  1. My boy is the only male with lots of sisters. He's 8 now. He doesn't seem to mind being surrounded with girls. We have several friends who have boys so we try to get together with them. He does Trail Life and golf and those have been good outlets for him. He often goes golfing with my hubby so they enjoy the guy time doing that. I get lots of sympathy from people for having only 1 boy. Honestly, it annoys me. This is our family and my kids don't know differently. I'm choosing to not worry about it.
  2. Thanks everyone! I'm going to check out all of those recommendations. Most of those brands are new to me. Now I need to shop!
  3. Thanks. My band size is fairly small but my cup size is apparently on the larger size for my band size. Therefore, I have a hard time finding bras that fit. I haven't heard of this brand before so I'll have to check it out.
  4. Nursing recs would be great but other baby recs would be good too. I feel overwhelmed since we are starting without much baby gear this time.
  5. I did use it! My dd was 3rd grade. This year we are taking a more relaxed approach to Spanish (because we just moved to a new state). We are using flash cards and Duolingo. I plan to try the Galore Park Spanish for 5th. I couldn't find anything else I liked.
  6. I'm going to need some nursing bras and tanks and other essentials. Tell me your favorites! What are must-haves for a new mom? I'm trying to make a list so I can start shopping. We gave away most of the stuff after our last baby. Oops! So now I'm starting to nest and I need some good recommendations!
  7. Would you like to borrow mine? Lol. I'm finding it hard to juggle several grades with little people in tow.
  8. Right Start Math A AAR 1 Let's Read and Find Out science books Maybe Nancy Larson K Picture books about history to go along with older siblings Picture books and short chapter books for read alouds for lit Piano lessons Art projects and painting with older siblings A good story book Bible A whiteboard with lines to practice handwriting And ideally a student teacher helper to do crafts and fun hands on things. The above plan is what I am going to do with my K this upcoming school year - minus a student teacher/helper. Though I really want a mother's helper for the messy projects and entertaining my littles. Sigh. Wishful thinking.
  9. I have horrible migraines as well and I did give up caffeine years ago. I'm no longer dependent on it. I only have migraines once a month now rather than weekly. I do drink caffeine when I have a migraine and it does help the symptoms a lot. But that is the only time I have caffeine now. I also try to be careful with my chocolate intake. It wasn't fun the first few weeks of kicking the caffeine habit but I'm glad I did it. Overall I think I feel better now.
  10. My kids like Logic Safari and Logic Liftoff. Those are series by Prufrock. Mindware also has workbooks that are logic based.
  11. You've been given some great suggestions. I just want to chime in and say that I have so been there! My son took almost two years to get through AAR1. We spent more than a week per lesson usually. So much review! So much practice! I almost lost my mind. It took him some time to work through AAR2 but we made it. My son always wanted to guess and rush through it. But with all the practice sounding words out he is starting to read! Finally! I'm so glad I let him work through the levels slowly as it has given him the skills needed to sound words out. We start AAR3 soon.
  12. Thank you everyone. The chiro helped some today. I'll see if I can get my hubby to help me with those exercises. I'm so sorry for all of you that have had this too. It's miserable.
  13. Thank you for the replies! I googled and made myself completely freak out. I'm making myself stay off the computer now. But I feel so much better knowing that each of you was able to get help. I'm praying the chiro I see today can give me some relief.
  14. Ok ladies I have a few questions and I need some help. I'm 28 weeks pregnant and in the past few days have begun experiencing extreme pelvic pain and numbness in my left groin and thigh. I'm having trouble sitting and standing up. It's now painful to walk. I called my midwife and she suspects SPD. She's sending me straight to a chiro who specializes in this and then wants to see me as well. Has anyone had this before? What helped? Now I'm worried that my plan for a vaginal birth is in jeopardy. I have many weeks left to go and I want to get better. So talk to me please....
  15. I vote RS. My oldest struggled in math and didn't want to do worksheets. RS has been wonderful for her. She finally "gets" it and math isn't such a chore for her anymore. I'm also using RS with my son who excels in math. He loves it and it teaches exactly how he looks at the math problems. He is blasting through with such a deep understanding of the "why" behind things.
  16. I need ideas for fun game apps to use as a reward for my kids. They all have iPods. The kind with the big screens...whatever those are called. Games don't necessarily have to be educational or free. Ages are 10, 8, and 6.5. What is worth downloading??
