  1. Congratulations!!!! :hurray: That is very exciting! I'm so proud of you. :)
  2. King of Tokyo and Roborally are two of my son's favourites. Roborally is a great game for learning to move your piece directionally relative to your current orientation. It fosters skills that are beneficial to computer science. It is great for people with good spatial abilities.
  3. I did Week 4 day 2 yesterday while on vacation. We just got back this afternoon. I thought I would have to put my running on hold while away, but I managed to complete all three runs. I am so proud that I pushed myself to get out there! My family was very supportive and encouraging, making sure I kept to the running schedule. I found a beautiful trail system and really enjoyed my time running and watching nature.
  4. My kids love Kiki! Ponyo has a character that is a bit scary if your kids are sensitive. Arrietty is adapted from The Borrowers and is a charming movie.
  5. My ankle took three weeks to recover, and it was really fragile for awhile after that. It is definitely frustrating recovering from an injury. It sounds like you either need more recovery time or to see a physiotherapist.
  6. Week 4 day 1 complete! I'm still on vacation and very proud of myself for continuing with my running schedule. I found a lovely trail and had a great run this morning.
  7. It is! Here's the link: http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/558741-couch-to-5k-july-26-august-1/ I posted it a day early because I'm on vacation and Sunday was full of plans.
  8. Project of Heart has many resources and might have what you are looking for: http://projectofheart.ca/what-is-project-of-heart/ ETA: their reading list (sorted by age) is here: http://projectofheart.ca/1594-2/
  9. It's a new week! Let's hear about the progress everyone is making. For those on track with the original program, it's week 8 already. How exciting that you can do a long run now! I'll bet that didn't seem possible at the beginning. If you haven't started yet, it is not too late. We are doing the Couch to 5K beginner running plan. Several of us have either repeated weeks or started over, so we are at different points. Take the plunge and join us! Reminder: To do the poll, fill in the first workout when you do 1 run. When you do your subsequent runs you need to delete your vote and then you can vote for multiple options (for example, you can select BOTH Workout 1 and Workout 2).
  10. Week 3 complete! I am very pleased with myself because I am on vacation right now and have a ton of great excuses for not running. But I did it!!
  11. Week 3 day 2 complete! We go on holidays starting tomorrow. It will be a challenge to keep going while away, but I'm packing my shoes and will give it a try.
  12. That sounds like a great goal!
  13. Arbutus unedo gets large decorative berries in winter. We had one at our last place and people always thought we decorated it for Christmas. (make sure to get the smaller variety) You can get a few varieties of dogwood in shrub form (they also come as trees, so make sure to check!). They are deciduous, but the stalks are brilliant red, pink, or yellow depending on the variety so they provide a lot of winter interest.
  14. Week 3, Day 1 complete! It was much easier having fewer intervals. The three minute run segments were not a problem. I don't think I could do this without music though. I was singing along (in my head) and before I knew it the intervals were done. Without music I would have been checking the clock.
  15. The new week is posted! http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/558107-couch-to-5k-july-19-25/
  16. It's a new week! Let's hear about the progress everyone is making this week. Hopefully not too many are sidelined with injuries. It is hard to stick to this with all the busyness that summer brings, but just get out there once or twice if that is all you can manage right now. Slow and steady!
  17. How exciting!! We will be cheering you on!
  18. Week 2 complete! I'm back to where I was when I got injured. I'm so much more careful now with where I step and in not going too fast. I've learned a lot because of the injury. My ankle is holding up ok so far. Hopefully I will be able to complete the longer runs. I have my eye on an 8k in October. It is too soon to commit yet though.
  19. Good for you!!! It's tough to stick with this in bad weather. Slow and steady is my plan too. :)
  20. We have "Art in Story: Teaching Art History to Elementary Children" in Kindle format. It contains very little of the art itself, but it discusses things to look for when you do view the art. It would work very well if you were traveling to see the art in person. It is somewhat similar to SOTW in how it presents a story to engage the students. For each story there is also a journal writing activity and an art or drama project for the children to do. It has an extensive list of references for each chapter, including children's books about the time period or artist, and audiovisual material that corresponds. Each chapter also contains ideas to bring art history into other areas of the curriculum, and includes ideas/projects for math, science, social studies, literature and music. http://www.amazon.com/Art-Story-Teaching-Elementary-Children/dp/1591583594/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437139875&sr=8-1&keywords=Art+in+story
  21. I would supplement with games and math activities. The books "Family Math" and "Games for Math" are excellent for supplement activities.
