  1. For example, my Advanced Directive specifically states DH cannot request lifesaving measures unless recovery is expected. In our scenario, I have ALS. No recovery expected and I didn't want him placing a trach against my wishes but if I were to get Covid and need a *temporary* vent, then I wanted that.
  2. Teaching Textbooks is extremely popular among my IRL friends. They were hiring for development of an English/LA curriculum a couple years ago. They are amusing. I still use them for 3rd & 4th grade. Nicole the Math Lady has won my undying devotion forever.
  3. We bought a leather one from Costco last year. It does not have a lounge but it did have three electric reclining sections.
  4. We noticed that too. Our yard is also now a rabbit free zone. She fixed that by week 2. It should have been a clue…
  5. I have a million children and two acres… they’re all tired, lol. She’s definitely high energy but we really don’t have any comparison. The last pup we had was a Belgian shepherd and she was supposed to be a police dog, but as a pup she seemed not intense enough. Her energy temperament was too much for us. She went on to do competitive Schutzhund. i will say this - she gets bored easily. She wants constant interaction. She nibbles your hands for rubs and affection. She nibbles under our chins a lot. She craves interaction and touch unlike any dog we’ve ever had, but other than a terrier for 12-13 years, we’ve mostly had GSD. She is fearless. Everyone is a potential friend. She has zero wariness.
  6. I can’t tell her. I’m afraid she’ll lose her humility. Also what if she feels the need to fulfill some kind of stereotype? Nah, I want her to be free to express her dog-ness without shame or fear of the naysayers who think she shouldn’t submit to excessive tummy rubs.
  7. Me too! Embark doesn’t let dogs with gray wolf participate in relative finder! So just around Christmas we saw her listed on an Iowa German Shepherd page. A fella from the Minnesota border saw her wandering the area since October. She was starting to look thin so he took her home and had her checked for a chip. They posted her on various list and found pages. No luck finding the owner but she is spayed. There is wolf population in Minnesota so maybe an accidental breeding a couple generations ago?
  8. YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO BELEIVE THE RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Still no results Day 19. First world problems, first world problems, I will not moan and groan about my first world problems....... I figure she is *at least* 50% goofball. "Her" girl had mock trial practice last night so the traitor happily sprawled across La instead. Yes, we sent the picture to the betrayed. Ya'all should know that while Saga is quite the beauty, she is a shameless hussy when it comes to belly rubs.
  10. I have to say something doesn't add up. It's said Finland has the highest rate of happiness. They've destigmatized mental illness. Suicide prevention is happening. 1+1+1=3 If the answer to lower suicide is increased happiness, low mental health stigma, covered healthcare, and active suicide prevention they would HAVE lower suicide rates. It doesn't track. Or we don't yet adequately understand suicide. I think no one does mental illness well because we don't really understand the mechanisms or spectrum of mental illness. 😞
  11. I was with you on all of this, but I will say DD (now 27, graduated 5 years ago) did have a professor who took attendance for a lecture! I was floored. They used a little device clicker like Turning Point. There are several apps now.
  12. I'm shocked that you're shocked. Granted, DH and I attended state universities but skipping class for NO reason (or a hangover) was far from unusual. To have a good reason and miss? I'd be floored if sibs didn't show for a wedding or grandma's hospital stay (given that it is mom's mom & kiddo is college age, an illness would be serious.) Now, I'll say that my kids all went to school in state. But we've had five graduate now and I think we're far from controlling? We have kids for holidays when it works for them or their spouses, don't insist they coordinate for a single date, etc. But miss a wedding? I assume it's on a weekend. Miss Th/Fri class to leave Weds. evening, be back Sunday night or Monday at the latest. Miss 1-2 classes for a wedding? Absolutely. The frivolous reasons I'd bet are likely more justification for skipping rather than parental expectation?
  13. Just sending a hug tonight and thinking of your family. This is so hard... You are a very loving daughter to try to sort this out and just know that you can do everything "right" and it still be hard and that doing the best you reasonably can is a kindness.
  14. IMO, white is on the way out. Folks can say, "It's a classic," but the same was said of the red toned oak. Nothing stays with color trends. However, I wanted a dark color (urbane bronze) and I used a soft white (white dove) on the uppers which brightened the kitchen. Use Pinterest to see/visualize what you like - try different searches like - tan or beige tile with white cabinets, two tone kitchen with cream backsplash, etc. I will tell you that if you look back at my posts a couple years ago, I started to darken mine with a tinted poly (Polyshades.) It wasn't even due to several reasons. I ended up doing an insane amount of research and work. I wanted as close to a pro finish as possible. Are you on FB? There is an amazing group that I gleaned much wisdom from. I sanded, primed, scuffed, primed, scuffed, painted, scuffed, painted, but you cannot see ANY grain bleed from my oak cabinets. Knowing how much work it is now, I miss my oak cabinets. They were in beautiful condition though. I could have cleaned thoroughly, put on a top coat of wipe on poly, switched out the handles and been very pleased. *But* I genuinely love wood. Shrug. I do get compliments though. The two tone was still very new when I did it and my mom thought it was odd.
  15. They would not help with BM. I hear a lot of good about them on the ALS forums just because despite us supposedly having unaffected bladders, many of us still experienced urinary urgency and/or incontinence.
  16. There’s another option called Pure Wick. It minimizes that, “I’m wearing a freaking diaper and I hate this,” feeling. Dignity is a hard thing to lose and it goes piece by piece. Sometimes I think it would be easier in one fell swoop. I’m sure your mom understands even if she hates it. Sigh. It just sucks.
  17. We bought my husband a twin xl, took a side of my hospital bed and shoved them together. Is this an option?
  18. @Rebel I’d have thought he was some kind of hound! Were you shocked?
  19. She’s feisty this morning, loves the snow. i think she needs her own pet. DH doesn’t yet agree, but I think she needs something poodle-y. 😏
  20. I'd have guessed Dane x Husky! And nothing yet. I only check 5-6 times/day.
  21. So going back to this, I noticed the 11 year gap and wondered if you got married a second time? Because as a 2 something, I would have thought nothing weird when doc asked both of your blood type and if he was negative, then it comes off as a routine question. It's only a big deal when mom is - and there is an unknown rh factor for dad. I'm - and DH is + so it's always been an issue. Oldest is 27.
  22. Does Medicaid/Medicare cover any costs? I have private insurance so we are just now living and I know my insurance covers in home care but I don’t know about in home care for Medicare or others.
