  1. 5 traps with peanut butter and nothing yet! I haven't dealt with mice as an adult, but when I was a kid we visited an aunt of mine for a couple weeks and they had mice, they were all killed within a couple of days with PB traps... What should I try next?
  2. At some point today the back door was left open and a mouse got into our house. We'd known he was on the back porch for a couple of days, so I'm not sure why someone left the door open. :glare: I discovered him a few minutes ago in the darkness of the dining room he ran away from me and towards our cat (a ragdoll). The yorkie was right behind him. In the dark no one could really see what was going on, all I saw was a dark blur about 4 inches long moving quite rapidly. When I turned on the light he ran the other direction under the door of an unused bedoom we're currently using as storage. I frowned and looked up at the cat, who had backed about 10 feet away from where the mouse had approached him (and whose favorite toys are stuffed mice with rattles and catnip) and said, "Some mouser you are!" The cat ran away. DH went to buy peanut butter and mouse traps. I want to hide my head under my pillow but the thought of mice INSIDE the house is creeping me out. Why did he have to choose the one room I've been avoiding all summer? Now I'll have to clean it out. Maybe tonight.
  3. I pick my products based on 1) smell and 2) the way they make my hair look. Surprisingly, sometimes the MOST EXPENSIVE shampoos make my hair look HORRIBLE. I used to LOVE kiss my face whenever back when it smelled like grapefruit. Right now I alternate between Biolage for fine hair and something cheap from Suave (they have a new one called Everlasting Sunshine that smells amazing). I'm allergic to Pantene (makes my scalp break out in an itchy rash) but if you're not, it makes hair look gorgeous. Some cousins with very curly hair LOVE it. As for products, I use a spray in conditioner (usually Biolage), and a tiny amount of Biosilk whenever I use any sort of heat treatments. I don't use too much else, I like my hair soft. ETA: Most sulfate free shampoos leave my hair texture feeling off after 2-3 weeks. If they work for you, go for it.
  4. :iagree: Get her on to a med-surg floor, with a year of experience and good recommendations she can specialize. If she makes it clear she wants certain areas to her nurse manager, she may twist things a little so that when those departments need emergency floats she'll be the first option to float to those floors. OR, take a job in the area where school is for a year and after a year or two of experience, take a travel nursing job in your area. Many travel nurses are hired on directly, and in the mean time make really good money.
  5. There's also a warning on the old Sesame Street dvds! Apparently Big Bird's imaginary friend Snuffy might be confused with mental illness. :001_huh:
  6. Can your son have a meeting with this pastor in the next few days, so he can tell him that what happened was totally inappropriate, that what that man did was not his fault, that you guys did not overreact, and that he is in no way in any sort of trouble? Also, could he meet with the whole youth group and tell them the same thing, so that when the story gets out your son isn't ostracized? Also, can some of the parents arrange to take the boys camping and have a river or lake baptism so they boys don't miss out on the fun activity? Perhaps it can be a family event and many people can go.
  7. I'm sorry Amy. Praying for you & your family.
  8. First of all, libel or slander do not apply. Accusing a named person of doing something you know to be false, either on a blog or in a newspaper or in person - deliberately lying and misleading about someone's character is libel or slander. Calling the police for suspected grooming behavior and ACTUALLY taking a child somewhere without the parent's permission (while across state lines!!!) is neither libel nor slander. Luring the child back there again without the parent's permission is not libel nor slander. Finding out what the local laws are and if they have been violated is not libel nor slander. Filing a police report about what actually happened is not libel nor slander.
  9. It certainly wouldn't hurt to call the police and ask if there is someone who works with child abuse crimes that you could speak to. I was once nearly kidnapped when I was a kid. It happened that a police officer drove by and I waved at him. The creepy guy left. When I told my mom what had happened we called the police. They said it was better to be safe than sorry and thanked us for calling. The following week someone with the same car and same description tried to abduct two girls from an area middle school. They got away too, but after that I've always wanted to err on the side of caution. The positive aspect of a police report is that it establishes a pattern of behavior. That way if this guy does something else that's questionable in the future there is always this report out there backing it up. If at some point one boy does come forward, having previously established police reports for clearly bad behavior can make the difference in deciding if he should be prosecuted or not. I'm a mandatory reporter so if I had more information I'd call the police FOR you.
  10. Luring is illegal in Texas too, but it looks like it has to be specifically sexual or his intent must be sexual, so in this case it's only something they could use retroactively or if this guy has a prior history of abusing boys: http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PE/htm/PE.33.htm#33.021
  11. You might try starting with the HAI diet (http://www.fred.net/slowup/haidiet.txt), and test after everything you eat, and walk or bike ride if numbers go up, and avoid that meal or food in the future.
  12. I would respond that this is an EMERGENCY and there is a high probability that because laws were broken (taking children somewhere without permission is kidnapping) that the police will be involved and that he needs to cancel some appointments and fit you in ASAP.
  13. 3 options: ignore it quarter round or another small flexible wood trim you can stain wood putty or caulk if you're painting instead of staining can close the gaps.
  14. My sister got gestational diabetes with her last pregnancy. She tested after everything she ate and within a few weeks ended up on a primal diet because other things (especially dairy - even whipping cream!) gave her a whopping sugar rise. Her son was born so healthy and so strong- he could hold his own head up on the day he was born and could scoot/bounce all of his weight with his legs too!
  15. Sex offender registries: Since you said you live in Dallas and the Ranch is 6 hours north, here are some sex offender registry links to check. Texas: https://records.txdps.state.tx.us/DPS_WEB/SorNew/index.aspx Oklahoma: http://docapp8.doc.state.ok.us/servlet/page?_pageid=230&_dad=portal30&_schema=PORTAL30&SearchMode=Registry&delinquent_public=Y&SearchAll=ALL Kansas: http://www.theoffenderlist.com/Kansas_Sex_Offender_List__K.html Arkansas: http://acic.org/Registration/index.htm
  16. I'd call CPS and, if you have any friends who are cops, I'd give one of them a call too and have them do some checking up on him. This is DEFINITE grooming behavior, and taking a bunch of boys somewhere alone, without permission or other adults in his vehicle is SO WRONG. In fact, if you know his full name, check the online sexual predator reports for your area NOW. ETA: Call the other parents tonight. Call the pastor when you've spoken to the other parents. This is SO WRONG.
  17. It's made a HUGE difference for me. If you have low thyroid because you have an autoimmune issue, iodine will make it worse. If you have low thyroid because you have too much exposure to things like chlorine and foods that block iodine (soy, cruciferous veggies), and because you don't eat enough iodine itself, it helps a ton. I opted not to do it with kelp because it would take too many pills and because I'd read some things about possible mercury contamination. I never decided if it were true or not, but I did decide I didn't want to risk it. I opted for Iodoral that I ordered through someone on Amazon. There are several strengths available. I retested my thyroid after 90 days and I got the BEST numbers I've ever had. I have no more thyroid-type symptoms. I'm going to keep it up.
  18. DH and I were just talking about AOPS and math enrichment, and I wanted him to read that article by Richard Rusczyk about the importance of solving hard problems, and how a lot of kids who score well on AP Calc do poorly at college math... But I cannot seem to find the thread that linked to that article, or the article itself. Help?
  19. IDK about regrets, but the reasons we're homeschooling all have to do with our misgivings about our own schooling.
