  1. That is great news about the genetic testing!! I'm so happy that she stood her ground regarding the treatment...not many people know they can refuse anything.
  2. :grouphug: -- I know this is news is "new" and you're still processing what it means. (My Mom and my sister are both breast cancer survivors...) I'm sure you have a million thoughts flying through your head...but did anyone mention genetic testing?
  3. My husband is a systems administrator and he recommends VIPRE.
  4. Hmmm...in my yellow pages, the UG Lit Assignment is "Diary of an Early American Boy" (which my son had already read as part of SL Science) and the D Lit Assignment is "Diary of a Napoleonic Foot Soldier". (which sounded really "dry" to me) I hear ya about not buying another copy of something you already own. ;)
  5. I wish I could relax and learn to do this... ;) "Abridged assignment"? Are you referring to P&P or the UG assignment? (I already owned an unabridged copy of P&P so I didn't purchase the recommended version from Bookshelf Central.)
  6. Is this what you're referring to? http://www.rodandstaffbooks.com/item/1-12931-3/
  7. I'm considering Rod & Staff English for my 16 year old. What is the difference between the blue books labeled Grade 9 "Communicating Effectively" Book 1 Set and the purple set labeled Grade 10 "Communicating Effectively" Book 2 set? (Both covers say "English 9 & 10"...) Is there a Grade 11 or 12? I didn't see them on the website... Thanks in advance, Amy
  8. We're also using TOG Y3...but I didn't think to do this as a Read-Aloud. :( (I bought Once on this Island but we haven't even started it yet.)
  9. :iagree: -- I much prefer the older editions that John Saxon actually wrote as opposed to the editions that have been published since Saxon was bought by HMH.
  10. :iagree: -- we use the Art Reed DVDs along with Saxon...and there are other teaching DVDs such as Saxon Teacher and DIVE which help many students work independently.
  11. :iagree: -- and does anyone else find it strange that the other Mom felt it was OK to make a decision like that for someone else's child? (and argue about it in front of the 3 boys...)
  12. I remember *NOTHING*...other than it was an Honors/AP English course. (I graduated in 1987) I know as a Freshman I had to read Dante's Inferno...
  13. :grouphug: -- hope you feel better soon! Caffeine is nasty stuff...BTDT
  14. Hmmm....we had a foam puzzle (think Lauri) that had all the equivalent measures. Let me poke around and see if I can find it anywhere... ETA: http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Kit-Foam-Puzzle-Kitchen-Measurements/dp/B00371YJ2Y (this is it...) ETA #2: Google "foam puzzle" "kitchen measurements"...I found it on eBay as well
  15. Another thought: you might consider getting the tranny "flushed" and a new tranny filter & fluid.
  16. A few quick thoughts while I'm on lunch break: Fords do not come *NEW* w/ an Energizer battery...it is probably a replacement battery. Is it hooked up correctly? The way you describe the hitching & slow pick up, I would suspect a tranny issue.
  17. We're going to do a timeline this year...and next year. (my 16 yo's last year) Unfortunately we haven't done well with timelines in the past, but I am determined to start it and carry it through until each child graduates. I'm thinking about the Easy Timeline Creator Software from Terri Johnson...
  18. Now I'm off to Amazon to purchase 2 more toner cartridges...:auto:
  19. Me... I printed all 45 pages of the TOG Y3 Loom: Teaching Rhetoric Literature. I'm reading, highlighting, etc. (I think my head is about to pop off...LOL) I've printed out 36 weeks worth of planning charts for 2 students and put those in binders. I have the map projects planned for the first 3 weeks. The rest of the books should be here Friday or Monday... I need to finish planning the first 4 weeks of R Lit assignments for co-op.
