  1. Our house has siding, but it is a sage green with burgundy shutters/doors. I really like it.
  2. Haha! No one in my family of origin swears, but one time when I was young, I was in the backseat and my mom and my grandma were in the front. I had been listening to my Walkman and had stopped to switch the tape. While I was switching the tape, I heard my grandmother say "if she would just quit b*tchin' about it" I was scandalized!!! I don't care really about soft swears and occassionally use the harder ones myself. I wouldn't appreciate someone using the harder ones in front of my kids, but I am not at all offended by it personally. I use crap and sucks a lot and when it was repeated by my (at the time) 3 yo, I didn't really like the was it sounded coming from her. So I tried to cut back.
  3. I saw a thing on fb the other day- it was a picture of supermarket shelves, the price tag said it was water, but there were bottles of wine there instead. The caption was something like "guess Jesus has been here!"
  4. We buy the movie theater size candy. Before movie nights with the kids and if I am by myself I get one to hide from the kids!
  5. I only read the first few responses. Obviously, you don't HAVE to let him have it just because of your inlaws. My MIL is always trying to push things on me and I just smile and say "thank you, I will keep that in mind." Then I completely ignore her. That said, I don't have objections to kids using iPads or other tablets. My iPad is in a Griffin Survivor case and has survived many, many accidents. I would download a few kid apps and use it when you need quiet. My kids are never "on the Internet" as in surfing it, but they do use things that require Internet like Netflix and BrainPop. They LOVE to take pics and videos of each other (they are 4 and 7) and they are a lifesaver in the car! Search Pinterest for lists of best science apps or best reading apps or whatever. You'll find tons of stuff.
  6. I don't really k ow how people perceive me now, but as a high schooler, I was often offered a kids menu and when I started teaching, I was asked out by more than one high school kid! (At different schools....I was the cheer leading sponsor for the middle school, so it was usually at away games) I would have tried to turn them down gently, but there was always a cheerleader near enough to start screeching "she's a teacher!"
  7. Well, I never go without my kids but that is because I am always with my kids. If I don't have my kids, I'm going somewhere more fun than the park! But I am often the only one there with my kids. Maybe 1/3 of the time. We live in a small town. There is usually people sitting in cars in the parking lot. I assume they are eating lunch or enjoying the sunshine. I think some people who have jobs driving a lot or something stop there to go to the bathroom.
  8. The "funny" parts were kindof funny. The "serious" part was too cheesy. I thought it also poked fun at the moms when the kid with a little chocolate on his face, looked like he was totally smeared with chocolate when the mom goggles were on. And the kid standing on top of the tiny slide and the mom goggles make it look like she's on top of a skyscraper. I thought that was funny because I can totally relate to that! If this was shown at my church, I would roll my eyes and move on. I don't think it is worth getting upset about, but neither do I find it worthwhile.
  9. My husband just attended a conference on safety. Things like being in compliance with safety standards and getting people to follow the procedures in place. He said one of the presenters was talking about training vs, education. The presenter said "do you want your daughter to attend a sex education class or a sex training class?" I thought that was funny given the topic.
  10. There are a lot of health related reasons to prevent pregnancy. I wanted more kids, but complications with my last made it a bad idea to get pregnant again.
  11. I know. But hopefully, they will be a little more self sufficient then! They can fix their own sandwiches. I felt a little despair at the thread about a 16 year old that wouldn't fix her own food though!
  12. Hmmm. Switching the main meal to lunch is an interesting thought. I'll bring that up with dh.
  13. I am soooo sick of listening to kids whine about being hungry. Because it is constant. We were out of the house this morning and the kids (4 and 7) were whining about being hungry. I told them they were out of luck until we got home. When we got home, they had lunch- a pbj, half a can of tropical fruit salad, and a cheese stick. 30 minutes later they wanted yogurt. 15 minutes after that, they wanted another one, 15 minutes after THAT, they wanted another one but I told them that two yogurts was enough for one day. So they ate a pear. One each. Then they each had a bowl of graham crackers and some fruit snacks they found left over from snacks at soccer games over the weekend. Then they had Nutella sandwiches. They are STILL whining about being hungry. I am soooooo sick of it. I want to fix something that can just be grabbed/fixed by themselves that will keep them satisfied for longer than an hour. They are pretty high energy kids, but this afternoon they weren't doing anything particularly energy burning. Weight is not something I am concerned about with them. They are also incredibly picky and rarely eat much of whatever I fix for dinner. But the whining isn't after the dinner they don't eat. It's all.day.long. Ideas?
  14. I totally agree that they should both be covered. Here's my insurance insanity. I was having a C-section and wanted my tubes tied at the same time. They wouldn't cover it because it would be a "secondary procedure". They would totally cover it if I wanted to heal from my C/S, then go back for the tubal later, because then it would be the primary procedure! That is insanity. it would cost them WAY more to do it that way. Our insurance would have covered a V for dh, but only after the deductible. Since I had already met my deductible with the pregnancy, I just went ahead and had them do it while they had me cut open anyway. There was NO WAY I would have chosen the tubal if I hadn't already been having surgery. I don't know what it ended up costing, because we just rolled all the bills for the hospital into one monthly payment. As far as the tubal being preventative- the tubal prevents one woman from getting pregnant. Depending on the guy, the V could prevent a lot of women from being pregnant! LOL!
  15. I like milk duds! That's what I always pick at the theater.
  16. I would keep the extra pieces in a "stuff" box that the kids use for their creative inventions. So, you might find someone to give them to who would use them for something like that. It would be easiest to throw them away.
  17. I would disagree with this. I think the school board is supposed to be in charge of the schools.
  18. I agree with TechWife. Why would there be any kind of relationship? There is no relationship between school boards and private school kids.
  19. This was too good for just a "Like". Not just as a response to SKL but as a general commentary on our society.
  20. My house probably screams homeschooler. The school room has a large table with a map mod podged to the top. One time it was moved to the dining room so we had lots of table space for a specific event. I had a friend come over before it got moved back. She still teases me about that! (Good naturedly) I don't think we are ever identified as homeschoolers outside of the house during non-school hours. I have had people ask when we are out and about during the day.
  21. LOL. My 4 yo would ask for more food within an hour!
  22. I think a lot of us interpret your posts to be the ones that are nitpicking.
  23. And a "serving" of Cheerios is only about 1/3 of what a kid will actually eat.
  24. I understand. You should splurge though! Those shoes will last longer for you than shoes will for your kids! I know that one reason it is easier to spend money on my kids clothes/shoes is because they are so gosh darn adorable! They look cute in everything. Dh will spend any amount on anything that I try on in the dressing room that doesn't leave me in tears. But because of the tear thing, I don't like to go very often. In one of the clothes threads, someone mentioned these Nike golf shorts and I was intrigued, so I checked them out online. I wanted to go to the store (dick's sporting goods had them) and try them on before I bought them though. I was talking to my mom on the phone and she told me to just order them already- I could always send them back. So I measured myself. I was an XXL in the waist and a M in the hips. I have issues with shirts too. I wear a 36F (hopefully I will shrink a little when I stop nursing) but when a shirt stretches all the way around the bOOks- there is way too much excess fabric in the shoulders. Ugh. I hate it. But everything fits the kids. And looks so cute. The last time I took dd shopping for tennis shoes, there was a pair she loved and a pair I loved. I bought both. Because she is the only little girl I am every going to have.
