  1. Very well put, my parents direct my life, but do not force me to do things that I have no interest in doing. I have been interested in many things over the last 17 years of my life, andhave dropeed them. The only thing I have really stuck with is Art/Music, research, and volunteering, which they have no complaints over. I tried doing competitive sports, didn't enjoy it, and now bike with my friends. We race and have fun, we enjoy ourselves, my parents push, but stop if we show too much resistance. My mom is hard on us but to a point, and so is my dad. They let us make mistakes and we go to them to help solve them, we're never pushed, persuaded yes, but never to the extreme of a Tiger mom. Everyone is different, but I would not enjoy having a Tiger Mom or Tiger Dad, I think I would have moved out a long time ago.;)
  2. ... The job prospects of the following careers? Accounting: I got a lot of good feedback about this career, I like working with numbers, problem solving, and people, so this sounds like a good career. Counseling: I like helping people overcome fears, being there for them and again working with people. But I also have heard it is not a good career for those with stress issues. And although I can deal with stress well (especially when it isn't life or death situation), too much stress for anyone isn't good. Finance/Economics: Not my first career of choice, but it may be a good one. I may take some courses to introduce myself to it. History: I enjoy this one the most, but it could take years to achieve a good job, maybe it is worth it in the end? I could see myself doing all of these careers, and I am highly interested in knowing the job prospects of each one. And how much each one may pay. ADD: (I am willing to work towards a master in fields that may require it as well.) TIA!:bigear:
  3. By the time I graduate, I will have: 4 Mathematics (algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, and pre-calc) 4 English (compostion, and speech) 3 Social Studies (US History, world history, and US government and economics) 2 Science (biology, chemistry, and some a&p) 2 of the same foreign language (Spanish) 5-8 extra curricular activities (music, PE, health, art, volunteering, etc.) So in total I will have about 22 credits when I graduate high school. The minimum for high school around here is about 18 or 19, I forget, but I took extra to better prepare myself for college level work.
  4. Beautiful, God is so good. God Bless you, your daughter and family. "So let us come boldy to the throne of our gracious God.There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." Hebrews 4:16.
  5. NM!! No need to answer, I already found some. sorry about that, ugh.:001_smile:
  6. I am just curious as I would like to borrow the book first, and then if it works I will purchase it. It seems like a good program to me, and it is cheaper than any other program I have seen so far. If it has worked, how well did it work for you? Have you been able to maintain while on the diet? What did you like/dislike about it? Thank you! Just curious!:bigear:
  7. Mark Shultz, Tenth Avenue North, Kari Jobe, if you go to KLOVE.com, you can see a whole list of their artists, I like them all!:001_smile:
  8. :iagree:, this has pretty much been me ever since I started homeschool high scool. I have high expectations for myself and as I want to prepare myself well for college, I don't have my parents' hold my hand for everything I do. If I want to be independent (which your dd will need to be for college) then I have to step up and make sure I am learning. Everything creekland said, is what you should do. Good Luck!:001_smile:
  9. Another P&P fan here! I watched the one with Keira Knightley in it, I just love that version! Haven't seen the BBC one yet though, we are ordering it soon!:)
  10. I have tried, but that's really stretching it. I need to wake up earlier I think. Thank you! Funny, I have the most energy in the early hours as well, I can wake up at 5:00, then do the rest of my schoolwork and finish by 11:00. You just gave me an excellent idea! Thank you all for you input!:001_smile:
  11. I know of many barns who will allow you to ride for fun, no competition required. There are all sorts of classes, you can even have classes with other students and don't have to compete. Sometimes you have to ask, but most will tell you right off the bat. HTH!! And good luck!
