  1. I am waiting on WWS 2, EIW 10th and 11th grade. All writing
  2. Congratulations! I love those kinds of finds!
  3. My daughter has been interning in the youth department of our church all year. Right now it's only been 3 hours a week. She has done everything from making copies, filing, entering student information into their computer system, help set up and organize for special events, keeping the prize store stocked (including placing the inventory orders) and making the schedule for who works the prize store during services, getting slides ready on the computer for service, preparing documents for special events, making phone calls for pricing information for things needed for special events (including local tour bus companies for a summer event), and... I know I could list a lot more if she were sitting beside me right now. :tongue_smilie: This summer she will be interning between 15-20 hours each week. (ETA: She does not get paid.) So my questions is, would you list this as credit on a transcript or would you just include it in activities? If listing for credit, what would you call it? FWIW - she is wanting a career in youth ministry. Other activities that she will have listed on her transcript would be: choir, youth missions team, youth drama team, and community service at local soup kitchen.
  4. This is a quote from Art Reed that I had saved from another thread once upon a time. :) "Because the Math 87 and algebra 1/2 books contain basically the same material, if she completes all the lessons and tests in Math 87 and receives 80's or better on her last five Math 87 tests, she has indicated that she has made up the differences and is ready for algebra. She can skip algebra 1/2 and go straight to algebra 1." And this is one I saved from yet another thread that came from the Saxon Site. "If your child finishes Math 8/7 with at least 80% mastery, skip ahead to Algebra 1." If you find the need to use 1/2, you could always give him the tests until he scores an 80-85% or below. Then slow down and work on the material from there. HTH :001_smile:
  5. Since you've mentioned liking CLE reading for your older, I thought I would mention something I just saw on their website. I like the CLE readers for 2 & 3 but never cared for all of the extra "stuff" in the light units. Well they have made worksheets for levels 2 and 3 that look like they cover vocabulary and comprehension. You can see samples of level 3, they don't have 2 up yet. They are very affordable.
  6. Yes, agreeing with others. Have her check with her family and neighbors. Look by all doors and in the garage and porches if she has any. I have had this happen to me twice and both times the package was there, but someone else had brought it in and never mentioned it.
  7. I did not even go by the lesson plans in the front of the book. I went through and looked at the lessons and broke them into small chunks. DS can not spend a lot of time on one subject, he just won't stay focused. This is always my biggest reason for tweaking everything we do. So honestly, you could spend only as much time as you want to each day. If each lesson takes you 2 weeks to complete, that's ok. I am not trying to talk you into LOE. I just wanted you to know that you have options and you could make it your own. :001_smile:
  8. Yes, only 2 sets of game cards are necessary. Also agreeing with Lori, it would be SO easy to make your own phonogram cards and spelling cards as everything is in the book. The grammar cards and advanced cards are not necessary. We went with the cursive workbook because my ds was ready and wanted to learn cursive. Also, we will probably take 2 years to finish the entire curriculum. So the cost that I spent this year actually covered 2 years. Not so bad when you think of it that way.
  9. The workbook was one of the main draws for me with LOE. I was creating our own to use with AAS. It was just too time consuming. I plan on looking at the spelling notebook at the convention. I am still not sold on that yet.
  10. Keep in mind that we haven't used LOE yet either, but I do have it. I think that you could use just the TE if all you wanted was the phonograms/spelling. There are some spots in the TE that say "Read the words in your workbook, then underline____." But those same words are in the TE. So you could just write them on a white board and then have your dc read and underline there. There is also a section in the lessons that say "write each new phonogram five times while saying the sounds aloud." The new phonograms are listed in the first part of the lesson. Again this could be done on a whiteboard or piece of paper. If you are only using LOE for spelling and phonograms, I think you could make do with just the TE. Again, we have not actually used the program yet, this is just me looking at the TE and thinking it could be doable. I would take a look at the online samples again, print them out if need be. Then sit down with them as if you were going to teach just from that. Does it make sense and seem doable? Ok Lori, you have LOE too, so please weigh in here. Feel free to tell me I am way off base. :D With LOE, CGE, LFB, and everything else mentioned this week, my brain feels a bit fried. I think it's time to step away from the computer and curriculum for at least 24 hours. ETA: Also keep in mind that I hardly ever use anything the way it was originally intended. :tongue_smilie:
  11. This is where we are at too. In fact, I own the CLE readers for levels 1, 2 and 3 already. I have the Teacher's guides for 1 and 2 and have just been pulling some of the comprehension questions out of those. I really do not like the LUs at this stage. So my struggle is whether or not we will just continue on this path or try Landmark. There is just something about Landmark that calls to me.
  12. :iagree: This confuses me a bit. Shouldn't they know a little more about the curriculum they sell? Or at least connect you with someone who does? I could understand if they were a large homeschool store that sold multiple curriculum from multiple publishers, but this is their own curriculum. I will be hitting their booth at the convention next week, curious to see what I find.
  13. The "To the Teacher" sample page on the R&S site says that the first 29 lessons are a complete review of book 1. So if you don't need that, you could skip those.
  14. Just found this. You can print pdf copies of all of them for free from the Project Gutenberg site. ETA: Nice and easy. Just downloaded all of them in under 3 minutes. :D
  15. Now this looks intriguing. Landmark will be at the convention next week as well. :D Me thinks my list of things to look at has just grown considerably over the last few days. All kidding aside, I do like the looks of the samples. I am anxious to see it in person.
  16. I love CLE math, but CLE LA bombed here. (we only tried lower levels as well) The only part that worries me a bit about CGE is the crowded pages. Sometimes that is visually distracting for ds. However I am going to take a look at them at the convention. They are definitely cheap enough that if it doesn't work, no big deal.
  17. Hmmmm, looking at the content of grade 3, there is some really good stuff there. Would it be difficult to skip over the respelling exercises in this level and not wind up confused?
  18. Hi Rhonda. Thank you for this also! I just joined the group and was able to access the file just fine.
  19. Has anyone seen any lesson summaries for Zoology 1? Do they even exist or would that be copyright infringement? I told a friend I would help her teach a co-op class in the fall using the Zoo 1 book. Classes are only 45 minutes long, once a week, so we were going to summarize each lesson instead of read it out loud to speed things up a bit. I can read through the book this summer and summarize each chapter myself, but if someone else had already done it, why create the wheel.
