parsnips here, too. You can just cut them up in any size chunks and coat with olive oil and sea salt. Spread out on a cookie sheet and bake until roasted doneness. Yum! I have also cut them in long strips, like fries and done them up in the oven the same way. They are wonderful and my kids will eat them up, just like oven fries.
  12. We have never done copywork this way, but it is an idea. I do use Startwrite to formulate sheets for our copywork and that works out great. To learn the keyboard, we just use computer games....sorry I can't be of much help!
  13. I loved Little Hands to Heaven. My littlest are 2 years apart and we did this when they were 3 and 5....they loved it, too. Very easy to open and go.
  14. We have been using the Explorers CD and I really am liking it. I am using it with my 7 and 9 year old. It is just enough for us to do without over doing it on the projects. The lapbook is done over time, so its not overwhelming at all. We are enjoying making the notebook pages, too...and when we are done will have a very neat memory of this study period. I have been going slower with it, though. I usually have been using about 2 days to go over 1 day of the study material. So far our favorite has been learning to tie the knots. My 9 year old son has his rope out every day and has been doing that. I am planning on moving onto the Colonial one when we are finished with this one.
  15. Forgot to say....you can get this at Target where they carry the "infomercial" type stuff. Just FYI!
  16. I love mine...especially for making salsa. So easy! Do not buy the knock off brands of this, though...the plastic is much cheesier and won't do the job that the original does...in my opinion.
  17. Thanks for all the input......this will be very helpful in preparing. I've done these several times before, but never write down what I actually end up doing. I wish that I could help some of you out in getting a roast. We raise our own beef and always have this cut done up....its a blessing!
  18. Can someone give me a tried and true recipe for making a prime rib roast? I have two of them thawing for Christmas Day and would love them to turn out perfect... Thanks.
  19. I have made these several times and they turn out perfect every time. Place ingred in bread machine in order listed. 1 c. warm water 2 T. butter 1 egg 2 T. sugar 1 T. powdered milk 1/2 T. salt 3 1/4 c. flour 2 1/2 t. yeast Run bread machine on dough program. Form into buns and place in greased 9 x 13 pan. Makes 12-15 rolls (depending on size you like). Let rise in pan for 40 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 18 minutes. Butter tops when you remove them from the oven and cool on baking rack (out of the pan).
  20. We make our own by mixing Heavy Whipping Cream and brown sugar together. I don't have exact measurements, we just go by the golden brown color. My kids love this! I make up a big batch and then just store it in the frigerator. You can reheat it up as you need it.
