  1. Im only h'sing 1 child (but may add in my youngest for some pre-k stuff this year) I voted 11 am.....they are late sleepers and I let them wake up a bit, eat some breakfast, then we get started on school stuff. But honestly we don't have a set time....sometime we do stuff earlier, sometimes we don't start until the afternoon. This year we are doing more so I'll probably try and schedule it a bit more
  2. not sure this will help, but I'll tell you what Im considering. I had planned on doing SOTW volume 1 with the activity guide. Then I found out about WP and liked the idea of the hideaways in HIH, but think doing all 4 SOTW in 1 year will be too much for us (DS is a young 1st grader). So, Im considering sticking with SOTW vol 1 and adding in the Clever Castles book and the MYO hideaway book. If it goes quickly we may attempt adding in SOTW 2, but I might just keep that scheduled for next year. I also might get the Usborne History of the World Encyclopedia for the pictures. I think I'll skip the On The Spot history book since I already have the SOTW activity guide For the readers, I may buy the ones included in HIH, or just supplement with books from the library (especially since we are taking the program at a slower pace and Id like to keep the readers tied in with the subject matter.) Only thing Im not sure of is if I should get the WP instructors guide, or if it will be too difficult to follow since Im altering things
  3. We did McRuffy Kindy and only did about 3 days a week. DS actually liked doing more lessons at one time instead of doing it every day
  4. have the Dr write an RX for the epi pen 2 pack....that one its one prescription (in case that's an issue with your insurance) but you'll have 2 pens. We always get the 2 pack
  5. we may up our vitamin D intake this flu season since Ive read a few articles about it helping
  6. the pencils that worked the best for us last year (wrote smoothly, leads didnt break) were Smencils of all things lol
  7. I wanted to do DS2s at birth and the Dr said they didnt do it on newborns anymore and to wait to see if it caused any problems. Well DS was ok with eating and talking BUT his tongue was so tight he couldnt even lick his lips. So when he was having surgery for something else (with the ENT) we had them go ahead a snip the tongue too. It hurt for a couple days but then it was fine...and the stitches were the dissolving kind so didn't need to be removed
  8. Thanks Ray I think Im going to try a set for DS, am I correct in assuming he would be the same level he is in Singapore math? (primary 1 in Singapore)
  9. Ive searched the boards and read up on both of these I really need to know, which one is the easiest to get done? It will be for my 1st grader and my 3 yr old will tag along when he wants to I need something straight forward and fun....if its too fussy, or if it feels too much like work, I know we won't do it (art is one of our "fun" classes). I do wonder if the Atelier dvds could be a bit of a pain since the dvd player is in the family room, and we can't do the art in there---have to do the art in th kitchen Also, for Atelier, would we want level 1 or level 2? thanks!
  10. one of the problems with anaphylaxis is that it can result in a sudden drop in blood pressure which can lead to cardiac issues We give benedryl at the first sign of a reaction and would administer the epi if the reaction involves more than one body system (for example, just hives he only gets benedryl....but hives and breathing problems, facial swelling and vomitting etc get an epi.) Each child may have their own specific guidelines for epi use Also be sure to watch for a biphasic reaction
  11. for the Japanese math, are you using both the workbook and the textbook?
  12. not to one of my kids (thank goodness) but to myself Do you have a trainer? That's how Ive taught all my kids to do it. I think the practice helps a lot. Of course there is still a bit of panic when you really have to use one
  13. 1. HP--a definite contender :D 2. Up--wait for the kids 3. Toy Story 3 ---wait for the kids 4. Public Enemies--um, Johnny Depp---this would probably be my top choice because I do love JD 5. The Proposal--looks cute and funny...a nice light movie 6. Transformers II--ehh, I think the others look better So I'd chose between HP, Public Enemies or The Proposal....are you more in the mood for wizards, sexy gangsters or a romantic comedy?
  14. not a list, but I ususally try and keep some sodium ascorbate and sambucol (sp?) in the house during flu season. Also, DH likes that Throat Coat tea
  15. I do have the lab annotations (forgot to list that) but dont have the diary. When I opened the annotations it was like look at some alien transcript lol. Maybe I just need to spend some more time looking over the program For drill I just got some triangle flash cards....but may try some of the RS games too. Do you think the whole RS level B kit would be overkill? I think I'll have DH print out some of the MEP pages and see how DS takes to them. I love presenting material with a different approach so this may work well. Just not sure what level to start with...any ideas?
  16. just wanted to add, the only year I ever had my kids get the flu shot was the year DD ended up getting the flu and developing pneumonia (and narrowly missed hospitalization). We did the vax since we had a new baby in the house, but after all that we skipped it the next time we had a new baby. One of my kids is egg allergic and can't get the vax anyway.
  17. this is exactly what I wonder about....does doing surgery on a sick mom traumatize her system to point where she can't fight off the illness? Im not wording this right b/c Im multitasking with my 3 yr old lol. In other words, if they did not do a c-section, would the mom have a greater chance at survival?
  18. I got Miquon and it just seems difficult for me to navigate....(I have the red & orange books and the rods). Since I decided to bail on that, I want to choose something else as our supplement
  19. I think the 13 yr old is responsible.....he should know its not a good idea to put a bike right behind a car. I have a rear view camera on my van but it doesnt show anything really low to the ground---I totally could have run over a bike if it was right behind my car
  20. my kids don't find out their teachers until the first day, so we don't know what they need unti then. Drives me crazy because the last thing I want to do is run around that night and try and hunt down everything
  21. I'm very cautious about getting any vaccine, especially a brand new one, when pregnant. The idea of injecting something into my body that may or may not have a negative impact on a developing baby scares the heck out of me. There would have to be extreme circumstances for me to go ahead with the swine flu shot (pregnant or not).
  22. totally know what you are saying....DS struggled a bit with am, Pam, Sam etc b/c he was saying them with a short A instead of a "whiny" A
