  1. I am going to be mentioning CGE to a friend today who's son will be entering 8th grade next year. He really hasn't had a lot of grammar exposure. Where would you recommend he start, in the grade 4 book?
  2. If you like using the TT cd-roms then you could use the Saxon Teacher cd-roms. They teach the entire lesson and go over each and every problem in the lessons and on the tests step-by-step.
  3. Thank you Hunter!! That really helps knowing that we can start with grade 4. I am going to try and look for this at the convention next week. I will look at the writing portion and see what we may need to cover before beginning. We have a whole year, so I think we'll have time. Thanks again.
  4. Cut and pasted to new thread. :001_smile: Hopefully I got it all.
  5. Thought I'd move my question from the other thread here so others could see it as well. So, could a student start in the grade 4 book or would there be too much missed to do so?
  6. Thanks Lori!! I was going to cut and paste and start a new one, but it wasn't by thread so I didn't want to step on any toes. :001_smile:
  7. So, could a student start in the grade 4 book or would there be too much missed to do so? ETA: posted this question in the new thread linked below. Could we get this started in a new thread? We might get more traffic from others that have used CGE too if the thread title said CGE and not LOE. :001_smile:
  8. Thank you so much! I just ordered this. :001_smile:
  9. Thanks. :) I am headed to our convention in less than 2 weeks. :D The first booth I am hitting is LOE. I still had some things I wanted to pick up to use with ds, but wasn't sure yet what I wanted to use with dd.
  10. Linda has finished writing Volume 4, but there is still a lot to be done. There is no release date yet. However, she specifically stated on the MOH 3 yahoo group that volume 4 would not be ready for the fall of 2013.
  11. Jean, what all did you buy to use with your 15 yo besides the teacher's manual? I was thinking about going through LOE quickly with dd as her spelling is not where I would like it to be.
  12. There is also a forum for LOE. It's a great place for questions as well and Denise even pops in and answers them herself.
  13. I would love to keep everything. Not for me, but to have a library for others to look through. If someone had a question about a certain curriculum, I would love to just hand it over and say "here, look at it for a while and see if it will fit your needs. Go ahead and borrow it for a time." I envision this great library full of books where anyone could come over and just browse. Yes, that would be my dream room. :D However, our tiny house does not have enough room. :tongue_smilie:
  14. I didn't sell any of my "treasures" to purchase LOE either. I sold what we were done with and what did not work for us. I don't just rely on online samples, I have to have something in my hands to see how it will work for us. So I usually buy and sell a lot. :D
  15. Was the lecture recorded and are they selling the cds or mp3s?
  16. Yes, I sold books like crazy to get the money to purchase it.
  17. I am working on teaching DS cursive this summer as that is the workbook I chose. He has been asking to learn cursive for a while now so this worked out prefect. We will also be using the game book to keep what he already knows fresh.
  18. I was trying to do the same thing, but then I watched her 45 minute video. After that I ordered Uncovering the Logic of English. I read through chapter 14 the first night. I downloaded all the samples and was excited about what I saw. After a few weeks, I decided to take the plunge.
  19. I would LOVE to sit in on one of her lectures. I do already own the game book, teachers manual and student workbook, plus "Uncovering the Logic of English." I love the game book and I know my son will too. I will be picking up a couple of other things when I go to the convention. I can't wait to get started with DS, but I am going to patiently wait until Fall. It's great to hear about additional youtube videos coming soon.
  20. Could you expand on this please? Was this in a lecture she gave or in talking to her at her booth? :bigear::bigear::bigear: I so wanted to meet and speak with her but she will be in CA when our convention meets here in FL. :(
  21. Hmmm....maybe I am thinking of another program I was looking into? Just for curiosity now I will have to see if I can find the reviews. :tongue_smilie: It's great to hear that it is a stand alone curriculum! I am hoping that our R&S vendor at the convention will have some available to look at. I'm not sure that I remember anything but R&S there though. Maybe Rainbow Resource will.
  22. Just a quick question about CGE. Is it a comprehensive program that stands on its own? I have heard a few reviews that it was only meant to supplement another grammar program. We will be taking the relaxed approach still next year utilizing the grammar that is in LOE and including grammar in our writing too. However, I will be looking for grammar when we finish LOE. I had thought I would use JAG with ds, but I really don't think it will be a good fit for him. ETA: Sorry Lori!!! I just realized I was hijacking your thread. :leaving:
  23. Jump ship! We were also on book 5 and decided to abandon ship. It was just getting too redundant. We will be starting LOE in the fall. Until then, he is just going to do a lot of reading.
