  1. <<Babies can go a startlingly long time without a bath and be none the worse for it.>> I learned this with our latest, number seven. He went 8 or 9 weeks before he had his first bath, lol.
  2. Glad to hear this, Natalie! I have no answers for you for any of your questions, just wanted to say I'm doing some happy-dance moves on your behalf -- in the spirit, that is because my little blob is asleep on my lap. Can you give fish oil to a 3-month old? ;)
  3. I'm so sorry, Heather! The whole housing thing sort of stinks right now, eh? Here's hugs going out your way!
  4. I roll, baby. Look what you got accomplished! Way to go! It's been a *good* morning in the Doran household.
  5. We, too, are trying to sell our house and would appreciate prayer! Sorry I didn't post in the original post. Our situation is such that we have the house we'd like to purchase picked out -- we need an offer on our place to then go offer on their place (to see if they will come down as low as we need them to). Thanks!
  6. Some of the add-ins we do in our home: Ground up seeds (flax, sesame) Melted coconut oil Nutritional yeast flakes We make our smoothies with plain yogurt, milk or coconut milk, and lots of fruit.
  7. I would start with the mindset "We will start homeschooling and if *that* doesn't work out, then we could always consider public -- or private -- school" instead of the other way around (putting him in ps and then pulling him if it doesn't seem beneficial). I think with the reading, etc. you've done you know there are huge plusses to homeschooling -- why not pursue those and pursue the things on your heart before going the status quo route? Congratulations!!!!!
  8. Cool! (About your mom's name). I think the little rascals girl played into my name as well. RE: Cream soup: I often make my own. You just make a white sauce a little thicker than usual and then add mushrooms or celery or what-have-you. A white sauce made with a cup of milk makes *about* the equivalent of a can of soup. Hope you had a good meal!
  9. Yay, that's so much fun! She looks like she would be great fun to meet! Glad you were able to meetup.
  10. Our kids would LOVE a dog, too. I've put it off for three years, since our last one died. I just can't bring myself to go down that road again -- dogs are MUCH harder than cats. For example, we're going on our annual 5-day vacation this next week. We would have to find care for our dog. Our cat? Just fill a food and water bowl (or two), make sure she has litter, shut the door and we're good. How about a guinea pig?
  11. Yes, I've been there! But I'm just wanting to have FUN, not get all riled up too, lol.
  12. To the baby-naming board at i-village! Anyone else find it extremely enjoyable to name babies for people??? I find that I'm MORE into it when I'm expecting my own (our youngest is 3 months), but I tend to keep visiting for awhile after a birth, too. Must. Stop. Naming. Babies.
  13. I would just recommend a basic cherry pie recipe! The best PIE book going is called just that ... PIE by Ken Haedrich.
  14. Seafood Noodle Casserole 12-16 oz pasta, cooked 1/2 c mayo 1/2 c milk 1 can cream soup (or make) 1 c shredded cheese 1/2 tsp dry mustard or dill 6-8 oz canned seafood (tuna, shrimp, crab) Topping Cook pasta, drain. Combine mayo and milk, then stir in soup, cheese and seasonings. Gently stir in pasta and drained seafood. Pour into oiled 1-1/2 quart casserole dish and cover. Bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle with topping (see below). Bake 5 minutes more. Topping ideas: Tortilla or potato chips; chow mein noodles; french fried onions; 1/2 c. slivered almonds; 1 cup bread crumbs w/1 Tblsp melted butter.
  15. This is what I would say, too. Call again and tell them you're still getting basic cable but had asked to have cable removed. Let them make the decision what to do. If they leave it alone, then watch guilt free! If they come and take away even the basic cable, then so be it.
  16. Sweet ones: Eat them! I'm of the mindset that you overdose on fruit that is in season instead of trying to have a well-rounded fruit diet year round. Sour ones: PIE!
  17. I should have voted "other" rather than no -- I have a world map in its case waiting to get put on the wall. It's been waiting for three years, lol.
  18. We were both college students. He basically had been carrying my books home from school, lol, and one day asked if I wanted to go out to dinner. I did! He took me to a local restaurant which in the day was the cultural hot-spot of this very rural town. I was excited; hadn't gone on many dinner dates. I was happily perusing the menu, trying to decide which delicacy to order, when he asked if I wanted to SHARE a main dish (I didn't! Lol, but I didn't say so). Turns out he didn't have tons of money -- he was working on a hay farm to put himself through school -- but since it was all about *me* at the time (!), I wasn't aware of this. We are now living again in this college town, and he mentioned going to this cafe the other day. But to me it's cliche, now, and I'd much rather try any of many other restaurants that have popped up since our college days. Side note: I love now being at the point where we can leave the kids home and go out on a date!!!!!!
  19. My now-dh was working in Bolivia with Food for the Hungry, and his time near a phone was sporadic, so he sent his proposal in a letter. I wish I had it nearby because he worded it in a very fun way. I wanted to include it on our wedding invitation (we had a fun, unique invitation -- I made ours back in the day before this was common!), but he felt it was too private a sentiment. He stayed in Bolivia another 11 months, flying home on my birthday six weeks before our wedding. We went back to South America together for 14 months and brought home our "made in Bolivia" souvenir ... our first son, Will!
  20. We were just discussing this on another board. One idea is Puerto Rico -- you get a different culture without leaving the USA! NO hassle with passports and the like, but a great vacation all the same. WDYT?
  21. Will I shock you if I tell you I don't even remember that?! (The part about having to have a discussion about letting each make their own decisions, in the context of homeschooling.) I believe you -- because when I got convicted of something back then I thought it was right for everyone, pretty much -- but I don't remember it. Well, all the same (and with no pride at all; I see that signature tag; okay no pride in THIS anyway, lol), I'm glad you're homeschooling after all! :)
  22. and found I had no garbanzo beans. Pretty much no substituting there, lol. Um, those tortillas must have been in your fridge for a loooooooooooong time; I've had corn tortillas in my fridge for six months without them going bad! Tee-hee.
