  1. If you have a cell phone and it is a place that you can get cell reception you can get a data plan added to your service and your phone acts like a modem. It isn't cheap, but Verizon and AT&T should both be able to tell you more.
  2. There are lots of guys who don't want anything to do with kids. All you have to do is look around at all the kids out there who don't have a father in their life. You haven't said if he has never wanted kids, I assume that you two discussed this before you got married.
  3. I have a problem with lying which this would fall into. I am not going to lie even when I disagree with the rules.
  4. Thank you all for your input. While going completely gf is not easy, it won't be a stretch for me since my dh already is and we have been cooking that way for several years now.
  5. Take a look at the Nikon L series cameras. They are generally around $100 and my mom and I both have one. I also have a DSLR, but I use the Nikon L series for general carrying around and using type of stuff and really like it.
  6. Whether it is an intolerance or celiac doesn't make a whole lot of difference to my dh because he gets sick as a dog if he gets any amount of it whatsoever. Either case the treatment is to not eat gluten at all. For my dh we will probably have her tested for celiac but if it doesn't come back positive that won't answer whether she is intolerant or not.
  7. My dh is an undiagnosed celiac. Yes, we are sure that he has it. My question is concerning our newbie that I am bfeeding. Does anyone have experience with gluten going through the milk and causing their baby to have painful gas? I eat limited gluten just due to ease of cooking, but do eat a small amount of it at times. It seems to be related to her problems, but it could also be milk, onions, beans, or who knows what else. We haven't been able to directly link gluten to the problem. I ate gluten twice in the last 3 days after not having any for 2 weeks and she had painful gas more than 24 hours after the second time and it is mostly at night.
  8. Are you saying that the shelters that get government money won't spend an insane amount of money on 1 particular animal, maybe not $6000 as was being discussed, but I am sure they would pay a fortune to save a an animal just because.
  9. I couldn't imagine asking someone to through a party for me or my child either one. I don't think you need any further explanation.
  10. I am sorry to hear about your dd. It is never easy when a child is sick. Do a little bit of research on the low glycemix index. They tested lots of food and how it raises your blood sugar levels. My dh and I have both been successful on this diet which sounds like would have to be a lifestyle for your daughter. We ate nothing but low GI foods in our diet which basically included meat, veggies, eggs, cheese, some low sugar fruits such as berries, and complex carbs (i.e. sweet potatoes, whole grain bread, brown rice). The complex carbs take longer to metabolize. Also one thing that we found while researching is that things like a regular potato if it is raw is low gi and the gi goes up the more it is cooked. We didn't eliminate carbs but we did only eat a serving per meal and then only the low gi carbs. The one sweet thing we are able to eat is peanut M&M's.
  11. The thing that gets me is a lot of these shelters get tax payer money through grants or other such things. If they were strictly private...make whatever rules you want. I absolutely love dogs. My last one was a Siberian Husky (bought from a breeder) that made it 15 years. He was very hard headed, shed a lot, thought anything other than dogs and humans were food, and had a bad tendency to run for hours any time he escaped. We worked with the dog every day for 15 years. We never gave up on him even though at times it wasn't easy. My dh and I loved that dog like he was our kid. He travelled all over the country with us and lived in SC, TX, VA, and AK. We didn't understand the problems with the breed, but once we had him we weren't going to abandon him. I am fairly sure we would be turned down at most shelters and possibly several breeders by the sounds of things on this post. The sad thing is we understand the time commitment needed to raise a dog and the responsibility that comes with it. I do hope in the coming weeks or months that we will find the right dog for us without having all the invasive rules that have been mentioned on this post. I will not sign most of the contracts mentioned on this post. I am not going to give some one control over a dog once I have purchased or adopted it.
  12. The American citizens always donate to charities to help out in time of great disasters. The government shouldn't be spending our tax dollars on this.
  13. How about a picnic at a local state park with swimming, vollyball, etc. When I was in youth group we loved going to the lake in the summer and doing a cookout.
  14. I had one of the original Zunes and ended up loosing it somehow in the last 6 months. My dh wanted an IPOD and I absolutely don't like it nearly as well as the Zune. I am hoping to replace mine in the next couple of months.
  15. Here is an interesting article that I came across on another forum that fits right into this discussion. http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2010-08/asa-dfs081010.php I hope that was added in as a link, but I am not sure.
  16. Glenn Beck is very much into going to the original sources. He also recommends at least 1 book per show. He is an original thinker.
  17. I didn't say they were benefiting. If they really cared about the animals, reasonable people would not be excluded from adopting from them b/c they didn't feed them a vegi diet or agree to make them indoor pets, or because they had children under a certain age in their home. Just because you do not buy into all of the stuff they are pushing you to agree to does not mean that you are incapable of taking care of a pet or being a responsible owner. Once again if the animals are not adopted out, they are killed. They could have gone to good homes.
  18. I wouldn't adopt a cat or dog from a humane society that was so intrusive into my life. I would go to a breeder or craigslist or many other sources first. Maybe if these shelters were more reasonable to deal with, more people would adopt pets from them and they wouldn't have to kill so many animals. But then I really don't think they care about that.
  19. I don't reread books either...but one of my favorites was Atlas Shrugged.
  20. They are your cats, you should be able to do with them as you see fit as long as they aren't abused. I perfectly understand not wanting to buy kittens when your cats are perfectly able to make kittens. I also think that you are capable of making a decision of whether you want an indoor, indoor/outdoor, or outdoor dog. The SPCA is known to way overstep their authority. I don't know if breed rescue groups are the same way or not, but that is another option in addition to craigslist and the newspaper. The sad thing is unless they find someone to take that lab puppy, it will be put down. How is that better than being adopted out to a loving family?
  21. Fragrances are one of the things that can cause a reaction. My DM had about a year that any soap, shampoo, makeup, etc caused her to break out pretty bad. She ended up on a prescription and switching to all hypo allergenic stuff to finally get it calmed down.
  22. I would recommend some time in Pisgah National Forest area in NC. There is lots of camping, hiking, tubing, and waterfalls in that area. I would also recommend Stone Mountain near Atlanta GA. If you go into West Virginia there is great white water rafting on the New and Gauley Rivers.
