This is a complete art curriculum grades 1-8. It teaches everything step by step. Of special note, crayon drawing is taught in grades 1-3 as a form of painting with pages and pages of exercises using just 8 colors. See links below to see what was meant by a "crayon", before reading our initial misunderstanding of "crayons". Grade 1 Grade 2 Grade 3 EDIT: added Amy Jo's link. I borrowed this from the library and scanned the entire book. Now I find myself wondering.... Is this going to be too teacher-intensive for my non-artsy brain to grasp? I thought I might have an answer for art. Now it's back to the drawing board.... No pun intended.

We do the some of the art projects included in TOG but my kids are asking for more. Are there any good workbook programs for their different levels, 7th grade on down?

I'm considering Artistic Pursuits for my twins. They are almost 13. They both have natural artistic abilities and do well mimicking other art work. Artistic Pursuits looks interesting but I'm not sure which level to start with. Anyone have experience with both the Junior High and Senior High books? It looks like the books cover the same aspects of art, with the HS level more in depth maybe. I like the sample step-by-step on the Junior High description page. Is there enough step-by-step in the Senior High books or is it assumed you don't need the step-by-step at that level? Can anyone weigh in on the difference between Senior and Junior High books? Thanks. Jill

I'm wondering if there is an inexpensive curriculum that combines art history with learning the corresponding techniques/medium the artists used? Thank you! Cari DD (9)FLL 3, SotW, MUS, Sequential Spelling, Cursive DS (6)FLL 1, SotW, MUS, Printing ws

I have ignored art for far too long. At the same time, I believe it is very important to a well-rounded education! With my oldest dd (rising 8th grader), I managed art lessons. It seemed I had all the time in the world back then. She is interested in Visual Manna's "master drawing" curriculum for next year. Does anyone have any experience with this program? I will be teaching all 3 of my younger dc together. They are ages 7, 8, and 9 (2 boys and 1 tomboy). All I have done with them so far is, you know, the "art activities" found here and there in other subjects. Lots of coloring, cutting, pasting, etc. I DON'T want a craft program. I want an art program that teaches how to draw, the elements of color, and incorporates different mediums. I guess I would call it a basic program. I need it to be very hands-on as opposed to art appreciation. (Remember, 2 boys and 1 tomboy). Art appreciation will cause their eyes to glaze over. The program needs to be well-laid out for me. I don't have time to gather resources. I did "Drawing with Children" with my oldest..... but I need something laid out in weekly lessons with clear intructions. I would like to "do art" once/week for a couple of hours. Which programs have YOU used successfully? TIA, Jackie

I have Drawing with Children and I have yet to open the book. What I have learned about myself in this stage of life is that I need something more teacher-friendly (read spelled out for me). I even printed the lessons from Paula's Archives to help but honestly it was still too much work. I very much want to teach ds6 (almost 7) how to draw but is there a "Drawing for Dummies" type course out there? ;) I have read all I can find on Draw Squad but am wondering if the book is enough for $12.95 or do I need to cough up the $250 for the video series? I am definitely art phobic if you can't tell. :tongue_smilie: What do all of you use for art with the younger ones?
