Someone mentioned that they were willing to post their selections for WWE levels 3 and 4 since the workbooks weren't out yet. Who was that and are they still willing to do so? I would love a copy. I really don't have time to find those specific dictations. The narrations I think I can handle. Thanks for any help. (BTW) I will also buy the workbooks when they are published.

If you have started WWE or given placement test....
Lori in MS replied to Another Lynn's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My son does very well with narrations and summaries, but not with dictation. I am going all the way back to level 2 and doing just the dictations for that level before moving on. -
Have you read your WWE yet? I'm loving it!

Wanting to hold my soon-to-be 8th grader back a year...

http://www.collegeplus.org has a program for earing a bachelor's degree from home for a fraction of the cost and it only takes 2-3 years. Many students have done this and gone on to get their Masters in the traditional way. Even if you chose not to do this, you could spend the first few months or year taking clep tests. You just need to check on how many the college he will attend will accept. CLEP tests are a very inexpensive way to get credits. -
Need curriculum suggestion for new homeschooler.

I think My Father's World Kindergarten and first grade are a good fit for what you described. If they travel a lot she might want to buy some of the suggested reading books instead of getting them at the library. I am not a hand-on activities kind of mom but my dc like them. IMHO MFW has a good balance of reading and hands on activities. -
Anyone using WWE with 5th grade or older?
Lori in MS replied to praisefor3's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I saw some lesson plans available for download on the IEW site. They looked very thorough to me. It told you day by day what to watch, what paragraphs to use, and what assignments to complete each day. I agree with you about IEW being more appropriate for grades 5th and up. -
Anyone using WWE with 5th grade or older?
Lori in MS replied to praisefor3's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I've skimmed through WWE and Susan is very encouraging in her advice for older relunctant writers who don't have the fundamentals down. She has evaluations and diagnostic activities for students 5th-12th grade. After you do those activities she gives recommendations on where to begin. She said not to be discouraged if your older child needs to begin in level 2 or 3. They will move more quickly through it. I plan to do those tests with my children but I think my 6th and 5th graders need to begin with level 3. One of my ds cannot hold the dictation in his head as he writes so I know he will need to work on this. I love how Susan breaks down the writing process into sequential steps. If these fundamentals are not mastered the child will always struggle. So regardless of age, I would start with this book. Once my children master these skills, I will move on to IEW SWI B. It may only take a few months or a year to accomplish this, I don't know but I am glad to finally have a plan. Also for an older child I don't think you would use the workbooks. The text alone would probably work better for them. -
I noticed it said in WWE that there was a list of recommended writing programs for middle and high school at the peacehillpress website but I can't find it. Anyone know where it is? I can't wait until Susan has the middle and high school books written. Reading WWE was such a relief to me. I know what to do now!

I received mine yesterday. I love it! THis is exactly what I have needed for writing in the early years. My older kids missed out but I can help them catch up with this book. I will start my younger children from the beginning. As far as using with FLL I would do the writing assignments in WWE and do all the other lessons in FLL. There is some overlap so if it is too much just skip the copywork and dictation in FLL.

Did I make a mistake choosing Spelling Power??
Lori in MS replied to Jules in MI's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Remember that $60 is for one book that will be used for all children 3rd grade to 12th grade. I think that is a good deal. -

How do you budget for your curriculum
Lori in MS replied to Canada_Mom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Now that I know what curricula I plan to use long term I know how much it is going to be. I start by looking on sale and swap boards and find as much as possible used. I usually use our income tax refund to buy for each year. Usually that is enough. My mother has also agreed to help buy books so whatever I can't afford she buys. -
I like Latina Christiana. My dc can do it independently of me but I go over the lessons myself to learn it with them. They watch the DVD one day. Then listen to the CD and practice the vocabulary. The third day they do the written work. 4th day review with the flashcards. 5th day quiz. Except for the DVD it takes about 10-15 minutes to do.

Analytical grammar is designed to start in middle school. They have a 3 yr schedule if you want to do it in 6th-8th grade or a 2 yr schedule for 7th-8th grade. There are a lot of helpful videos on the website that explain the program. If you have done R&S you will have no problems with AG.

How about Analytical Grammar? I am switching from R&S English to AG this fall. We use IEW for writing. http://www.analyticalgrammar.com

I read somewhere that you switched from TOG to MFW? I have been with MFW since 2003 and TOG is the only curriculum that has tempted me to change. I've since decided to stay with MFW but wondered why you switched and what the differences are. -
