  1. I have been looking at Zaner-Bloser myself. Maybe some Mom's on here have used it and can tell you if they liked it.
  2. We just sold our Yukon XL tonight to save money on gas mileage. I need to find a minivan that is roomy and seats 8 people. I'm looking for a used one (2002 - 2005). Any ideas what kinds of vans are roomy, good gas mileage that you've been happy with?
  3. Does anyone know what the differences will be in the 10th edition?
  4. Is there a new Phonics Pathways coming out? I'm going to get this but will wait if a new version is coming out. How did you find out about this?
  5. YAY!!!!!!!! Sounds like a great day. I love the flexibility of HSing also.
  6. In the past I've always done a K math workbook. In 1st grade I'm planning on doing CLE but they don't have a Math for K. Do I need to do K Math? Some of the programs don't seem to start until 1st grade. Why is this and should I just wait then? I'll already be HSing a 5th, & 1st grader (coming from PS) Thanks
  7. The answer keys are $32 for all 10 LU and the TM are $14 for all LU's. Why is that. I was going to place my order and noticed this. It didn't make sense to me and thought I'd ask those of you who use this first. I'm getting: Math 400 Math 100 LA 300 LA 100
  8. Great to hear. Thanks. I have decided to try it this year with my kids coming out of PS.
  9. I have narrowed it down to these 2 phonics programs for my remaining 3 kids. I have used ABEKA in the past but curious about PP. Can you compare these 2 programs for me? I was thinking PP because my 3 are at different levels and I could use different ETC workbooks so my 1st grader isn't in the same book as his little sister. He's coming from PS and wouldn't be ready for the ABEKA 1st grade book. I've done ABEKA phonics in the past and could get the "handbook for reading" and just do it with all the kids but not sure what workbook to do for them. Here's what I'll have next year. 1st - knows CVC words K - knows letters & sounds Pre-K - learning letters & sounds
  10. do I need to order some basic reading books to go along with it? If so, what do you recommend?
  11. It sounds like we are looking for the same kinds of curriculum. AAS seems to teacher intensive for me also. It sounds like a great program but with the cost and teacher time, it doesn't sound right for me.
  12. Some of my kids older kids used ABEKA in private school and when I brought them home to HS that's what I used and was comfortable with. We never had a problem with the grammar. I liked it. I have just read reviews where people said it was overkill which made me believe there were other programs out there that could do the same job without so many problems. That's why I'm giving CLE a try this next year. All the reviews talk about it being a thorough program without overkill. I want a program that is laid out for me while also being fairly independant. I need to know I'm covering everything :001_smile:. As far as spelling goes, it's just kind of blah. For years I used ACSI spelling and then I saw A Reason for Spelling and liked how with each word list it gave different ways to learn the words that looked more fun for my kids. I think it's more multisensory than some others. BTW, next year I will be HSing a 5th grader as well as K, 1st & Pre-school. I HSed my 4 older kids at different times which is where I used ABEKA. We did PS for a few years because I needed to take a break and am pulling them out of PS next year. I HS my 5th grader in K & 1st. Just to give you a little background.
  13. I'm using CLE for my 1st & 5th grader next year but need something for a K. I read Horizons it's not too good in the long run as far as mental math and stuff but what about for a Kindergartener. I just want something workbook style for a K that insn't too costly. Thanks.
  14. I have used ABEKA in the past and liked it. I didn't like their Spelling though. I'm going to try to do CLE this year because of some of the reviews. It sounds like a good, solid, thorough program without overkill like ABEKA. I think I'm going to try their spelling but if I don't like it I'm going back to "All About Spelling" which is what I used when my kids did ABEKA. I'm very interested in what people say and will be following this thread. I will say though that the kids that did ABEKA have done well when they went on to PS and then to college.
  15. My Yukon gets 12 - 15mpg. Now if I can get someone to buy it. With gas prices this high I don't have high hopes. I absolutley love it but we need to get better gas mileage.
  16. What kind do you have and what is the gas mileage? I'm trying to decide if it's worth my while to trade in my Yukon for a minivan to get better gas mileage.
  17. About how many spelling words per lesson? I too was wondering if the spelling was enough or should we supplement with another spelling program?
