  3. Thank you Joanne :)

  4. I just wanted to thank you for your reasoned post in the Going to Jail for Praying thread.

  5. Wishing you a good heath day :)

  6. Thank you for the kind words today. They helped :001_smile:

  7. For what it's worth, I thought your son was done wrong by the baseball coach. Totally different situation.

  8. Oh, that's wonderful!

Oh, I'm so happy to hear it! This is wonderful news.

Which level did you end up choosing? MEP is really fun, huh? I'm really glad your son likes MEP. My little boy does too. I do love the way it challenges them to "think" and not just be automatons working algorithms.

Thank you for letting me know. It does lift my spirits.

    Bill

  9. I just wanted to wish you a good day :001_smile:

  10. No credit (to me) is necessary, The Oxford English dictionary on the other hand...

  11. Here is "myth" from the OED

    1. a. A traditional story, typically involving supernatural beings or forces, which embodies and provides an explanation, aetiology, or justification for something such as the early history of a society, a religious belief or ritual, or a natural phenomenon.

Myth doesn't mean "falsehood" nor does it mean legend. It doesn't mean the story is "true" either. It just refers to sacred stories that attempt to explain man's origins, and the like.

"Genesis" is mythological. Although I got beaten around the head when I once referred to the Adam and Eve story a "myth" by people who don't know any better (on a "classical education" forum :tongue_smilie:). *Sigh*

I was never a complainer about SOTW. One, I haven't read it. Two, criticizing our hostess on her forum is something I'd be slow to do. I once praised the change made in the recent edition that more clearly indicated stories that were taken from historical sources and those from mythic sources.

  12. Oh yea. And you are walking in a mine-field. Good luck with that ;-)

  13. My point was (lacking context a parent with the materials might have) is that I didn't know what earlier story you were referring to. *I* didn't know you were referring to two versions of Gilgamesh.

And to nit-pick there aren't two versions in "history" because SWB and the book of myths each did "re-tellings". KWIM?

  14. I just looked at the new samples. I was surprised when you mentioned dropping the images from Usborne (because they were striking) but now I actually think it's much cleaner.

One note: I'm kind of a stickler for the way the term "myth" is used and it looks like your veering close to the "untrue story" sense of the meaning. Which isn't so good IMO.

What is the pervious reading that is being contrasted with Gilgamesh? in the instructions for SOTW: 53-58, The Story of Gilgamesh, that make Gilgamesh appear "untrue" and the other authentic?

You don't get into (I suppose) how many bible stories were lifted from Gilgamesh, do you?

It's really coming along nicely Carmen, thanks for sharing!

  15. Did you send me a PM today? I was clearing my box with "brain-fog" and deleted todays incoming. D'oh.

  16. Thanks for letting me know.

  17. Did you PM me? I tried to clear my box so I could answer and I'm afraid I deleted it accidently. D'oh!

Could you re-send? One of those days.

  18. Thank you for your courageous posts!

  19. In a manner of speaking, yes!

  20. You're getting colder

  21. Sorry, that is incorrect.
