  1. What kind of desks do you have and where did you get them? I'm looking for a desk for my 4th grader.
  2. I'm beginning to think through my classroom for next year. I'm turning my dining room into a classroom. I've been looking at the thread that has pics of your rooms and I'm wondering where the best place is to get all the teaching/decorations material that you have throughout your rooms. I'm on a strict budget so I thought I'd see where the best places were. TIA :001_smile:
  3. I'm also going to the Midwest Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati. It's about 30 minutes from where I live. I'm mostly just going to be about to see the curriculum.
  4. Thanks. He says he will miss his friends. I can't afford the local HS group. I'll have to try to make sure he knows we can try to still see some of his friends that live nearby.
  5. I felt terrible. He is in 4th grade this year and is in public school. I HSed him for K & 1st then put in in ps. He loves school and is very sociable. I just think it's best for me to bring him home and school him and his younger siblings. Any suggestions on how I help him transition. I won't do it until next year. I told him because I felt he will need time to adjust.
  6. I know this won't help near term but I have 8 kids and when my older kids were young I had a doctor tell me that when they get colds and stuff to not give them over the counter meds. Those are designed for children with allergies and not for the common cold etc. If you give them these then their body doesn't learn to fight off sickness on it's own. Their bodies will slowly build up thier own immunity to these things and begin to fight it off itself. This made so much sense to me. I don't give my kids all those over the counter med. Only tylenol or motrin to help a headache, high fever or pain until I can see a doctor. My kids now don't get sick very often and if they do it goes quickly. I know that doesn't help you now but maybe in the long run it will. I have heard also about how valuable vitamin D is. I would definitely do that during the winter months.
  7. As a former foster parent myself. I totally understand where you are. Good luck to you and hope all works out for you and your new growing family. Sending Hugs.
  8. I was thinking the same thing today. Just last summer I purged a whole bunch of my old HS stuff (including books) thinking I wouldn't need them and was cleaning house. Well now I need them as I'm going to HS again, UGH!
  9. I got a premade kit from one of the local learning stores. I'm not creative and need help with things like this. The kids enjoyed it though.
  10. YAY!!!!! I'm waiting on mine and can't wait to get it. Last time around HSing It helped me decide what curriculum I wanted to use and had amazing prices.
  11. I'm so sorry to hear this. Sounds like your son has been affected in some way. Hopefully not physically. So glad this guy was caught so things don't get worse. Hugs going your way :grouphug:
  12. Thanks for asking this question. I was wondering also. Welcome to one newbie from another :001_smile:
  13. Our Ymca is very strict on their swimming rules and they have a 4 yr old w/parents and a 4 yr without parents. That is the age I always start mine because I don't want to get in the water.
  14. Wow, this is so nice. Can you come do mine?
  15. Loved your pics. I also noticed a book on your blog right below your pics. Thanks for this. My son loves to draw and it is something I'm definitley going to check out for him. It seems to be a great way to incorprate his love for drawing and history (and art) Thanks :001_smile:
  16. Have you created a classroom or do you use the kitchen table. I will be HSing a 5th grader, 1st & K next year plus will have a pre-schooler. I was wondering if you could post pics of your classroom to give me ideas. This could be a fun thread :)
  17. I have to ask for help most of the time. Drives me crazy.
  18. IMO lonliness at home with a loving family is better than having kids around that are bullies and doing harm to his self esteem. I hope it all works out for you.
  19. I will be HSing again after a few years off. So I thought about going to the Cincinnati convention because I only live 30 minutes away. I had no idea they cost so much. Are they worth the money? I don't really plan on listening to the speakers but just want to look at the curriculum becasuse I know there is more out there than when I HSed in the past. Just wondering if you thought they were worth the money.
  20. I have a next year 5th grader and I will be working part time. I was wondering if you did the DVD's with the Math if it helped at all or do you just have them read it and do the problems. Are the DVD's helpful or are they just a waste of money (which I don't have extra that is why I work PT).
  21. I keep reading how people say Sonlight is so expensive. I just buy the main books I'll need all year for the curriculum which ends up only beigng a few and get all the rest from my library when I need them. Saves so much cost. Just a thought.
