Johanna, question about the BJU math 3rd edition.
Johanna replied to HappyGrace's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
ok, i am going to refer you to a link which is where i discovered that BJU 3rd would be available here I copied and pasted one of the lady's answers re: 3rd (she had gotten an email from BJU) the whole thread is found at this link:http://www.homeschoolreviews.com/forums/1/thread.aspx?id=31423 (its on the 2nd page) Posted this on a separate thread as well. From BJUP: Thank you for contacting us. We do anticipate having the Grade 3 Math 3rd edition available by July, 2008. In regards to your questions concerning the Grade 4 Math, the Math 4 Student Text noted as "copyright update" is not a revision; errata items have been corrected and some pictures have been updated. We do not have projected information as to when a new edition of Grade 4 Math will be published. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance. For your convenience, you may call us toll-free at 1-800-845-5731. Sincerely, BJU Press bjupinfo@bjupress.com http://www.bjupress.com dab Now, as far as the differences. There is included review on the back side of the worksheet., But they also include 3rd editions review books as well...which i really like because they have drilling on one side. Also, the 2nd grade is new and available now. I would call BJU to find how to navigate it on their website. I dont know why they make it so difficult:rolleyes: **I hope this helped some*** BJU can be very vague when it comes to knowing what is going on in their own company. -

Ok, i had posted a question a few days ago about perhaps going tanning before embarking on a cruise and a few of you mentioned "mystic tan" as an alternative. So, i am wondering if it will look fake or streaky? Will people look at me and know that it is a "spray on"? I dont want to look orange...but i need some color so I am hoping that Mystic looks natural. Also, if i get it the day before i leave will it last the whole week? thanks for your help!

MUS Beta or R&S 2nd for ds math? Help me decide.
Johanna replied to Johanna's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
great review! -
Wow, ladies....you have been so helpful. I didnt even think about the mystic tan. How long will it last?? Yeah, the whole skin cancer thing scares me. But, I know that it would be nice to not be a white ghost in the carribean:( So, if i got this mystic tan, will it be streaky?? Will it look natural?? Can you explain how it is put on....is it like a shower mist? Does it get on your clothes? face? thanks

MUS Beta or R&S 2nd for ds math? Help me decide.
Johanna replied to Johanna's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
That is good to know about R&S....I guess I really thought that it was all rote memorization.....yet very effective...but rote. I guess i need to try Alpha out at the end of this year to see if he gets it. But, i am still wondering if I will need to supplement if i go the MUS route? -
MUS Beta or R&S 2nd for ds math? Help me decide.
Johanna replied to Johanna's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
This is a good point, for some reason I think that R&S would seem more like drudery (though i know that it really gets facts mastered) but my ds is so much into manips (hands on) and he loves computer stuff (so i think he may like watching the dvds on the laptop) I guess the only thing holding me back is the weird (non traditional) scope and sequence. KWIM?? -
OK, so this year my ds6 is using Mcruffy for first grade math. it is ok, i like that it is a nice gentle "non cluttered" intro to math for ds. However, I feel that ds is very reliant on the number line for adding and subtracting instead of conceptualizing. Should I go the R&S route which has them really mastering facts with memorization....or should i go the MUS route which is more about conceptualizing and mental grasping. He does great with base 10 blocks, but has no Mental grasp (still needs hands on for anything above +3 or -3. SHould he have that or will it eventually come??? I am really torn about which route to take? Both are good programs, but i want to build a solid foundation. If you have used either of these can you give me you poss. and neg experiences. Also, does he have to have his facts mastered to do Beta?....I guess we could work on that over the summer.

You may be able to find more info on the http://www.homeschoolreviews.com forums...I believe that there are a few moms who have been using Mcruffy for a while over there. In case you dont get your question answered here.

I loved your blog BTW! Do you feel that CLE teached "conceptually" aka Bob Jones/MUS or would you say it is rote (ie: Rod and staff) thanks!
-
For my ds in 2nd next year, we are going to do AAS *all about spelling*. I feel that this is a great program for cementing phonics yet teaching spelling! Without worksheets and tons of writing! I think it looks painless and effective!

THis is perfect for us, since we see a new bird every day at our feeder. It would be great to start recording it! I appreciate it you sharing!:)

Do you think girls like them better than boys?? In general? Or not? Just curious.

maybe All about spelling? I think it is wonderful for teaching phonics and spelling in a gentle way as a follow up!
