  1. Payton Claire is very pretty. My friend named her daughter Payton Olivia.
  2. This is a much better explanation than I gave, but this is what I was trying to say. We do not have special shelves, though maybe we should.
  3. Good job! I have to make an R2D2 cake for my son that turns 8 tomorrow.
  4. I am probably in the minority here, but I do not make my kids share things that are special to them, especially if they just got them. I will make suggestions that it would be nice of them to share, their sibling would appreciate it, etc. However, if they choose not to share it cannot come out of their room. The one exception to this for us is if it is a group gift (like the Wii). Those kinds of things get shared equally.
  5. I didn't read all the responses, so not sure if you have seen this website yet... beprepared.com
  6. I haven't thought that far into the future. My mom wanted to be Nana, but the kids call her Grandma and called my dad Grandpa while he was still around. My MIL is called Grammy and FIL (who is from Chile) is called Abuelo.
  7. We only have cats at this point, but I pay $10/day for them to check the food/water, and scoop out the litter box every few days. We have 2 cats. When we had guinea pigs, the one time we left them I think we paid $15/day which included all the cat stuff plus food/water and using the dustbuster daily on the fleece bedding. I also paid an additional $10 (I think it was $10, may have been $15) on the days I wanted an actual bedding change.
  8. We were just looking at something like this (may have been this one) in the thinkgeek catalog last night. :)
  9. We are finally getting the basement finished so that we can move school out of the dining room. We live in a 100 year old house and the electrician is pretty much starting from scratch in the area where our school room is going to be. The room is 25 feet long and roughly 16 feet wide. We are also having lighting put in for the stairwell (no lights there at all now). I have never hired an electrician before -- my dad (who is not around anymore) was an engineer and always did the work himself. Is this a fair price for this amount of work? The guy is a family friend and is a master electrician/independent licensed contractor. Here is his proposal: Hello, the following price includes installation, materials, (except light fixtures and lamps), and permits. The following list is a list of electrical openings and items ordered per our meeting. 1- switch at the bottom of the stairs to control 6 light fixtures (not yet defined or in price) to lay in drop ceiling. 11- plugs installed in the "class room" side of the basement spaced out to exceed code requirements (note: if you like to reduce the amount of plugs you can take off $45 dollars per plug reduced) About 7 are required to meet code requirements. 2- switches (3-ways) at the stairs to operate the light at the bottom of the stairs and one new light opening to be placed above the switch at the top of the stairs (fixture and lamp not included) 2- (Arc Fault Breakers) to cover circuits, both lighting and plugs 1- circuit to the sump pump and 1 GFI receptacle on 15 amp breaker $1,834.29
  10. Here are a few options if you want to go that route: http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=536392 http://www.amazon.com/Boon-Green-Oval-Animal-Bag/dp/B000K1XMOU http://www.amazon.com/Boon-Trio-Animal-Bag-Orange/dp/B000K1XMPO/ref=dp_cp_ob_ba_title_3
  11. There is an empty beanbag chair with a zipper that you can buy and stuff with your own plush toys -- good for storage and seems like it would be comfy if you have room for one of those. I think it was either IKEA or One Step Ahead that had them last time I noticed. Just a second, I will check.
  12. It is a crazy time. I have looked at that site, but I didn't see anything about babies who continually want to switch from head down to breech and back. I will look again, though. Thanks for the reminder. :)
  13. Man, I wish we could live in PA...I know the prices are much more reasonable there. DH works in Silver Spring (on the DC/Maryland line) though, and his train commute is already 1 1/2 hours each way from where we are. We'd never see him if we move out further.
  14. Congratulations! I'm so sorry your MIL is acting this way. :(
  15. So, I woke up in the middle of the night and felt compelled to look at the calendar. Good thing! For some reason, I thought my appt was tomorrow and it was really this morning.... I am now 35w,1d. Unless something happens, we are back to talking about induction between 37w and 38w,5d. Even if something happens and she needs to come out, I cannot have the steroid shots because I am past 34 weeks. Baby has flipped back to being breech yet again. Other than that, things look great. Good news -- my fluid has started to go down. It was 28 Friday and 24 this morning. I feel like I am on a roller coaster. As much as I am grateful that baby is healthy enough to stay in longer, I really thought they would take her by the end of the week for sure and had gotten to the point of being more excited than nervous about that. Next appointment is Friday...I will update then.
  16. We are on .06 of an acre! Land is about $100K/acre here, but we have been working on getting this place ready to sell so we can buy 2-3 acres -- hopefully this coming spring, and then the kids will have a place to run outside. We are in an OLD railroad town (our house is 100 years old) where the houses are super close together and right on the street.
  17. What a beautiful blanket. I would love to have a red blanket for a girl or a boy. Nice to have something different than the blues and pinks you normally find. :)
  18. My parents had 4 kids, and we will have 4 kids any second now...so, almost 8.
  19. This gets my vote: The letter W is not used in this language.
  20. No idea what is causing it...I guess gestational diabetes (which I don't have) is the #1 cause for too much fluid, there are some other scary things that can cause it, and the rest of the cases, they have no idea what causes it. I learned a new word this morning because of all this, though...idiopathic -- it means nobody has a clue what is causing an issue. Dr. K was talking about how he wants the birth handled this morning. He said he definitely does not want me to have an unplanned delivery, and that he wants to switch me to heparin for a specified amount of time before inducing. That's as much as I know at this point. I was freaking out on Tuesday, but am much better now. Thanks for all the well wishes, everybody. :)
  21. Every time we have a big get-together with DH's family, MIL makes drunken turkey which goes over well. It is baked to the point of the meat falling off the bones and repeatedly basted with red wine while cooking. This makes it extremely tender. She serves it on potato rolls. I can get exact specs on how to do it if you want.
