  1. But this makes the police and prosecuters look really bad. Not a smart move.
  2. Thanks, my son always shows his work. He loses points if he doesn't. I wanted to make sure he was graded fairly since I am trying to make sure he is using a thorough program.
  3. Mad police don't warrant someone being arrested. I think this is a ridiculous case.
  4. When I was in high school and college we only lost a point or two if the answer was wrong. What was most important was showing our work and know how to work the problem. So is that how most of you grade Algebra and above? We redo any work and master nearly every concept but how do I grade tests to reflect that, especially if they need to be kept in a portfolio for college use?
  5. It is, but the younger two kids apparently have not been found to be unsafe. I think that's why the judges wanted the kids in school. I don't disagree with the Long family having oversight by authorities to make sure the kids are safe. I think that's a no-brainer. I think those judges took their ruling way too far by not applying it to the Longs only. I've also wondered why the father hasn't been convicted of abuse considering the evidence that is against him. I don't get it either.
  6. Why in the world does WND allow the Long's to come off so innocently when they have a long history with the courts and have 2 kids in foster care that claim abuse from the father?
  7. He's 100% supportive but gets concerned when I get stressed out. He'd rather have me all to himself but knows that isn't reasonable. He sometimes thinks I work my kids too hard -- I do not.
  8. I'm exhausted but I had 3 kids up at different times throughout the night. I really do not like DST at all.
  9. My kids all know their grade. All of their activities and friends focus on grade level a lot. My kids get excited about moving up a grade. I'm not sure why exactly. The only thing I do is take my kids out for ice cream when they finish their math book. Its usually the last item of the year to finish and we do not move on unless its complete. They are excited about the treat. I'm happy we completed the book.
  10. How much did this cost you? My dh wants to go to a family resort in Mexico - I've put him off so far. This looks incredible. The kids don't need college do they? We'll just vacation in a new great spot every year. Wow.
  11. We've done this and went to Mt. Rushmore. It was great. Driving with kids is kind of tiring but it was very well worth it. Alaska is a great idea, too - they even have cruises.
  12. I've discovered that ordering things saves me time. If I'm out and about I will shop for items on my list but I've spent too many evenings shopping for an obscure item at store after store. I've decided my time is better spent and if I order it in a week or two it will be delivered to my door. This saves gas and time I can spend with my family or friends.
  13. I know plenty of soccer moms that homeschool. The ones I've experienced are overachievers and are out to win the best homeschool mom award that apparently only they know about. :)
  14. You really want music? I don't like music on blogs or any site. Can you make it optional?
  15. I would've taken the break, too. If a kid is so worked up that they aren't able to work or listen by all means give them time to cool off. I need the same things sometimes. I don't always get it but I do better when I have time to calm down and readjust.
  16. I don't have any hard and fast expectations. It depends on the kid. My dd started writing reports in 4th grade, very well written 4 or 5 page reports. My son can now write a very good report many pages long in 8th grade. Both kids are good writers they just got there at different times and at different speeds.
  17. Oh, I've felt judged, too. I'm not enough of something or other and I've felt it from both sides. You just gotta let it roll down your back. Honestly, its their loss.
  18. Very few homeschoolers in my area have long hair and wear dresses only. We look like everyone else. We love ps teachers here, too. Many of my friends' spouses are teachers and a couple are principals. I'm glad people think good thoughts about homeschoolers. I only ever hear opinions on hsing from a cashier or hair dresser and its always negative. LOL
  19. There are ps/hs programs that require one to be full time and they do exert quite a bit of control. The different programs are set up so differently. They know they are dealing with very independent minded parents and really cater to them.
  20. They are counted for funding but not at 100% and still considered homeschoolers. They don't have to fulfill the same requirements as full time ps students and aren't considered a ps student.
