I do think you all are right about the pedestals. The repairman and I were talking about the shock being broken on my machine also when he brought the pedestals up. He mentioned the unstability of the machine and also mentioned that they move a whole lot more which can damage things. With the regular soap, there is some ingredient in it that deteriorates a certain part in the machine that is really expensive to fix (he said that it is usually cheaper to buy a new machine than pay to fix the problem) I think it might have been the bearings.

I had the Frigidaire front loader that has a stackable dryer. The washer drum quit spinning after 3 1/2 years. It would have cost $270 to fix and a new one was $550 delivered and installed. The repairman said it was just a fluke thing that went wrong with mine. My hubby said to just get a new one. But, he (the repairman) did say, don't ever buy the pedestal and sounded pretty adamant about that. I didn't ask him why though. The other thing he said was to only use the soap made for frontloaders and to only use 1-2 Tablespoons of that at the most. The other kind leads to having problems and repair work done. He said what it affects, but I don't remember at the moment. I don't mind spending the money for good HE soap since I only use such a small amount now. Hope that helps someone save some repair costs.

Preparedness/Food Storage (NYT article)
tlcmom replied to Plaid Dad's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Talk to your doctor about this. Most doctors have samples of many prescriptions. We are self employed and my prescription would cost over $100 a month, and we have a tight budget. My doctor knows this and gives me samples whenever he can. I usually only have to buy 3 months of a years supply. Maybe your doctor would have some insulin samples you could have. it would be worth asking. -
How does one get involved with 4-H?
tlcmom replied to mommaduck's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You just contact your local 4H office. Find out what your children would be interested in doing, ask for the leaders name, and then YOU call THEM. In our area so many people have had there names taken down and were told someone would call them, and nobody ever does. You have to take the initiative and call the leaders. The other thing you can do is sign up for the class to be a leader. You can just be a leader for your family. My daughter is in a goat and a rabbit group and does those projects through them. Then I signed up to be a leader and she does everything through me. She wanted to do a lot and I didn't want to be out every night. She does sewing, photography, canning, etc through our family group. -
Does anyone have a child doing shooting sports in 4-H?
tlcmom replied to CLHCO's topic in General Education Discussion Board
He has been the county champion in both for the last three years. I would talk to the leader about what type and brand to get. They have a lot of knowledge that they can share. In our area the leaders have to have special training to be a shooting leader. Unfortunately it is true, some kids have much better equipment than others. I would try and find a used bow. You might try looking at Pawn shops, they usually have a lot in there. That is where my son's bow came from. Just make sure you know what you are looking for ahead of time. -
Homeschool teens that work

and I think applies to all, whether they homeschool or not. The only time it is different is when the employee is your own child. -

Could someone tell me what she charges for shipping? I looked all over her site and didn't see anything about the shipping costs. I am considering trying them after hearing all your wonderful feedback. -
What do the balls by our names represent?

in smaller letters to the right, then underneath it there are two positives with comments. Do the points mean something else? Thanks for helping. -
What do the balls by our names represent?
tlcmom replied to tlcmom's topic in Introductions & Test Posting
I see you have a green ball too, since you are online, kinda like a traffic light. And since I have never given a rep point I will give you one since you were the first to answer my dumb question!:001_smile: -
I just now noticed them! I was just trying to figure out the rep points thing, when I noticed a green ball by my name. Since I brought up rep points. It says I have 12, but only two have a comment. How do I know if the other 10 are positive or negative? thanks!

instant hot water taps for your sink. It is my favorite kitchen tool (appliance?). I use it so many times during the day. It is so nice not to have to remember to turn on the burner and more importantly I don't have to remember to turn off the burner!:001_smile: My dh just has a single cup coffee filter and makes one cup at a time.

A funny story about my grandmother.
tlcmom replied to Crissy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
and have the funeral while she is still here. I always have thought that the people who would actually enjoy the funeral aren't able to enjoy it since they are the dead ones. Your grandma would love being able to enjoy seeing all the people who cared about her. :grouphug: (and that way she could help make the salad!). I say go for it! -
It is a white gold band with three small diamonds in it. We told her that there were three to represent that God loves her, dad loves her and I love her. We got it at Fred Meyer Jewelers. They guarantee their diamonds for life against lost. She wears it as an outward sign that she is committed to God and will wait until marriage to have sex like He asks of us. She also had decided to wait to date until she is older and ready for a serious relationship leading towards marriage and she feels that since she has a ring on her finger it helps deter boys from being interested in her. I hope you find exactly what you are looking for!

It is snowing and sticking at my house!!
tlcmom posted a topic in General Education Discussion Board
It is spring break here in Oregon. We live close to Salem, and it is snowing and sticking. This is totally crazy weather. Some winters we don't even get snow at all, and for it to stick at the end of March is not normal. I just wish my bulbs were in bloom to take a picture of them in the snow. (my dh planted them really deep, so they are slow.) -
I have a love/hate relationship with 4H records. They teach the kids so much, but it is kind of like taxes and not fun! Luckily, ours are due in Sept. We usually start our school year with 4H records as the only project. I can't imagine them being due this time of year with having to do taxes for us and the business. Are your kids old enough that they can start taking responsibility for spending one day a month on them on their own? I am so glad you posted this. I am going to make my daughter work on hers today and get them up to date. thanks!

Who has lost weight while using Sparkpeople?
tlcmom replied to BamaTanya's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Congratulations to everyone that has been so successful on losing weight. Could someone please explain exactly how you use sparkpeople? I have gone to the site and looked at it, but I am not sure what to do. Is it just a place to record your food/exercise, and boards to read? Does it give you an actual diet plan to follow? I would love if several of you would share how it has helped you lose the weight. I have so much to lose that I feel totally hopeless. :ack2: TIA for taking the time to respond -

Which Settlers of Catan expansion set is best?
tlcmom replied to tlcmom's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We have the 3rd edition of S of C, is it compatible with the new edition expansion packs? My son has had this for over a year and we just opened it last week. I would hate to have to buy the original game again to use the expansions. I didn't know they had upgraded until I looked at the exp. packs last nigh. Uggh:glare:
