  1. DH and I totally do that too. We are constantly talking in movie quotes around here. :001_smile:
  2. Absolutely!! My kids have both seen it numerous times. It is one of our all-time favorites! I do admit that DH and I sing "La, la, la, la" at the top of our lungs during Clark's "Danny f---in Kaye" rant though. ;)
  3. I think that you are absolutely doing the right thing, and I commend you for it. I know that it must be extremely difficult though. :grouphug:
  4. I'm shocked that the teacher felt that it was her right to say something. She must have known that it was going to cause an uproar with some of the parents, so why would she have gone there? It definitely seems like she just wanted to make a point. If I was a teacher, I would make sure to not mention Santa at all. I don't know why it is necessary to promote it or discourage it.
  5. Good to know! At this point, our brand new puppy doesn't get one moment when she isn't constantly being watched. Not a second. This won't be changing anytime soon! If she isn't being watched, she is in her cage. I shudder to imagine the things that would happen if we didn't follow these procedures.
  6. I've never been a strong tea drinker. I drink it because I know it is good for me, and I enjoy it when I'm in the midst of a cup, but I rarely crave it. I aim to have tea time once a week, but I admit that I often don't get around to it. Part of the issue is that DH likes to have a long, drawn-out elaborate tea time, whereas I'd prefer a quick cuppa. ;) Two years ago, I lost about twenty pounds and got really thin. I felt and looked great, and I happily enjoyed more tea. However, I've gained 10 lbs. since this time last year :glare: and tea time is less appealing again.
  7. It seems like people who have tried WP either love it or hate it for the most part. I like it pretty well, but it really depends what you are looking for in a program. I have looked at the other programs for history, but they just don't seem like a good fit for us. I'm SO not interested in creating a lot of work for myself in a subject that I consider to be non-core, so that eliminates some of the choices for me. SL looks pretty open-and-go, but some of book choices have always seemed to be too mature/"harsh" for my sensitive kids. I was considering it again for next year, but they don't have a program geared toward Ancients (at least in the way I want it taught), so I've eliminated it again. So, it seems like we are likely to stick with Winterpromise again. :tongue_smilie: I haven't had customer service issues, but I only buy the exclusives. I know that some people don't like WP's resale policy, but I usually toss our curriculum in the recycling bin when I'm done with it, so that doesn't concern me. If you typically resell your curriculum, it might.
  8. My daughter has a horse bedding set from Company Kids. They don't have the specific set we have anymore, but I know they have others. We've been very happy with the quality of everything that we have bought from them, so I would vouch for their quality. The Land of Nod has (at least I think they still do) a horse bedding set. Their quality is excellent as well.
  9. We use a different program for science. Actually, we are using a different program for our main science program, but we are using one of the WP science curriculum choices for an additional elective. We are currently doing Equine Science for my equestrienne. ;) We did use Animals and their Worlds a few years ago as well.
  10. we use WP and enjoy it. It is fairly open-and-go. I've looked at other history programs recently, but doubt that we'll switch. I suspect that they will be a lot more work-intensive (for me), and that we won't enjoy it. If it ain't broke... ;)
  11. We don't set a budget, and I don't really keep track of what I spend. I just try to keep it roughly even between the two kids. I know that we spend a lot more than many people, but we only have two children and we can afford it. I think you need to base your budget on what you comfortably can afford. The range of incomes on this board is likely huge, so what one person is comfortable might not work for you. In general, however, I do think that $200 per kid sounds reasonable (to me) if you are comfortable with that amount.
  12. I agree. I really liked the book. I haven't looked into anything past that (and have no plans to), but I really enjoyed the book. I plan to pull it out and read it again soon.
  13. I abhor smoking, but there is NO way that I would've said anything. It just isn't my business.
  14. I don't track what I spend, but I am in the group that considers a physically small gift as a stocking stuffer. If it is small, it might end up as a stocking stuffer even if it isn't "cheap".
  15. I don't track what I spend, but I'm sure that I spend in the ballpark of what your friend spends. However, we only have 2 children, and it is not a hardship at all to spend that amount.
  16. Yep, I plan to use Rainbow for middle school. It is totally worth it to me to have a science program where everything is provided and it is completely laid out for me. If I don't have that, science will. not. get. done. It just won't. My girls are actually learning quite a bit, so NL Science 3 is a success after all.
  17. Hi, Laura! I'm still reading. BTW, I'm in Columbus too! It is so funny that you commented on this. I actually went back to this post recently because I wanted to edit out some of my remarks. It woudn't let me edit however. :glare: I've changed my mind quite a bit about NL Science. I like it a lot better now. It is meatier than I originally thought and it is actually getting done. :hurray: I have never had a science program that we've stuck through for the whole year. :001_huh: I think that we are actually going to finish this one. I may even buy NL Science 4 if it comes out this summer like it is expected to. I really like your idea of DD1 teaching DD2. I think I'll try that next week. Thanks!
  18. We'll likely watch. My girls like watching all of the different breeds and looking for the breed that we own (Keeshonden). Actually, I guess we have two breeds now. We just got a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel three days ago. :001_wub: My mother was an owner-handler and showed dogs for years (and won Best in Show numerous times), so watching the show brings back lots of memories for me.
  19. Like I said previously, this discussion is why I refuse to wish anyone anything. Way too much sensitivity all around. I truly try to limit my conversation with people to "Have a nice day". I wonder if that is offensive somehow too.
  20. No idea how to post pics, but our puppy is an 8.5 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. :001_wub:
  21. I just don't think that they are something that my girls will want. I'm thinking about returning them and getting two iPod Touches and two regular Kindles instead. I was hoping that the Fire would cover both of those options, but I don't think it will.
