  1. Thanks for all the advice. I'll pick up a few books/CDs--so much cheaper than lessons--and we'll see how it goes!
  2. Fascinating! So, does Alfred's use this TAB method?
  3. Ds would like to learn guitar, but since he's already taking piano lessons, I thought we could try some sort of self-teaching program. Does anyone have recommendations? I don't know where to start! TIA,
  4. I haven't read it yet, but ds (14) has. He was very inspired by it and I've already seen a significant change in his attitude.
  5. I'm up and running with an Almost WW--the end of a series on the Ottawa Air Show.
  6. Thank you for your suggestions. I've combined a bit of a transcript look (with grades) along with course descriptions and materials used along with a note of recommendation.
  7. I forgot it was Wednesday already! I have a picture up, though!
  8. I taught some co-op classes for grades 7-8 this past year in history, Bible, and logic. One of the students is applying to the Catholic high school for grade 9 and is looking for some sort of transcript for what we did in class. I can find plenty of four-year high school transcript samples online, but has anyone done one for just a couple classes? Or maybe all I need is to write a letter with course descriptions? TIA.
  9. Ds did most of it when he was in grade 5 or 6. He enjoyed it. I think it could easily stand alone as a year-long science program for that age.
  10. We're up and running: horseback riding in Virginia.
  11. For science, I loved Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything. I also just finished Blind Watchers of the Sky by Rocky Kolb--an excellent read!
  12. WW is up and running: ds sleeping with his dog.
  13. I'm back in the game after several weeks off my blog. Life on Windy Ridge
  14. I've been using Traditional Logic with a 7th grader and two 8th graders this year and it's been just great. I started out with the DVD's but we finally quit using them about halfway through the book. They were very boring and just a repetition of what was written in the book--they didn't add to the class. I've heard some people say that the DVD's were more helpful in TL 2, but I haven't tried them. We just started TL 2 and haven't run into any glitches yet--the kids are all in the groove and enjoying logic!
  15. That's so funny! It reminds me of the Veggie Tale video with the sheep that tip over all the time--I never thought it could actually happen!
  16. I have another year to think about that! I want to take a look at whatever textbook is being used currently. But I may end up put something together myself using the internet, Canadian History for Dummies, Canada: My Country videos, and living books.
