I was 13/14 when I started and soon after learned to use the tampons. Much better choice for gym time.

That is where I got my first bread recipe, the Hillbillyhousewife site. I don't have a favorite recipe but like making the braided bread for potlucks.

My PC won't let me onto the link to give it a try. -
I am in tears right now
Bear23 replied to wy_kid_wrangler04's topic in The Learning Challenges Board
:grouphug: It is difficult when IRL people just don't understand why some children don't fit the mold like others. I ended up putting my son in school and he is doing well and gets lots of extra help that I couldn't give him because I had others at home. He will continue this year and next but will be home educated again once stateside. PS could help even just for awhile. -
You could cut if you did lots of Frozen veggies/fruits? Wait until meat goes on the 25-50 percent off. I would love to cut our bill because ours is about the same and we are family of 5. Since I am overseas 90% of the food comes frozen from the states so we will get out the local currency to buy fresh fruit and veggies. Good luck on cutting your food bill. Would going to a Costco or Sams help? Get the bulked meats and get home, seperate the meat and place in a freezer?

how does this look for 7th?
Bear23 replied to ktgrok's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
It looks fairly close to mine. I am also using Sonlight after we finish up SOTW. I am using Rod and Staff English which she dislikes but it works. Where did you find the vocab for online? -
Need ideas for a teacher appreciation gift
Bear23 replied to meggie's topic in General Education Discussion Board
google teache appreciation week or go to Pinterest and you get lots of ideas. I made a special board for all our teachers with the kids saying thank you on little notes. We are bringing flowers for each teacher, making homemade cards for the teachers, bringing in a little homemade goodie. I saw some cute ideas on Pinterest. I like the jar with pencils around it or the Cup with coffe gift card was a cute idea. My oldest made homemade cards one for each of her seven teachers. my younger ones only have three each. Plus we are giving them a pot with flower seeds with a little saying about blooms and growth and compared with them teaching the children. I forgot the saying it is somewheres in a Doc. -
I used a large display board for our SOTW timeline last year and the year before. I kept it behind out hutch when not in use. Next year I am going to use the Timeline book from Sonlight. We are going from SOTW to Sonlight this fall.

Going out in public in pajamas -?
Bear23 replied to Bang!Zoom!'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
If we had a PJ day here at the school it would be an excuse to get some new fun jammies and robe. You couldn't pay me to wear my robe out in public. It's about seven years old and quite comfy. :) -
I am in the same boat. Hubby wants me to get a job to pay for my hobbies and extras. I haven't worked since 2003 and it was as a nurse but now I am going towards teaching at a preschool level. If I have to go back to work than it ought to be something fun. I put down my volunteering with scouts(leader), and home education instead of homeschooling. I plan to work out of home so I don't have to worry too much about dress code but I do like wearing khacki bottoms with nice casual tops.

Doing 2 math programs at the same time??
Bear23 replied to tiffanieh's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My daughter has two math programs. She is using Math U See and ACE math. She is following the sequence of MUS but is a grade behind with ACE. She wants to take this college prep class at the school but is struggling with the sprial math program. We will be doing double the math from now until fall and then see if she can participate in the class. She has the GPA but she isn't strong in Math like she should be. We will be working on both daily. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. -
DD7, DS8 and DD12 watched the movie. My DS enjoyed the movie the most.

I would have to drive the hour as well because I am not paying tolls to get there which can be up to $20 one way. Plus I have two in the school across from my house. There be no one to watch them while I took her. Plus she's only been in school for 1/3 of the second and all of the 3rd. She is still trying to figure out her math and how some other stuff is done because it's so different than how we have done stuff.

She wanted to give public school a try so I gave in and now I regret it but won't tell DH because he was so happy to see her in school. We are talking tonight because this community is all about use the schools they are good. I feel bad for a few of the younger kids who do this same commute because their teacher parents want them near them while at work and not a hour away.

DS7 scratched up neighbor's brand new car
Bear23 replied to gamedesignmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
we are having simliar work done on our van back home and the price is around that price. Sadly it's not cheap. -
After six years of teaching we put our three children in school and they are all excelling with high marks and one is on the Honor Roll. The Honor Roll child is paying a price of now having to live a 15 hour day. DD12 is up at 0500 to be on the bus @ 0610 and school starts @ 0730. Her school is out at 1410 and she gets home at 1530 or 1545. If bad weather happens it has taken until 1600-1630 to get home. We have been at this school for one semester but after having Spring Break she wants to be home now and not wait 8 more weeks. I have to agree with her. She is so tired all the time. She has lost her fun ways and gets snippy with her siblings and us. The school is decent but not sure it's worth the price to my daughter's well being. I think a hour to and from is a bit far for a middle schooler.

Thanks for the replies. I will look into Rod and Staff Math and Teaching Textbooks.

Got it, thanks for the info -
my cheap husband. Last Christmas I bought my 7 and 8 year olds 8GB iTouches. Big mistake. So now I am going to upgrade their iTouches and send their old ones to my parents along with a a $50 each itunes gift card. They just want it for music and Facetime/Skype. They will do fine with a low GB iTouch but not my family. I read the replies awhile back and suggested my hubby we go higher and he was like nah, they are young they don't need that much. So WRONG. I have a hour commute one way almost daily and we go on trips that last a few hours so having games and afew either A)purchased shows or B) rented movies are a life saver for me.

Naval Academy STEM Summer Camp
Bear23 replied to Sebastian (a lady)'s topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
Is this in the same area for camp every year? They are doing some STEM related stuff at all the schools but didn't know there was a camp for it. It may be an option for when we return to east coast next year. My DD loves science stuff. -
While I personally like MUS and have seen the progress with my children in learning with this curriclum it has made my daughter's school math very hard. Hubby wants me to use a different math when we return to homeschooling next school year. I really liked the video because I relearned too. I good refresher for me when trying to remember what I did way back then. I need something that is more sprial and closer to national standards than mastery. Which math program would you recommend that I look more into? My DD will be in 7th grade but in PS terms she is 'behind' in math. We have to do extra at home due to MUS being so different from the school's scope and sequence. I do not feel she is behind, she was just taught differently and we took FOREVER with Division. Poor girl is just having a hard time with fractions, decimals and algebra thrown at her all at once yet she has pulled another semester of being on the Honor Roll. :)
