  1. A delay?! :001_huh: How long of a delay should we expect? You know, we new Pagans have a lot of catching up to do!
  2. Hmmm.....the Pope has a Doctorate in Theology and, let's see......Ken Ham has a Bachelor's in Applied Science.... I think I'll go with the Pope on biblical matters.
  3. I follow! I completely understand where you are coming from, and I share the same concerns. What I don't know is how to do something about it. I mean, on one hand it sounds simple: start your own state group. On the other.....how?:001_huh: I have an attorney friend who may be able to provide some basic direction on setting up a non-profit group, but then what? And what about the day-to-day? There would have to be filing of non-profit status, someone to balance books (because my DH said that if we started one there would be people who would donate "just because"), someone to organize the whole thing, a board of directors, .....and it goes on and on. I don't want the religious groups to speak for me, either, but I don't know what to do about it. *sigh*
  4. I will be. I've also added BioLogos to my home page. And I just love the "he-who-must-not-be-named"!!
  5. I think that all homeschooling (and afterschooling) parents are concerned about "academic excellence", but we all have different views on what that means for our children. No two homeschools are identical in all aspects. What is "academically excellent for *my* child will probably be very different from what is "academically excellence" for your child. Or it might be the same. Maybe a statement that defines academic excellence as the *best* that your child is capable of academically? I believe that unschoolers and parents of children with LDs strive for academic excellence, but their path to academic excellence looks different from my path.
  6. I love all of this, but especially the bolded. Is it too late to change our name to something like: Homeschoolers for Academic Excellence?
  7. The bolded is what has me troubled. I was just asking my DH last night *how* to create a national homeschool support group that is not focused on religion. A group to lobby for freedom of education.
  8. This year (grade 6) we are using Glencoe's World History Journey Across Time the Early Ages as our spine, with Knowledge Quest maps, the red Kingfisher History Encyclopedia, and the big Smithsonian History reference book along with historically appropriate articles from National Geographic and Smithsonian magazines. My DS really, really, really loves textbook formats. He's not too crazy about outlines, but we're working on it.
  9. Now, why have I never thought of that?! I use excel for EVERYTHING else, why not curriculum notes! Thank you!!!!! :) Oh, and we'll be using History of the Ancient World for 9th grade with Knowledge Quest maps.
  10. We are using (and have been using) Harcourt's Journey Through the Old Testament and Journey Through the New Testament. This is a high school level course that I am using with my now 6th grader. We are using just the text this year. Next year we will use the study guide. I could probably stretch it to a 3 year rotation.
  11. I think this is true. I can only speak for myself, but I'm not very confrontational. I believe in an Old Earth, but don't really concern myself over whether other homeschoolers believe exactly as I do.......so I tend to not say too much about it. I think that those of us who have remained quiet on this issue are going to need to be more vocal if we want to see changes.
  12. Noooooo!!!!! :crying: (That rocket sounds really cool!! The cockroach loving science teacher, not so much!)
  13. My laughter interupted my son's math assignment. Faith, I have really, REALLY enjoyed your posts the past couple of days!! I'll vote "yes" for snake extinction, if you'll vote "yes" to cockroach (by all their various names!) extinction. ;)
