  1. me, but mine is due to a combination of things (super thick uterine lining and fibroids---one is the size of my fist--ugh) Im currently exploring treatment options since not only am I dealing with a long, heavy flow, but I'm also in pain all month long. The gyn said she recommends a hysterectomy, but Im not willing to go that route at this point (plus Id like to keep all my parts if possible)
  2. We just went through this on July 4th. Youngest DS came to me and told me he had money stuck in his throat. I wasn't sure if he meant he swallowed it and it wouldn't come out so it was "stuck", or if it really was stuck in his throat. One ER visit and $100 later we found out it he did indeed swallow a coin and it was in his tummy (we had thought it was a dime based on DSs description and the size on the xray). 2 days later a penny came out lol. The ER nurse told me DS was the 3rd kid there that week for swallowing money. Another little boy had a coin stuck at the entrance to his stomache...so the Dr had him to jumping jacks to try and get it to go into the stomache so they could avoid surgery ( I think it worked b/c the nurse never mentioned the boy needed surgery)
  3. wanted to add, we also like the explode the code books (if you didn't want an entire curriculum)
  4. could you maybe just do Story of the World Vol 1 and the activity guide this year?
  5. lol I could see this being me in the future. Right now Im considering getting 2 or 3 math programs and 2 science programs to see which is a better fit for DS3 (not to use all at once, but too look them over ). And then DS4 is such a different kid, even though I'll have curriculum left from DS3, I may need a new approach
  6. We LOVED McRuffy phonics and reading last year (kindy) and ordered it for 1st grade this year.
  7. If I feel like my DS just isn't getting what we are doing, I'll either try a different approach, or put it away and go on to something else (and try it later) Once in a while I lose my patience, but DS and I have a great relationship w/lots of communication so it works out ok. I never say anything mean, but sometimes I just get frustrated (if he's not paying attention, not listening etc).....and honestly, Im human and DS knows that Mommy can get cranky at times lol. We usually just talk it out together.

  9. do you want classic, more trendy, a family name, etc?
  10. I think on the Singapore forum that said it will be a while still...that's why I decided not to wait on them and got the USed ones instead
  11. I heard back, they were very nice They offered a $9 credit, or an exchange. I haven't emailed back yet (was too late tonight) but think I may do the exchange since only 1 of the books is consumable. I was originally going to take a credit but since I may sell these books when we are done, Id like them in good condition, kwim?
  12. I also just got the USed IP books (and tracked down a couple CWP books too)
  13. thanks so much So which abacus book do I need? (there are 2.....activities or worksheets) I think I might try that and the math games kit I do feel like part of me wants to try the complete curriculum, but I have read several people say Level B moves on at a funny pace and that worries me
  14. Which 2 HIH are you talking about? I like the idea of this approach
  15. I was hoping to use Singapore as our main math program, but I really like the idea of the abacus in RightStart as well as the use of the other manipulatives. Is it worth it to get the whole RightStart program and use it along w/Singapore, or would the Abacus and Abacus activity guide be enough? This would be for my first grader who likes math (and will later be used by my youngest son) I would love just to buy all the programs Im interested in and try them out, but Im trying to be good :D (just wanted to add, I liked Singapore Earlybird, but I do feel like its lacking something, not sure what exactly. I guess I just want to give DS a really solid start with math)
  16. thanks Looked at them now on Amazon and they definitely sound like they are too religious for my liking. Now I just need to know if I should skip them, or substitute something else
  17. I think it depends on the texture of the hair and the intensity of the curl. In our family 6 of us have curly hair....ranges from really curly and coarse, looser curls and medium/coarse, fine hair with more stringy type curls. So we have it all going on and have used lots of different things......what works for one of us doesnt necessarily work for another I have finer hair with less intense curls and I tried the curly girl routine of no shampoo (or used Deva lo-poo) and ended up with greasy, stringy curls. Mine get weighed down really easy. DD, otoh, has hair like the mane of a lion---really thick, super curly, coarse. She can get away with different methods than I can
  18. Im looking at several WP programs and am wondering if I can leave out some of these books, or if there is a good replacement: from IRL--Complete Zoo Adventure from JOI--Happy Day Books Treasury from A&TW--The World God Made (also, how is On-the-Spot“ History Fun, is it worth getting for $29?) There is so much I want and so little money LOL
  19. one gel that I really like is the Herbal Essences Totally Twisted hair gel. Its available in drug stores, Target etc and is cheap. Doesnt do a great job on controlling frizz but does define curls nicely (most frizz control products leave my hair crunchy or limp anyway) shampoos and conditioners...we use all kinds of them, and they aren't necessarily for curly hair. The only ones Ive hate have been by Pantene (totally dried out my hair).
  20. My youngest DD had a wonderful teacher for 2nd grade. She was warm and loving and created a fabulous learning environment for her students. She managed to keep some of the fun and joy in learning, which seems to be lacking in our public schools today (teaching to test is more the norm, at least here)
  21. that just breaks my heart :( She will be in my prayers My mom and grandmom are currently battling cancer too and its been a long hard road
  22. Im very interested in this....just worry that using all 4 SOTW in one year will be too much (I already bought SOTW1 and the activity guide before I looked into HIH) Is it possible to use SOTW as your base, and then add to it from HIH? Then you'd stretch HIH over a few years? (just thinking out loud, havent seen HIH in person). I know my boys would LOVE all the building in HIH
