I’m planning for the fall, and a friend has kindly offered to bring some school supplies down (She is driving, not flying.). Are the directions for the chicken mummy in the SOTW Activity Book okay as-written? I recall reading something on this forum about using washing soda instead of baking soda. The latter is available in our area, the former is not, but I don’t want to ask someone to purchase unnecessary items.

Thank you!!!

You are welcome. Sorry I couldn't help more.

We had this on our wall in my childhood home. Years ago, interior design parties were faddish; knick-knacks, small shelves, pictures, etc. were on offer. I'm pretty sure my mother purchased hers at a party (or maybe my grandmother did). I'm fairly confident it was half of a set...I think the other pic was of a country road scene, and it had warmer tones. I know this isn't much help, but thank you for the memory. :001_smile: The artist or title is on a little metal label on the frame...maybe the blog owner can tell you.

Thank you both! To be honest, I was a bit surprised as the house isn’t even on the market. My former RE agent phoned last week, and said someone phoned about it. I gave permission for him to show the place, and the potential buyer has spoken to me twice since then. He asked about financing, and I said I’d consider it. Then he asked me about terms…and I had absolutely no idea what to tell him. I said I’d give it a bit of thought and get back to him after the weekend. This is the first house I have ever tried to sell, and I have no idea what I am doing. A lawyer would definitely be imperative, if things move further.

Toppings for fish tacos?
yucabird replied to Dianne-TX's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Here they are usually served on corn tortillas with mayo and pico de gallo or another salsa. Tamarindo sauce is also popular. -
Has anyone done a financing-by-owner deal? I have a potential buyer for my house in the States. He has asked about financing, and I am okay with offering it, provided his credit check and work references are solid. What are other ways to ensure someone doesn’t cause headaches down the road? If his record is okay, where do I go from there? What percentage for down payment? How do I decide terms on the remainder? Should I hold onto the title until final payment is made (Is that the norm, or not?)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Full immersion in Spanish- which country?
yucabird replied to LydiaG's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Is your husband a native speaker? If so then--like a pp wrote--have him speak Spanish to your kids. Guatemala? Classes and living costs are very reasonable and the climate is pleasant. I wish to improve my Spanish, so I'm taking a class in Antigua this summer. My girls picked up the language in a Spanish-speaking preschool. I know homeschooled expat kids, and there can be a language struggle. I am sure it is a result of less of an opportunity for Spanish-language interaction. -
Heather, do you know if the Legos and other materials are easy-to-find? We can obtain basic Lego sets here, but that is about it.

Is Seussical the Musical worth the money/time?
yucabird replied to Alicia64's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I noticed your avatar. You aren’t in PDC, are you? If so, my 4.5 yo and I saw it with a few other moms/kiddos last night. The boys gave it mixed reviews; the girls were more enthusiastic. (My daughter enjoyed it, but she is that type of kid.) The production was in Spanish, and the edginess of the words was probably lost in translation. Still, the young actors obviously worked hard and took the production seriously. I would say it is worth seeing! -
Taco debate

Nope, no hard tacos, or taco salads, or chimigangas :glare:. And they call this Mexico? ;) -
Great ideas! I'm off to the grocery. Thank you!!!

A friend just had a baby, and I would like to make some freezer meals to ease her workload. She has a husband and two other children. Any suggestions besides lasagna?

I love JetBlue, a bargain airline which flies to Cancun http://www.jetblue.com/ . Their vacation packages are also worth a check (I stayed in Orlando for four nights last year for $100 more than the cost of a flight.) I detest Spirit Airlines (AWFUL customer service!!!), but it may be worth a look.... Right now, along the Riviera Maya (Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum), I am fairly confident good hotel deals can be had (There is a mass exodus after Easter holiday....). I have had good hotel luck with Hotwire and "name your price" Priceline.

You may find Deconstructing Penguins to be inspiring; I did, but my girls are still a little young for such a club. http://www.amazon.com/Deconstructing-Penguins-Parents-Kids-Reading/dp/0812970284/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334531462&sr=8-1

We love the following from Tomie dePaola: http://www.amazon.com/Tomie-DePaolas-Book-Bible-Stories/dp/0698119231/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1331942693&sr=8-10#reader_0698119231 -

My daughter didn't enjoy the Bob Books until she became a better reader (At that stage we used them for fluency.). She loved Sam. -
For Kindergarten: SM Readers or LoF?
yucabird replied to BoZeeCo's Mom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Essentials and Earlybird are different series; I'm not sure if the topics would correspond. We used Earlybird, and my daughter was happy with it, but many on this forum much prefer Essentials. For Earlybird you really don't need the teacher guide because instructions (for the teacher) are at the bottom of every page. The readers are cute and my girls enjoy them (They are short mathematical "takes" on traditional stories and poems.), but they are not a necessary purchase. I can't comment on LOF, but to our kinder program I added Miquon and various workbooks. If you do a search in this forum on kindergarten math or Singapore you'll get a lot of info. :001_smile: -
:iagree: On more than one occasion, my husband and I have had individuals with whom we are vaguely acquainted come to the door asking for money for medical treatment. We let the person know we will pay, but they must visit OUR doctor for a diagnosis. We then let the doc know that X may be visiting, and we will foot the bill. We have not had anyone take us up on this. We feel for the many families who cannot afford medical treatment, but we do not appreciate being scammed.