  12. My dad has a friend that owns a horse (Freisan) and she allows my sister and I to ride for free (it's hard for us to afford lessons of any kind). I have ridden mostly western, but enjoy English too. She instruct us on how to ride, but we mostly do it for fun. I also used to volunteer at a theraputic riding school, and that really expanded my knowledge on horses and people.:)
  13. No it stops me from breathing!:lol: Never do that while eating!:D
  14. Oh my, what state do you live in so I can avoid it.
  15. I love to ride for fun, I don't ever want to compete I think it would kill my love of horses for good. I don't like to compete with horses, I enjoy riding for just that, enjoyment.:) So let her ride, let her learn, who knows, one day if she gets a job she may be able to compete.
  16. I fear venomous ones, not so much the non ones. Do I like them no, and I am glad I live in RI where we hardly if ever encounter them. I also do not mind spiders, I am known as the spider killer in the family. But if I ever see a tarantula you will hear me screaming. I have a major fear of them, I will scream and cry...
  17. All of your replies have been a tremendous help and I see where I am lacking in my scheduling skills. I spend too much time on one subject, especially math and science, so if I limit those to about an 1 to an hour and a half a day, I will be able to add in more. I usually start school around 9:30am and aim to finish around 3:00pm which I can do most days. I can switch reading and writing to the afternoon, I do extra to keep my skills sharp and to prepare for the ACT test. By the late evenings I am dead person, tired but hanging in there!:D Usually I take a break and accomplish any extra work that I couldn't accomplish, and then I move on to my extra curricular activities. I see now that I am trying to push too much into one day, and spreading it out over the course of the week is better. Thank you all for sharing, this has been a great help to me.:001_smile:
  18. I do better if I snack, so about 6 or 7 small meals a day is good for me, but I will try the higher protein and low glycemic diet to see how that works for me. I am starting it today and so far so good. I am not as hungry, and my mom bought me organic, soy protein bars which not only fill me up, but give me an energy boost. It has everything in them I need and I haven't gained any weight from them, so that is good. Thanks! Yes, I find this helps incredibly well, smaller portions but more meals throughout the day. What are high carb fruits exactly? I mean which ones? Although I would love WW, I didn't realize how expensive it was, so I have to create a similar diet to theirs. But you have all given me a lot of help, so I can now create a better diet for myself. Thank you!!!:001_smile:
  19. I notice I am having a lot of trouble trying to schedule all my subjects or at least almost all into one day. I would like to schedule at least most of my subjects into one day, maybe 3-4 at the most. Right now I am only fitting in 2 or 3, and I am not accomplishing everything like I want to. My subjects are Math, Science, History, English, Reading, Bible, Writing, and Research. Usually I just fit in math and Science, while the rest are left out in the cold. How do you plan your schedule for your children? Is it an hour or two a subject and then whatever you didn't finish is left for the next day or homework? Any suggestions are appreciated.
  20. LOL, how old are they? I wish I could get up at 9:00, I am up everyday at 7:30 am.
  21. Rosie, everything you described about yourself is exactly how my body works. If I don't eat enough carbs, I am hungry, too many and my body feels terrible, and if I am hunting for food, then I have not had enough good at to sustain me for awhile. I never thought about eating dates, I like them, but like you stated they do contain a lot of sugar so that is probably the reason why I never bought them. Thank you for the suggestion, and I tried eating two hours after breakfast, it worked out just fine. I am not full, but my hunger is satisfied until lunch time. Thank you!
  22. I have a neighbor who cut her hair into a bob w/bangs, she had a greasy hair problem and can now wash her hair everyday and still have healthy hair because she gets it cut regularly. Now if she wanted it to grow back again, that's a problem because she is best friends with a blowdryer.
  23. Lol, I like that.:) Yes I am snacking because I'm hungry, cutting out crackers I can do too. I generally drink one cup of coffee, and maybe 2 cups of tea, depending on what I eat throughout the day and how cold it is. I have honey, so I will cut out the sugar as well. I feel better with less sugar. Thank you all, now I think I understand how I should plan my meals better. :001_smile:
  24. Good points, and I like the way you described what I can switch out with, I like sweet potatoes, but never buy any. I need to buy some, and switch from high carb to low carb. Thank you so much!
