  1. :lurk5: I'm enjoying this conversation; thanks for the opportunity to "listen in". And thanks for that book rec, Stripe. I found it at our library, so it is next on my reading list.
  2. Speaking of Italian beauty... looking at the architecture, the cities (Venice!),...Ferrari ;), etc., I can't help but see "STEM" written all over it. I often see people list a heavy STEM focus as being one of the reasons they must not fit into the classical ed category. Maybe it is because in those circles you often find a suggested schedule like "do 30 min. a day of Saxon math" (?). Maybe you (general you) still aren't classical, but is it because of the STEM focus? Does it have to be either/or?
  3. Thank you for taking the time to share with us! Your entire post was lovely (and helpful!). Thank you especially for this! I plan to get a notebook out today. :001_smile: As for the bolded part above...I think I may need to put it on my refrigerator...
  4. This makes so much sense. I guess I felt that I agreed with CM on feeding children's minds with good books, but I never considered it was to the exclusion of any other method...if anything I sometimes feel we must settle for a book because a better alternative isn't available... (in my dream world I would invite an author of one of these great books over for lunch ;))...lots to think about...
  5. Aw, that is sweet. : ) I've been meaning to pm you for some time now...I should do that one day soon...
  6. This has been another great thread! From a very young age I loved to sit quietly in the corner and listen to the adults converse well into the night. These threads make me feel like that curious little girl in the corner again. Thank you all for posting your thoughts (and all the great links!). I have SO much to learn...
  7. I hope you return, I've enjoyed your posts!
  8. Thank you Hunter! I love following your posts; you always have great finds, ideas, and discussions! I can't wait to share these with some other folks I know who aren't on here.
  9. You'll have to snap another picture for us of what you end up doing/using. :001_smile:
  10. The tables on this page show everything you need. Look toward the bottom of the first table (Resources for All Years 1 to 6) to find links to "Video clips of MEP Primary Teaching"... http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mepres/primary/default.htm (The videos give you a "feel" for the program as it is taught in a classroom setting.)
  11. :iagree: The lesson plans will tell you what to do and what material to reference/use (like practice book p 47 question 3, or look at poster #4, etc.) I found these blog posts helpful when I was getting started: http://ohpeacefulday.blogspot.com/2009/06/mep-101.html http://fisheracademy.blogspot.com/2010/05/mep-organization-in-pictures.html
  12. I usually open the pdf's (the lesson plans and answer key) in iBooks so I have easy access to them and can bookmark my spot. Some people open the workpages pdf in something like the Notability app so the child can fill in the answers on the iPad. We have tried this with a couple of "blackboard" exercises, but that's about it so far.
  13. Here are some helpful blog posts to get you started: ETA: I meant to post this one first MEP 101. http://ohpeacefulday.blogspot.com/2009/07/mep-minute-by-minute.html http://fisheracademy.blogspot.com/2010/05/mep-organization-in-pictures.html So far...I print off the Practice book a section at a time (these are the work pages) and I view the Lesson plans on the laptop or iPad (if this didn't work out for me I would print those out booklet style). Sometimes a lesson calls for the class to look at one of the "posters"--so far we haven't printed these out, but look at it together on the iPad instead. The lesson plans may also ask you to demonstrate something on the "bb" (blackboard)--you can use a whiteboard, magnadoodle, etc--I have also used the iPad with a couple of these (zoomed in on the example in the lesson plans so we could look at it together).
  14. OK, I had an idea! "Dishpans". Remember those? Walmart carries some made by Sterilite in stores--they have different sizes and they come in black. It looks roughly like the size/shape you already have but in solid plastic (no basket-looking holes). And cheap. You could check to see if your local store carries any in black...?
  15. Yeah, I'm pretty sure my Target still has these in green too. I like the matching stackable crates they carry too (some in black). Those aren't quite the same, but they seem sturdy and are definitely cheap. They are usually in a different location in the store (DYR? "Do Your Room"? whatever their store brand is:tongue_smilie:). They look like plastic milk crates and they come in different colors. ETA: Found them. They are actually Sterilite. I haven't bought any yet, but they look decent...
  16. I collected some of those Target bins in white for my pantry and laundry room (love them). They seemed to be out of one size for a long time, but I kept checking back and finally it re-appeared. Have you aked anyone at your Target if they are out for good or if it might be restocked? Or if it could even be possible to have some sent from another Target store (if any can be located)? Hm, there must be something like that somewhere... I'll keep an eye out. If all else fails, you could pick up a can of black made-for-plastics spray paint. :D
  17. :seeya: Hi Tina! I was wondering about you just the other day since I hadn't noticed you around here in a while. Glad all is well.
  18. He needs to demonstrate it with C-rods. :D

  20. The Miroslav Sasek books are probably a little "young" for what you are looking for...? But I enjoy them, so thought I'd mention it... :D
  21. Even my toddler enjoyed looking at the pictures! We like to get it from the library periodically, no pun intended. ;) The app looks like it would be cool too.
  22. Sounds lovely! Not much longer here for our strawberries to be ready...and then it's blueberry season!
