My husband's stepsister has a high functioning autistic child. We've known her for about 8 years and she's been dh's stepsister for about 4. She originally had chosen to not medicate her child but he had started becoming violent and with a heavy heart she decided to take him to a psychiatrist and he is now on meds.
My 10 year old son (who is the same age as the autistic child) knows he's autistic but doesn't fully understand what that means. The last time we saw them, my son asked on the way home if his autism was getting better. DS sort of viewed it as an illness that could be cured.
To me, this shows that the meds have had a positive effect. She was torn on medicating him and I thought that my son's comments might be comforting but then again I'm afraid they might be taken another way.
Would you mention this to her?
