  1. SRSLY, last EEG they put Frozen on while attaching everything and then TURNED IT OFF. My kid was not amused.
  2. At home or a kitchen worker in public? That shifts my answer some. Also, how clean are the door handles?
  3. I did get a flu shot this year. :( Totally did me no good. I am a little better and I hope to continue getting better. And I hope that none of my kids catch this.
  4. True. Anonymous released a bunch of numbers.
  5. I ended up going to the ER this morning. I tested positive for influenza and they started me on tamiflu. My oxygen sats were low for me (86%), I was tachy, and I couldn't get my fever to come down at home. I'm really glad I went in. It took multiple nurses with the ultrasound to get an IV in, but after some fluids and pain relief I'm feeling better. I got to spend some quality time on an EKG, too. Take the flu seriously this year! It's bad stuff.
  6. I'm in my late 20s and reasonable stylish. I just got one from an online black friday sale- $80 bag for $24. I love it. I also get tons of compliments on it from other moms my age, so, at least here, it's not terribly out.
  7. I don't think I saw anyone mention this- if this happens again before you see the neuro and it lasts over 5 mins, call an ambulance.
  8. I picked up a bunch of Sambucol and dosed everyone. I really, really, really hope I'm the only one to get sick!! I'm so sorry that so many boardies are down with this. :(
  9. Panicky feelings can absolutely be a precurser- that's the aura someone mentioned above. My DD gets a feeling that something isn't right, usually with enough time to sit down so she doesn't fall. You've got this, mama. You aren't alone. The Epilepsy Foundation has amazing resources.
  10. With the history of panic attacks I'd want to see a neuro experienced with psychogenic seizures. Did anyone happen to notice if his eyes were open or closed? I hope that you can get this figured out asap- there are some great medication options that work for a lot of people. Hugs, mama.
  11. I have influenza. I'm worried it's going to trickle through all of my kids and husband and I am so MISERABLE. The data on tamiflu looks terrible. What can I do to feel better? Everything hurts.
  12. It's not the same at all, but we faced the decision on what to do when I was pregnant with #4 (2 years old now). I had severe hyperemesis from before the positive test until birth. I was in the hospital a lot, ended up with a PICC line and home health for fluids and IV nutrition. I spent the whole pregnancy just wretched and unable to do almost anything. We kept homeschooling but the academics were a lot different that year. Lots of home ec (eldest learned to cook simple things) and I read to them from the couch. Looking back I don't regret keeping them home although it would have been a lot easier to have them gone all day. I hope you don't have to decide this, but if you do, take it day by day.
  13. I'm SO sorry. :( We just ran into this last month with DD2 at the children's hospital- in the past we've been able to bring the other kids in and this time they wouldn't budge at all. :(
  14. I think that this is *really* figure dependent. I wear skinny jeans 95% of the time because it helps give me the illusion of being a little curvier. Yoga pants make me look really spindly for some reason. I only wear workout clothes to work out, my vanity couldn't handle them in public.
  15. Oops, just saw this! I hope you can find something comfy for you that makes *you* feel good. :)
  16. I find well fitting jeans really comfortable. I don't prefer personally to look nicer for people I see occasionally vs those I care for most, with the exception of church. I don't feel anywhere as motivated if I wear pajamas all day, so that weighs into it, as well. :)
  17. I wear nice jeans, a fitted T shirt, and a cardigan in cool weather. I like modcloth, target, old navy, ect.

When you ask about emergency meds, at her age I would shy away from Diastat. It's administered rectally. Nasal versed is super easy to give and has been really effective here. It's cheap per dose, as well, which is nice when you need it often.

I know it's way more involved in that, I just meant as a starting point. My assumption would be that if they want a real public access animal they'll go with a reputable training org. :)

Are you hoping to do public access with the dog? You'll want to do a dog obedience class and puppy kindergarten.

Yeah, VNS placement isn't brain surgery like a lobectomy or resection would be. My seven year old is supposed to have a workup for one as our next step.

What kind of seizures is she having? I'm a little surprised at Tegretol as a first line choice. I'm gonna really ditto the suggestions to please go to Hopkins and see a peds neuro.

One of my DDs docs explained it like this- pretend the seizure goes down a path in the brain. The more you walk down a certain path, the deeper and more pronounced the path. You want to keep the electrical energy in your brain from firing in that abnormal way. The longer you go seizure free the better. I don't think I would try to induce seizures if you know something like food does it for her, but I'm not a clinician.
