  1. She also likes Washi tape and the return address stamp is a really good idea along with the hand letter book. I will have to look into the pin broidery. Thank you.
  2. She does mail them and has an address book/journal that she uses. She doesn't do them for charities. She likes to make all kinds of things from paper in addition to cards which is partly why I am looking for good punches and she has made a couple of envelopes but they didn't turn out well enough to send through the post office, so I will look for a template. Thanks for the ideas.
  3. Dd really enjoys making cards and I have thought about getting some hand punches and some scallop scissors that are good quality for her for Christmas. She has a pair of scissors that do scallops but they don't work well. I would also like a nice set of hand punches, but really don't have room for something like a cricut machine. I was thinking a basic set of shapes would be nice but what I am finding looks to be not decent quality. I am open to other suggestions for ideas as well. We have stickers, clear stamps with ink, card stock, glue sticks, markers, pens, and colored pencils Can anyone help me out here?
  4. If you are anywhere near the furniture outlets in North Carolina that is where we found many years ago. We were several hours away and made a weekend of it and found a large dinning room set and a few other pieces as well.
  5. Dd was sick over the weekend and the trunk or treat we were planning to take her to is likely to get rained out tonight. I am looking for some last minute ideas that we can maybe do at home that would be educational and fun. Maybe making candy or candy apples but would be open to other ideas too. Does anyone have some suggestions? Eta: It looks like some of the trunk or treat places are planning to move stuff inside locally...not sure how that will turn out but we might still be able to do that.
  6. I would seriously consider a backpacking hammock like an Eno instead that could be eyebolted into the wall. They are less expensive and there would be no bulky frame, I also figure they have been pretty well designed since people hike things like the Appalachian Trail with them.
  7. A little bit different because it is 2 songs not 1 would be King of the Road by Roger Miller and Queen of the House by Jody Miller and no the singers are not and were not married.
  8. We have 1 in our home that I haven't used much. This spring we bought and RV for staying in while dh works away from home. It has an old 1/2 time microwave/convection oven. The half time wasn't impressive, the convection with some practice I have baked cookies, potatoes, muffins, frozen pizza and cake. I imagine the one that I have at home works better as far as shortening the time goes, but I have been happy that we have a reasonable way to bake things in the RV. I am likely to try more at home now.
  9. Mink oil, it does however darken the leather.
  10. We've been watching it since before the weekend. Mikes weather page is on facebook and he has been talking about it since last week. He is getting quite a following. He does hurricane stuff as a hobby and has lots of good information. Better than watching news stations IMO. Stay safe everyone that is in the path.
  11. I have already been warned to stay in the family oriented areas.
  12. https://www.texrenfest.com/themedweekends/ is the one we are talking about going to, so like this weekend it is Octoberfest, next weekend is more magical fairy type stuff. I am still not sure what weekend we are actually going.
  13. Thanks, I have not been to one before and I just wanted to make sure.
  14. I bought a knight costume for dd before realizing the weekends are all themed. We may not be able to make it to the weekend that would be reasonable for that costume. Especially for kids, would she be better off to go in street clothes or do people wear whatever costumes they have? By the way her knight costume is also going to be used for Halloween so it will still get used.
  15. So, I am supposed to be meeting my mom and brother in Salt Lake City to spend a week in Yellowstone. They are supposed to fly out of Atlanta Thursday night, I am flying from somewhere else not impacted by the hurricane. They are going to call and see if they can get an earlier flight on Thursday. They are far enough inland and south that they should not have a lot of damage and hopefully can make it to the airport (not sure how traffic will be.) What is the likelihood they will make it out and if they don't how long after the hurricane will it take for them to be able to get out?
  16. We stayed here before it was changed to Guy Harvey and really liked the beach location. https://guyharveyoutpost.com/lodging/beach-resorts/st-augustine-beach/ They were supposed to update it and I am not sure how much they charge now. Really nice views and some of the rooms can be connected. It is probably 15-20 minutes from the tourist area of St Augustine and they did have a bus that would take you to the tourist area, although that might have changed. There are not a lot of hotels directly on the beach there.
  17. We are headed to Yellowstone and will be flying to Salt Lake City. I am going to buy a cooler and plan to pack lunches. We will be there for a little over a week. I am trying to come up with ideas that will do well in a cooler or that will just travel well being bounced around in a car and doesn't take a lot of prep. I have come up with lunchmeat, cheese, nuts, celery, carrots, apples, tomatoes. Any other suggestions would be helpful.
  18. We are flying into Salt Lake City and driving to Yellowstone next week. We are prepared for cold and have a 4 wheel drive vehicle for a rental just in case. It looks like we could either take interstate all the way to Teton Village with maybe a stop at Lava Hot Springs or we could go up 89. I tend to like off the beaten path especially if it is particularly scenic, but would also enjoy the Hot Springs. I have done hot springs before but the family I am going with has not. We are staying in a couple of different place around Yellowstone, with the first stay in Teton Village. The night before we drive back to Salt Lake City we will be at least a 7 1/2 hour drive back to Salt Lake City so a lot further away. Anyone familiar with both that can give me a few tips. Also are there any other don't miss places along either route?
  19. If it is out of character, this is one of those times that showing grace towards your dh will go a long way for both you and him. My dh and I have both had many and various bad days over our 23 years of marriage. Forgive him even if it takes a day or 2.
  20. Hugs to you and your daughter. What a mess. I hope she can enjoy her dinner.
  21. One more thing, some groomers are hard on poodles. We have started to groom ours all the time instead of us doing it some times and having someone else do it sometimes. He got really sensitive about his feet probably because of either being nicked on his feet or else the groomers let the blades get too hot. It has been more than 2 years and he still doesn't like me to do his front feet but it isn't so much of a fight now.
  22. Love mine and will eventually get another one after this one is passed from old age. Hopefully a long time to go as he is only 8. He didn't really start to settle down until about 4. The only bad habits he has is getting into the trash or stealing food off the counter both almost always while we are gone. We have diligent not to leave stuff out that he can get to. We are getting a kong to freeze food in as a treat for when we leave to see if that helps. I bought a chuck it ball thrower and love for playing fetch. When he was younger it saved my arm and would eventually wear him out. He does have a health issue that is under control with medication. He didn't completely quit having accidents until about 9 months old.
  23. We have made more trips around 15 hours than I can count, with stopping during the daytime at rest areas for a nap without a problem. I also had a trailer broken into at a hotel that we stopped at for a much longer trip that looked fine. It was shortly after dd was born and we lost stuff like homemade quilts and other things dd had been given. They didn't take anything that would be really valuable other than for sentimental reasons.
