  1. We aim to start at about 9 (but we're just doing K), but I want to work to 8:30 or so once I get in the swing of it.
  2. Mine is 5 1/2 and I constantly need to remind him to check how he is holding his pencil. He can do it, it just slips his mind. We do need to work on some hand strengthening too!
  3. I am so seriously freaking out right now. I'm a light sleeper, I would think that if something touched me I would know...right? I mean, a fly wakes me up. The sound of the wind from the fan hitting the blinds wakes me up. Right????????
  4. I was just reading this on another link. I think I might faint.
  5. I have yet to carry a successful pregnancy, so I understand where you are coming from. Those are spectacular numbers!!!
  6. I'm getting quite selective when it comes to my FB friends. Not only would I unfriend her, I would probably block her as well. Hey, at least something is getting cleaned!
  7. My 5 year old woke me up at about 1:30 this morning. I don't remember what he said or what he wanted, all I remember is vaguely seeing something flying around the room. It took a few seconds, then I shrieked "bat!" and high-tailed it out of the bedroom and ushered DS back to bed. I was standing in the hallway then, internally freaking out (I have SERIOUS bat phobias) when I heard a noise in the bedroom and some stirring. Slowly, I watched DH emerge from the bedroom on his hands and knees with our bedspread completely covering him from head to foot. After about 5 minutes of "what do we do?" he flipped on the bedroom light to get the dumb thing to stop flying and slept like a log on the couch. It took me until almost 3 o'clock to even begin to think of sleeping and I ended up in the boys' room on the floor. (And had dreams about bats crawling on the floor.) This morning DH tried to get it but couldn't muster up the courage to get near it. He left for work and I called police dispatch (officers carry tennis rackets in their trunks just for bats) and they sent someone over. The officer just reached up and grabbed it off the ceiling with a towel (meanwhile, I was gagging in the next room. Serious bat issues.) and released it outside after letting the kids see it. Done. Gone. I went up to strip my bed and bleach the heck out of the linens. Just going into the bedroom made me shaky, teary, and sweaty. I went back in this afternoon and the same thing happened - panic. We made a quick trip to the local grocery store today and while in produce, DS yelled "bat!" and ducked just to get a reaction out of me. It worked, the little rat! I spontaneously just burst into tears and couldn't breathe. It's a funny story, I know it is. But I am SERIOUSLY traumatized by it. When we have cookouts in the back yard during the summer and fall, once I spot a bat, I go in the house. DH and friends can fend for themselves at that point. I took one look at our house bat today and dry heaved. Seriously. I can't go in the bedroom without panicking. I can't even go in there to wipe down the surfaces. I don't think I can sleep in there tonight...or ever. We may have to move. :tongue_smilie:
  8. Not yet, I keep meaning to go but haven't made it up there yet. Having to take my two "helpers" along is a bit of a deterrent for me!
  9. Good grief, you all! I am in bed saying dog and fox over and over. DH thinks I am nuts! (and for the record, the is very very little difference between the two in my pronunciation!)
  10. I know we live in an easy state to homeschool in. I have been reading the stuff on the Dept. of Ed. Site just to know my stuff. If you have not withdrawn your child from ps and are homeschooling from the start, do you need to register online? Or is it only for those who withdrawal from ps?
  11. Me! (virtual, for now). We are south of Ft Wayne about 30 minutes.
  12. :svengo: I admit that although I do not have perfect grammar, I am an apostrophe hunter!
  13. Congratulations! I'm with a PP and so far have skipped the system entirely.
  14. Oh yeah, we love Magic School Bus videos! That's a great idea about "find out more", thanks!
  15. You're going to get a ton of different opinions! It depends on you and your child, really. We tried OPG after hearing how wonderful it was. It failed miserably. It did give me instruction on how to teach phonics, for which I am thankful, but DS hated it.m what's working for us is ETC and BOB books currently.
  16. Oh, goodness, that's funny. He's not the only boy to worry about stuff like that. I remember when my brother was about that age and he learned that all the glaciers were melting and the earth would be completely flooded, and what would we do?!?!?!?! My mom just deadpanned "how long can you tread water?"
  17. We started the first week of July because it was crazy hot outside and DS was getting bored. My original plan was ARFH, OPGTR, Singapore EM, ES Intro to Science, Expedition Earth (Confessions), and a ton of library books. Every day. Then art, both appreciation and crafty stuff, thrown in somewhere. And field trips. And all of us singing Kumbaya at the end of the day, apparently. Go ahead and snicker. I am. Reality - OPG was the first to get shelved. DS hated it. Still does. Replaced with ETC and BOB books. Making slow and steady progress. Science and EE never even got off the ground. Eh, eventually. Maybe this year. Whatever. Art appreciation? In kindergarten? With glue tasters? He doesn't care. Reality has morphed into a daily plan that works for us. In the morning, I read while they eat breakfast, then they have book basket time. Morning goals include ETC, math, and handwriting, as well as play breaks and read alouds. After lunch is outside time, then devotional time, read alouds, science or animal books or videos, and another book basket time. The hour before dinner is wind down time so poor DH doesn't get hit with two mini tornadoes when he gets home. We have time to run errands and play. I've learned I need a schedule that is consistent, but flexible. And Spiderman doesn't care one bit about Mozart!:lol: It works. It gets done. And we're happy! (now, if I can just fight the voices in my head telling me I should be doing "more"!)
  18. I'm another one who is using EM with C-Rods...although we really haven't broken out the rods much yet. We like it!
  19. We haven't seen the paths how at all, and won't, but DH found Duck Dynasty one day by accident and his life has never been the same.
  20. I am thinking of Letter of the Week for my youngest who will be 3 next month, but this is ADORABLE.
  21. Mrs. Mungo's signature. :) I try very very hard to not let the little things bother me. Honestly. And I think I'm a nice, normal person. I do volunteer a lot in other organizations. I'm sorry some think of me as a bit snobby, but I still think that if you present yourself as an educational group, you should be able to catch simple grammatical errors. Ad yes, I will end up joining for the fun field trips, I just plan on keeping my mouth shut. I'm already in charge of too many things!
