My son is going down a history major path with a possible journey to master's and then PhD. One of the schools we have been considering is Hillsdale for undergrad. Can I have some feedback on this please? Is the accreditation of this school what it should be so that he could pursue higher learning wherever he would desire? Thank you. Rebecca

I am homeschooling 8 this year, plus my baby is 3 and I teach her some preschool. It definitely changes once high school is in the equation. I spent many years choosing curriculum based on what would work in that year's season. I still do this. Persevere. Through thick and thin. Love. Build a culture of excellence, diligence, and eager learning. I start to "outsource" in tenth grade. (So far). This has been really good for us. At the end of the day, in this house, it is all grace. Grace and love and building relationships each child, each year at a time. You are not alone and you can do it! -Rebecca

Any tips for pneumonia coughing relief in child? Update #1
Rebecca replied to KatieJ's topic in The Chat Board
Mucinex and a "tea" made of hot water and honey. The hot water/ honey really, truly helps with no rebound like I experience from the cough suppressants. Also, standing in a hot steamy shower provides relief. -
urgent advice: fed allergen at an event? WWYD?
Rebecca replied to 38carrots's topic in The Chat Board
Yes, you should absolutely ask for a refund. You are missing part of an event you paid for. Explain calmly and clearly that the food was not safe for your daughter as indicated. You were not able to attend your session. Do not back down to the guilt of a new, unexplained allergen. It is possible for you to track this down if you need to. In the future, always bring food in. Do not trust. Remember celiac and anaphylaxis are two different animals. Never assume one understands the other. (No guilt, just saying) -

Paging Dr. Hive... (posting this from the children's hospital)

I am so sorry. I think you need to have her head checked...and her eyes. Vomiting is a major symptom (of scary serious - so sorry). I hope those things are ruled out immediately. -
Non-Dairy, not overly-sugary ways to make a cup of hot tea taste better
Rebecca replied to Ginevra's topic in The Chat Board
The Republic of Tea makes AMAZING tea. I have loved every kind I have tried. Found at Wegmans or online. I love tea with a bit of integral collagen. I do not usually drink tea sweet the way I drink coffee. However, a yummy tea has been made with some collagen, coconut sugar, and splash of coconut milk. I have also had manuaka honey in tea and that is taking it to the next level. -
Oh, this made me cry. What an incredible tribute. May supernatural peace and sustaining be with you.

Azithromycin is what was prescribed to my kids last year for pneumonia. We had multiple bouts. Prelone is the steroid. I would call back and get clarification on why things were prescribed.

How much was your electricity bill last month?
Rebecca replied to Janie Grace's topic in The Chat Board
I am weary of everything being so expensive. Our water bill is through the roof, too. :( :( -
How much was your electricity bill last month?
Rebecca replied to Janie Grace's topic in The Chat Board
Our bill was over 400!!! This was for electric and gas. The electric was over 350, I believe. I was also in complete shock. Highest bill we have EVER had. :( 2500 sq foot home. -
What can you tell me about the rules in Maryland?
Rebecca replied to Penguin's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
I am the parent of two MD high school students. I do not know much about using the County but it might be a great option for you. We use an oversight. Dual enrollment is easy in my county. Please PM if you would like more info! There is a great Facebook resource but it is specific to my county. I am sure there are others for other counties. Rebecca -
Regentrude, Thank you!! The first post I just read was so.... -off-putting. Ranting in one of the top points about not using archaic language and then a few points down using archaic language themselves. What in the world!? Going to browse around some more... Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for your responses! How do you find a good writer's group? It sounds like neither of you have submitted anything for publication? I am just exploring this. I have also written free verse since I was very young. But I am kindling this gift again and thought I would reach out to the Hive. I appreciate your thoughts. Rebecca

How do I signup for the PSAT? Last year, my son took it at our local Christian school which is our homeschool umbrella. However, they are stating they do not have enough room for the homeschoolers this year. What do I do? I have been searching around the CollegeBoard with no success. Thank you so much! Rebecca

Is there such thing as a yummy gluten free, dairy free Lasagna?
Rebecca replied to Ginevra's topic in The Chat Board
We use Daiya for cheese substitutes on everything. I just checked and it is gluten free. My family loves it. I have had Tofutti ricotta before and it was good. We try to avoid a lot of soy I don't have much experience. We make homemade pizza with Daiya every week. -
I am so glad!! Thank you for the quick update!

Is this camp worth the money? It is so expensive, even for a commuter. Anyone with experience? Thanks.

Soror, That is exactly exactly what I felt and thought. I also have slightly elevated cholesterol. This does run in my family but it is also a component of hypothyroid. :( The truth is I felt bad at 2.5 TSH and could not lose weight for anything but no medical person would consider it. And I just keep going on... I had a very bad experience with an endocrinologist 10 years ago that gave me a bad taste. Anyway, we have moved twice (600 miles) since that first thyroiditis and I am new to this Dr. Trying to find a good primary care. :( I haven't had consistent primary care in these last ten years I am thinking about making an appointment with my OBGYN. I have to see if I need a referral for an endocrinologist. I know the dr I saw yesterday wouldn't give me one. Ugh. Thank you all very much.

The Dr said he expected the T4 to be normal and gave me a lab script to have it tested in 6 months.