  17. My hubby ordered me an Erin Condren planner (that I chose). I'm excited! My mom surprised me with pretty Ugg boots. I really like them. She also bought me some really pretty things for the new baby we are expecting. They are so soft and wonderful. The kids got my hubby comfy lounging clothes (pj pants, warm socks, and long sleeved t-shirts). We just moved to a folder climate and had very few warm clothes. He's really enjoying his new stuff and no longer complaining about being cold around the house. My little girls adore their Sands Alive. My son got wooden swords and shields made by my father in law. He's in love! Lol. They are really awesome. My big girls are getting knitting lessons that start in January. They can't wait. We got Clue to play as a family and my kids are so obsessed with it right now. Overall most gifts were a big hit.
  18. My hubby and I got a hand painted sign of family rules (the Pinterest-y ones that are actually cute). Except this one is on wood painted Royal purple. There is not a speck of purple in my house. My hubby got his grad degree from a school whose colors are purple and something else. But I'm not hanging a bright purple thing on my walls. Everything else in my house is more earth tones/neutral. Unfortunately my in laws feel that just because he got a degree from that school, everything they must buy for us should be in bright purple. The sign would be adorable in another color or even on unfinished wood. Really most colors would be better than blindingly bright purple. Oh well.... They also got us a few gift cards so that works for me. I'm happy to shop for myself and buy non-purple items. So not terrible, but disapponting because I don't want it on my walls.
  19. Ignore. She does not get to determine treatment options for your child. Once things are more stable with your daughter and you feel less stressed, you can decide how to respond. I think I would personally not respond even then. I would just avoid this person and make sure that she did not visit or upset my daughter. For now just focus on your daughter. She needs you and this friend is not proving to be sympathetic or helpful. So avoid/ignore. If she persists with emails I would simply tell her that you are currently working with a team of doctors and you would prefer not to discuss her treatment.
  20. I would not consider Right Start as written to the student. I use the teacher guide and it tells me exactly how to teach to my student. But I could never hand over the guide and let my child use it even with my help as all the answers and explanations are right there. So I'm not sure how this would work.
  21. Sometimes my DH does things like leave dirty laundry on the floor and set his coffee cup in the sink without rinsing it or putting it in dishwasher. Those things do frustrate me at times. However he does help out around the house a lot. Every day he helps the kids do some picking up and he vacuums and does dishes on a regular basis. He also takes out the trash and does quite a bit of cooking or food prep. He is very willing to help and I really appreciate it so I try to sweetly overlook his forgetfulness or oversight in the small things. He views homeschooling as a job for me and knows that it's hard to keep up with five little people (and also being pregnant). So he pitches in often even though there are several chores he really does not enjoy. Overall, he steps in to help with something - which is usually just whatever needs to be done that day. So I would say he helps daily with at least one chore if not more things.
  22. Can you post ages of your kids and maybe a few of their favorite books? Lately we've listened to 101 Dalmatians A Snicker of Magic The Island of Dr. Libris Frog Princess Celia and the Fairies What We Found in the Sofa and How It Saved the World Lemonade War Ms Rapscott's Girls Wings of Fire Mr. And Mrs. Bunny Detectives Extraordinaire Whizz Pop Chocolate Shop The Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates (series) Wollstonecraft Detective Agency My kids are 10 and under
  23. Thanks everyone! It helps to have some opinions. The middle names are interchangeable and can go with any of the first names. And feel free to suggest other options that go well with those names. We're in the phase where we're making lists. We still have time to decide.
  24. We had a boy name all picked out. Went to the ultrasound and...now we start over!
  25. Here's a thread to hopefully lighten things up a little.......maybe....... I need help with a baby name. We are expecting a little girl in March and family members and friends have chimed in with name ideas. We are having a very hard time agreeing on a name. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed this time for some reason. I made a poll with 4 names that are potential contenders. Tell me your favorite and comment if you have any other suggestions. Our other girls are Jaylyn, Ellie, Adley, and Cora. We would like a name that does not start with those 4 letters. Our last name starts with H and is 3 syllables. I would prefer a name that had only 1 or 2 syllables for the first name. Otherwise it just sounds very long. And I don't want a name that begins with H. So........thoughts, suggestions, ideas? ETA: Feel free to move the middle names around to put them with other first names. And if you have other suggestions for names that go well with those first names or those middle names please throw those out. We're in the list-making stage right now and nothing is decided. The only thing that was decided was a boy's name........but obviously that doesn't help us now!
