  3. The list has been updated. We have one space open and 3 international families :)
  4. It's only 85 cents more to send a postcard international and there only seem to be one or two people this would be needed for. Are you ok sending all of yours international?
  5. I'm so excited there is interest in this and we are already half full!
  6. It looks like to send an international postcard is 80 cents more for us in the U.S. I would be ok with that. Are you ok with having to send all of your international to the U.S?
  7. **Cross posted on the general education board** A few years ago I participated in a great postcard swap on a different homeschooling board. My son loved receiving them in the mail and I thought I'd see if there was any interest to do one here this summer. It would be very simple. There would be a limit of 25 families. I would generate the list of names and addresses and send it out through private message. Your family would be required to send one postcard to each family on the list by August 1st (A lot of us seem to start our school year then). Each postcard would need to have a picture/landmark from the sate you live in and some interesting facts/message that you can hand write or print and glue to the back. Postage for postcards is 35 cents and postcards themselves usually can be found for 50 cents or co (our Walmart has tons with state images). It doesn't matter if there are multiples from the same states, because each will be personal from the sender. I figure if we do this as a summer activity it could lead to some fun summer learning rabbit trails for the receivers and allow senders to work on some research and writing skills. Since there would be 25 going out, kids would not need to be required to hand write each one. This is definitely a family activity. Once the list is closed, either by hitting the 25 families or by May 20th - whichever comes first, families will have from June 1st - August 1st to get these mailed out. PLEASE if you sign up and are committed on the final list DO NOT FLAKE! It really just hurts the kids involved. 1. HeatherL 2. Rach 3. athomeontheprarie 4. Pink and Green Mom 5. My3Munchkins 6. 9. Could you PM me with which community college your children have gone to? We are still a few years off, but I just started looking into those classes for my son. We are in the East Valley.
  10. Also Wildlife World Zoo is out near you too. http://www.wildlifeworld.com/
  11. Challenger Space Center is in Peoria (near where you'll be) http://www.azchallenger.org/
  12. I promise I'm not stalking you!! I just looked on Amazon at the Hebrew books you are using and I really like them. I've been using "Z'man Likro: Time to Read Hebrew Volume One" to teach my son Hebrew since we are religious school drop outs (well at least for now, it's 45 each way and he would have started going 2 times a week this year and it was just too hard on our schedule), so I'm teaching him at home and doing Hebrew in our foreign language spot instead of Spanish this year. I wasn't sure where to go after the basics of learning to read and write the alphabet. There is some vocab in our book which is nice, but it's just some basics here and there. I think I will definitely look at your titles for next year. Thank you for sharing!
  13. Thank you so much for asking this. This is exactly the info I was searching for today. I have been looking at the classes and was about to buy a semester from someone, but I was curious how my Jewish son would fit into the classes and how much Christian content there was in the classes. I saw the reply to your post and it looks like we will have to be skipping Landry's. :(
  14. We are new to the idea of online classes for schooling and I have been reading great reviews of Landry. I love their list of classes and think I finally understand how buying the credits works. The two spring specials I have seen today have included one free generic online semester for 2016-2017 to only be used by a new family. Did anyone purchase one of these specials who would be willing to gift this credit to us? I am just worried about spending a lot of money on an online class, since my son has never done them before, and it being a bust and a waste of money. I am hoping a special pops up for just a single semester credit, but I don't know if that will happen. Thank you!!

  16. It says on the FAQ page that once you purchase the class you get an e-mail to complete the enrollment process. It is there where you pick your start date and you have 1 year from the time of purchase to begin the class.
  17. Oh, thank you for letting me know. I didn't realize that. I just listened to the first 20 minutes or so of the sample book discussion and hadn't heard anything, so I assumed they were secular.
  18. ** I also posted this on the general k-8 board, but thought some people who only hang out on this board could help too :) ** I am looking for an online writing class for my will be 5th grader for next year. Most I am finding are Christian based and since we are Jewish I'm concerned topics may not follow what my son learns at home. I was excited about the WTMA intro to expository writing, but we are in pacific time and over the summer the class is either at 6am or 7am our time and about the same on the days that work for us next school year :( I'm thinking about trying the writing component in addition to the literature class at the center for lit, but there are no writing class samples for the 5th grade level (only higher classes), so I'm not sure what to expect. Does anyone else have any other ideas? I would not be totally against a Christian group, but only if Christian content is not heavily used in the course. (such as virtual homeschool gorup which says which classes have a strong Christian element to them). Thank you!

  20. I was just coming to post asking for recommendations for my will be 5th grader for an online writing class. I pretty good with most acronyms, but you guys are throwing me here. What is CTY and WHA? Also does anyone have any other suggestions for a secular writing class? I am considering WTMA prep for expos writing because we have never used WWE before or the writing class associated with the reading class by center for lit.
  21. Is you son in a Basis school? It sounds as though he is. I have posted on a couple of other boards asking for reviews of the school. My son got a spot at the Mesa one for 4th next year and we are still debating him going or not.
  22. You are going in two months, right? You can make fast pass selections at 60 days from your check in date for the length of your trip. That is coming up soon and some rides such as seven dwarfs and the anna and elsa meet and greet run out of fastpasses quickly once the window opens Also, others who will be there at the same time as you have been making dining reservations for 4 months already, you need to jump on soon and make your dining reservations.
  23. I really like this part. I am the mom to sons (not old enough for this talk yet), but it does worry me that they can put themselves in positions that can cause trouble without intending to. (I'm talking about sex in the gray area, when they are too immature to read between lines or interpret what's not being said - I DO NOT mean forcing themselves on someone blatantly saying "NO!")
