  1. That's not week 0! You're out there being active. Good job!
  2. Congrats on finishing c25k! What a great idea for keeping going too.
  3. Since we seem to be slowing down (and some have completed the whole c25k -- yay!) I added a bunch more workouts to the poll to keep us going until September 5. At that point we can decide if we still want a poll or if we just keep chatting in this thread. Hopefully I can get out there later this week. My ankle is starting to feel pretty good. I think I will try cycling the trail before running it. I'll let you know what I find!
  4. Books! We're planning to get a new bookshelf soon. We already have the books to fill it. :)
  5. I may try the trail I was concerned about before. Everyone I have talked to thinks it is safe and I am being overly paranoid. Or, I may try cycling the trail. I thought I couldn't run due to knee issues and my knees have been fine. Cycling was the other thing I couldn't do. Maybe my knees will hold up better than my ankles!
  6. So cute!!! And a little different than the history I remember...
  7. I have been wondering how to start with this. Would you recommend the equipment you purchased? What would we need to start?
  8. Keep going, everyone! You've made it so far from where you started. I saw my Dr. today about my ankle. I am no longer allowed to run on pavement, but she gave the go-ahead to try trail running once I have recovered (another week or more).
  9. The new week is posted! http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/560103-couch-to-5k-august-9-15/
  10. It's a new week. Everyone is doing so well with getting out there and moving. Yay! It is great to see how far everyone has come. Congrats to everyone who has finished the 9 weeks! Are you going to keep going? Aim for a 10k (there's an app for that!)? Anyone else have a race scheduled? ETA: ok, I cheated and added a bunch more workouts to the poll. Keep going in this thread! :)
  11. It was frustrating to miss this week due to my ankle. I will be missing next week too. I have been looking for a way to run on trails once I recover, and I think I have it figured out. Now I just need that ankle to cooperate and hope that the problem is pavement. It does wreck my chance at running a 5k race though, which I was looking forward to. Unless I find a trail race... My other news is that I sprained my wrist today. DH says I am falling to pieces! Greta, how is your ankle?
  12. I got Beast all three times. We are starting it next month, so hopefully we are on the right track!
  13. Ocean: Jessie's Island describes life on an island on the West Coast. It is a lovely book and sounds exactly like what you are looking for. The main character writes a letter to her city-dwelling cousin to tell him about what there is to do on an island. http://www.amazon.com/Jessies-Island-Classic-Sheryl-McFarlane/dp/0920501761
  14. Still keeping you and your family in my thoughts. :grouphug:
  15. In future, thaw meat in the fridge. Keeps out cats and it doesn't get into the danger zone.
  16. She is so sweet! And so cuddly looking. Beautiful!
  17. It's hanging in little ds' closet. He's too young to care that it is there, but I will probably have to decide what to do with it in the next couple of years. I didn't have daughters, so I have no one to pass it on to. I still don't want to part with it.
  18. Ds always replies that he doesn't go to school. He says it an offhand way that is pretty funny. "Oh, school? Yeah, I don't do that." I used to be mortified and jump in to explain that we homeschool and that yes, he does do "school". Now I just chuckle and let people ask him follow-up questions because his answers are entertaining. "Well, sometimes we do science and stuff..." (see signature for all the things he doesn't think are school)
  19. My main concern is people. I live in a suburb-type area with a lot of public land, including large areas of forest. There are great trails, which are used by a lot of people, but at any given time may be completely deserted. This is a very safe area and I'm sure I would be fine, but it was drilled into my head growing up that you don't go places like that alone. I think starting back at week 1 and then perhaps trying a day from week 2 and then 3 is a good way for you to ease back in. I hope your ankle is all healed up now. Mine is not too great this morning and I am worried that I may not be able to continue. :( I have never seen a roadrunner. That sounds so cool! The coyote sounds alarming though. We have quail here too. On my runs I see little bunnies, deer, eagles, and robins. Sometimes I hear doves but they stay hidden. Occasionally there is a cougar in our area, but I wouldn't run any trails until it had been found and relocated. Where is everyone else running? What do you see in your area?
  20. The new thread is posted: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/559438-couch-to-5k-august-2-8/
  21. It's a new week! Let's hear about the progress everyone is making. For those on track with the original program, it's the final week -- week 9. Congratulations to everyone for keeping at it, no matter which week you are on now! Reminder: To do the poll, fill in the first workout when you do 1 run. When you do your subsequent runs you need to delete your vote and then you can vote for multiple options (for example, you can select BOTH Workout 1 and Workout 2).
  22. I completed Week 4 tonight. I really didn't want to go, but couldn't miss it because it would throw me off on our weeks here at WTM. You keep me accountable! Unfortunately my ankle isn't feeling that great tonight. I did so well when I was away and running on trails. I wonder if my body just can't handle pavement? There are trails somewhat close by, but I would have to drive to them, and I wonder about their safety as they are in the forest.
