  1. I've done that! I prefer actually boiling them, though I can't pinpoint specific things I didn't like about the baked ones... Works well if you need to do a large volume of eggs. I'd do mine when I was already using the oven to save time and energy.
  2. Geography? Local civics? To you have a specific family heritage that you could do a unit study on?
  3. I like the one from New Bee Homeschooler. Google it to find it... I couldn't get a decent link for you on my iPod.
  4. Grass fed beef, truely free range chicken and eggs, organic and/or local produce. And lots of crazy expensive spices and ingredients - I love to experiment!
  5. How scary! Prayers for his recovery and prolonged well being.
  6. For the shower, I'd get something from the registry. Make seething special for the wedding gift.
  7. DS will be doing K4 starting in the late summer/fall. I'm gonna take it slow and add things in when it seems appropriate, but these are what I imagine us doing once we get rolling: - OPGTTR - Singapore Essentials K - Miquon - Zaner Bloser handwriting workbooks - lots of interest-led library books
  8. Sometimes we'll get a simple bilingual book from the library about opposites or colors, that sort of thing. Then we just read it over and over and I'll ask DS questions as we go about our day. Like, "What color crayon is that? How do you say that in Spanish?"
  9. I'm going to start my DS3 on SM Essentials and maybe some Miquon with C-Rods in the next couple months. And it sounds like your DS is farther along. No harm in trying something! If he doesn't take to it, you can always put it away for later.
  10. You think B16 might like some red velvet cupcakes? ;)
  11. Some math topics outside of calc: Statistics and Probability Sets and Logic Physics (algebra based) Physics (calc based) Of course I took all those in college. Like some previous posters said, look into the open courseware. And, likely, there will be even MORE higher learning options when your DD reaches high school age. That's still 7 years away.
  12. Thanks for the Catholic Icing recs! I went ahead and ordered it! I plan on using it until we can do the 1st grade of Faith and Life. Exciting!
  13. Anyone use Catholic Icing's Preschool curriculum for prek or just for family use? I'm thinking about ordering it, but I'd like some more specific feedback. Thanks!
  14. Nope. And probably never will. Not really by choice, but I only see us buying because of need and nothing matched when we moved in so...
  15. Was she that small before she started bfeeding? When I'm bfeeding my babies, I am MUCH smaller than I would be otherwise, like 15 lbs smaller. I don't watch what I eat AT ALL, and the lbs were still coming off and leveled out at around 6 months postpartum. Now, at 16 months pp, I am inching my way back up to my pre-pregnancy weight and trying not to eat third helpings. :) And when I'm not prego or bfeeding, my BMI is 21ish.
  16. Here's an article with some age expectancy charts. http://www.playingwithwords365.com/2011/09/speech-articulation-development-whats-normal-what-isnt/
  17. I second the elimination diet. When all is said and done, it's much more painful to randomly cut stuff out than to start from scratch with confidence. It sucks for a while, but then it gets better. Especially when you start to FEEL better. I hope your able to figure our what's wrong!
  18. We're at 20%, which includes insurance and taxes. Any more wouldn't be worth it at the moment.
  19. I had a similar experience when DS was 18mo. I plan on doing the same sort of thing with DD when she's that age. To OP, I personally feel that 8 mo is too young to night wean. There are so many developmental changes at that age. I would try to wait until 12 mo. I did 18 with my son, and I probably could have done it sooner (I just feel so bad! Lol).
  20. I'm looking for CD recommendations for songs about skip counting, months of the year, or anything that needs to be memorized. Suggestions? TIA!
  21. Thank you for this! I do think that DS is ready for more specific instruction that just normal conversation, but I've also realized that the values you've outlined are MUCH more important at this stage. Not only are they important for family life and character in general, but emphasizing those values now will only help a long term homeschool succeed. Off to read your post!
  22. Is there a document somewhere that has a time frame for when kids are supposed to be able to pronounce different letters?
  23. I don't know. You tell me! ;) If it works, it works. I guess that's my question.
  24. Do you have the teachers guide or just the workbook? The cost for the complete curriculum kinda gets to me, but I love the font (especially compared to HWT).
