  1. A big brother, a pile of Zoobs, and too much free time... I'll be glad to get back to a full schedule of school next week!
  2. BlessedMom... our library has them and that's where we've checked them out. We love the Broadbent series. Great voices!
  3. We're using a different brand that I bought at Michael's with a 40% coupon. They've worked just fine for us so far! We've only done 2 lessons though so we're still newbies at it.
  4. A neat looking tree from our hike this last weekend.
  5. We've loved a number of poetry books mentioned... Animals, Animals - Carle A Child's Garden of Verses - illustrated by Diane Goode Dirt on My Shirt - Foxworthy (a huge favorite) anything by Jack Prelutsky For fairy tales, we've liked books illustrated by K.C. Craft (also under Kinuko Craft at my library) such as Sleeping Beauty, Tom Thumb, Cinderella. Beautiful illustrations. Sleeping Bunny - Keller Bunny and the Beast - Keller (both so well done) Cinderella - McClintock (light hearted) There are so many versions it's hard to pick sometimes!
  6. Absolutely the Signing Times videos. Our library had them. They are perfect for that age!
  7. We've just started it ourselves! We've done 2 lessons and DS is enjoying it so far. He made four pictures today using the watercolor crayons and loved it.
  8. A park day picture... Tiger got his school done by 10 am (it's only our second week so it's still light) and so I hauled them off to a local park with a big area of cement for riding. Wore him out nicely for the day.
  9. I might do both with SSL first and then Minimus. SSL is much easier on student and teacher. You'd get through it fairly quickly, I think. We've done Prima Latina and half of SSL before selling it (due to errors in the pronunciation) and are doing Minimus now. I'm glad we did it in that order as Minimus makes more sense to both of us now and I'm not sure it would if we'd done it first.
  10. Definitely Handwriting Without Tears here for our boys. Instead of the "K" level how about going through the "Get Set for School" book first? We did that with our eldest when he was 5 and it was perfect. He's gone on to do all the books including the cursive one. It's so straightforward. And he colored the pictures in the book. :-) (Double purpose book that way... LOL) I'd skip all the extras if money is tight. The "Get Set for School" book is only $6.35 on the publisher's website. 11. Mine today... still a fairly new blogger here. Wordless Wednesday
  12. Saxon here. I heard so many things about it being boring so tried four other curriculums first before this... and DS is thriving with it! It's straightforward, not time consuming, and clear. At least, so far. :-)
  13. Thanks! They've been on my list but seemed too much to spend right now... but now I'll buy them. :-)
  14. The tomahawk...! DS would absolutely love that one. A good thing to keep in mind for December.
  15. At our convention I saw some neat kits from a company I hadn't heard of before: Corps of Rediscovery. The prices were good and since Tiger has been asking forever for us to make moccasins, I bought the kit. We finally got around to it today and it was awesome. (I posted pictures on my blog.) Well worth the $13 I spent! Just wanted to throw another company out there for hands-on projects! They have things for Native Americans, frontiersmen, Lewis & Clark, pioneers, colonial times. I believe they sell books and even a few unit studies as well. The moccasins were worn all day. :)
  16. For us, it was a time filler. We finished up Prima Latina and loved it but I was wanting to slow us down for the summer. Giving me time to pause for a bit while I decided our next step so to speak. Prima Latina was excellent but on the dry side. I'm leaning towards going with Lively Latin but want to wait 1-2 more years to let him solidify his reading in English. We're doing Minimus now and he's loving it. Color, fun stories, etc. Very low-key. Song School Latin was fine; even the 3 yo was picking up words. If we were doing classical pronuciation I would have stuck with SSL for a fun break. OR, if we were going to switch it would have been fine too. Does that help?
  17. We're also doing 40. Some of our curriculum is designed for 36 weeks so that gives us some wiggle room.
  18. Change it from daughter to son and this is our story exactly. We had our initial exam today (45 minutes) and it was clear that he needed therapy. We start next week. The first therapy visit will be about 2 hours; that's when they'll fine tune what we're going to be focusing on. (No pun intended! Focusing was one of his big issues.) We'll also have homework... 30 minutes a day for 5 or 6 days a week. For now we are scheduled to go every other week for six visits (so about 3 months). We found our doctor through the website for COVD. They have some information there for you to look at. HTH a little!
  19. We're planning on it! Our best weather is also in the mornings and DS seems to do better after he's got some of his wiggles out. If it works well, we'll just continue it through the winter. (Although we'll be snowed in then.)
  20. We eat this straight with a spoon. Both boys are excited when there are leftovers that they get for snack. VERY simple on the flavors; our youngest has gastritis and three of us have a variety of food allergies. Drain and rinse a can of chickpeas. I dump them into the food processor and add 3 tbsp tahini and 2 tbsp lemon juice. Process until smooth. We like to put it in the fridge for 30 minutes first but sometimes that doesn't happen what with homeschooling and all.
  21. Here's a list of books on Paula Archives that is broken down by age/level that may help: Science Book List
  22. We do! I use Straight Talk which is published by NATHHAN and written by Marisa Lapish. It's been wonderful and we've seen tremendous progress in the last 9 months with our 3 yo son. We'll continue with it for at least another year. We may have to "fine tune" with a therapist at some point but when we do we're going to do as others are doing: work with a therapist once a month and then do our homework.
