  1. They definitely need more cards that just include a simple greeting and people can write in more if they wish. Sometimes you just want to wish someone a Happy whatever and leave it at that. :grouphug: for your near break-down.
  2. He ripped off The Incredibles! It sounds like he saw that movie the night before and composed his speech on the way over. Anyone can give a speech like that, not everyone can be motivating and inspiring.
  3. Yes, you're right. I read it too fast as I thought she was saying that apparently the KLA are the good guys according to the author, meaning that was the OP's conclusion after reading the book. It didn't occur to me that she would be posting a warning about a book she never read. :glare:
  4. Interesting... I deleted a lot of what I'd written about the conflicts due to not having read the book. I didn't want to be insensitive to the OP who had read the book and felt upset by it. I'm definitely interested to know now whether the OP has read it.
  5. I wonder if your putting ethnic cleansing in quotes speaks to your bias. I'm sure the book in question shows a bias, but if it's written as a memoir/first-person account that seems reasonable to me. If you are worried that Americans will read that one book and forever be biased against Serbs then I understand your concern. It is always important to read from more than one source about anything. I agree this is highly controversial, especially to those who live/lived in the region.
  6. I was disappointed to see that, too. Better to realize it now than to risk something happening during the race though.
  7. I'm definitely rooting for I'll Have Another to win the triple crown. There's a Detroit connection too as the owner is from Windsor, Ontario and is a huge Detroit Red Wings fan and the horse's trainer is from Dearborn. For me, that's all the more reason to hope he (he being the horse!) wins it.
  8. You may have already read these with your kids, but, just in case, I wanted to say that the books in the Brilliant Brits series on Henry VIII and Elizabeth I are fun.
  9. I read The Six Wives of Henry VIII, by Antonia Fraser. I know Alison Weir has one by that title too, but I haven't read it yet. I see a PP recommends David Starkey's Six Wives so maybe I'll have to try that one too, just to compare them all.
  10. For the most part, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose, but if this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, then going to Paris is a must.
  11. :thumbup1::thumbup1: Ok, we saw it today and we both (my mom and I) really enjoyed it and were so glad we went to see it in the cinema. How can you not love Judi Dench and Maggie Smith?
  12. :grouphug: I actually don't think things sound terribly worrisome, but it's so hard to not know for sure. Hang in there, I'm sure you'll have better info at your next appt. that will be more reassuring.
  13. Oh, please. I think there is plenty of masculinity out there to go around. Unless we're talking about a Lorena Bobbitt situation, I think the menfolk are going to be just fine.
  14. Not yet. My mom and I plan to go see it this weekend. It looks really good! I'm pretty psyched about it:001_smile:
  15. I answered B, but what I really think you should do is buy a few 2-liters and hide the cans. If you know they like soda it seems polite to have some on hand, but there's no need to use your more expensive stash.
  16. It's been the government's plan all along. They want to take away our bullwhips and give us free cell phones.
  17. :iagree::iagree::iagree: Absolutely. It's also sad to see "repair the relationship" advice treated with derision, like it's a load of nonsense. I'm glad that it's not the case for the OP.
  18. I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Region-Multi-Player-110-220/dp/B004SBHSZ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337877555&sr=8-1 It's $50 and it plays all region dvds. The first thing we tried out in it was our Horrible Histories set! We mostly use it for French dvds, since a lot of French tv shows and movies don't make it to region 1 format.
  19. Oh, I agree!! There was also a hilarious comment in favor of kids getting picked on at school because apparently it will prevent the kid from going crazy Charlie Sheen style!!
  20. Her replies were awful. When someone pointed out that the homeschoolers in her limited experience were more likely the exceptions she said that the blog was about her opinion of homeschoolers and that anything that didn't line up with her opinion was an exception!
  21. Yes! I've told my DS about that one so he won't fall for it.
  22. It sounds like he would have really enjoyed the book if he'd written it. As it happens, he didn't.
  23.:lol::lol: That's so bad (but in a good way)! I guess that's one way to get a kid to walk a mile. :tongue_smilie:
