  1. I'm talking about an actual job. This is not about which job you do or don't have the credentials to perform, but one that even if you could, you'd be unhappy doing that job? What about a job that would make you happy? Whatever happiness or unhappiness with a job means to you. Since I imagine many of you would say one of the other you can't say "being a mom" or "being a millionaire" :D
  2. Are we supposed to review items we've used, even if we didn't purchase them through Peace Hill Press?
  3. Great topic. Nothing to add but I'll be interested to hear what everyone can add. :)
  4. I used to watch those Court TV shows, like Judge Mathis and stuff. The OP reminded me of the types of "What happened was..." tales you'd hear from the plaintiffs all the time.
  5. I don't know, I'd love the chance to test the theory. I like the expression: While money can't buy happiness, it can help you suffer comfortably.
  6. Update: I spoke to her in the lab and asked for my pencil back on Tuesday Feb 2. She was like, "Oh yeah, I still have it. I was using it just the other day, hold on" then she looked through her bag but couldn't find it on her person. She said "I definitely didn't lose it, I was literally using it just yesterday" and I asked her to bring it next time. She said "sure, yeah." I commented that it might seem silly, but its my favorite pencil and I actually want it back. She says: "Girl please, it is a nice pencil, I'd be getting mine back if I were you. I'll bring back for sure." That was Feb 2. I haven't seen her since then! I think that the pencil is lost to me. :(.
  7. I do not sit on public toilets. Ever. I cover the seat with paper towels/tissue and still do not sit down. I do not sit on toilets in other peoples homes either. The only time I might sit on a physically covered toilet is when I am sick--ie my head is swimming and I can't reliably hold my balance. Even though I never come in physical contact with the toilet, I always wipe down the public toilet after I use it.
  8. My family has celebrated the Super Bowl for about 40 years.
  9. I would use the clock-face method for handwriting that is taught in WRTR + Ultimate Phonics for phonetic reading. I would do vocabulary work in two streams--commonly misused words + root-based lessons. Since he does public speaking then I would get a list of speeches and listen to them with him and talk about how they are good, what could make them better etc. I would let speeches be the vehicle through which we approach writing.
  10. I can't believe that I missed this question, I love The Reading Lesson and I have mentioned many times over that I love talking about it. Now, depending on where you are at in the book, changes what I'd recommend. If you're in L1-L5 then you can use almost any CVC readers. Commercially there are Bob Books or Now I'm Reading, but I prefer the NIR books--they are colorful and attractive. If you want to grab some things for free that you can print or use on your tablet as PDFs, then check out this blog. It has a ton of free readers listed under Beginning Phonics Practice.
  11. Threaten to lock them up in a fungeon?
  12. I have a genuine (and very strong) attraction to and preference for purple writing instruments.
  13. Hi again NerdyBird! Nice to have you back!!! :seeya:
  14. You can take an approach that isn't rooted in the weakness. Try an audio based/video based course. Or interactive Software. There is also Sign Language -- all the linguistic benefits but minimal reading required.
  15. I find it helpful to repeat something that a person has said to me. Then maybe summarize what they said in sentence form, under my breath.
  16. Do you have a pet? Perhaps there is something you're supposed to do on behalf of the pet. Is your show on? You know the episode that you wanted to see?
  17. I have a bag of library books that are due. Now they are over due. I keep forgetting to bring them with me. Drat.
  18. Are the bills paid up? Are you sure? Did you go grocery shopping lately--maybe you missed an item.
  19. Where are the kids at? Where are the kids supposed to be at? What about DH? Which appliances were turned on this morning? Who did you promise to call this afternoon? Are you in the middle of applying to anything on behalf of a kid/spouse--is a form due?
  20. No, not yet. I haven't seen her. I saw her Tues-Friday last week, so I should see her tomorrow or Wednesday?
  21. I'm trying to find books on Northern Irish culture and History, historically anything that speaks about civil wars/tensions within the last 100 years up to today, specifically I'd like to learn more about the history of The IRA, The Troubles, etc. I have asked my library for On Anothers Man Wound and Liam Lynch: The Real Chief but its going to take a while since they are coming through ILL. Is there a website or documentary that you can recommend for an introductory overview of history? Some countries have their national curriculum online in PDF form, but I can't find anything from N. Ireland. I know we have users from the UK on this board. Can anyone help me out on the modern culture part?
  22. Thanks, everyone. Like I said, my kid sister wants me to coach her team, but I wont do it if its unfair to the other players.
  23. I tutor PS highschool students and many of them say that they don't have textbooks but from what I can tell they are not issued textbooks. The teacher is teaching on a smart board, from a textbook and the students get the correlating worksheets. The students may have eBooks, school issued tablets etc.
  24. Have you ever done the volunteer coaching for team sports in your area? I never played organized sports when I was a little girl and I'm currently (very) out of shape. I was wondering if there was a basic fitness/knowledge test that you have to pass to be able to coach at the city level? I can't find any information on the city website and being Sunday the office is closed. Next year is the last year that my younger sister will be able to play city soccer and she's always wanted me to coach her team. I'm willing to lose weight, get in a shape and formally study the game in order to coach next season. But how big of a disadvantage is it to kids to have a coach who has never played before? The girls will be 13+ next year, I don't want to coach if my inexperience is likely to put a big damper on it for the other girls.
  25. Reason # 9,871 why I love this board: You guys get it. I'm all teary eyed now.
