  1. We turn on German radio for ds who requested learning it. He is starting to pick up words here and there.
  2. I am wondering if you have looked into dietary causes? I have a child who is highly sensitive to food dyes and too much sugar, and needs fats like fish oil omega 3s and calcium magnesium supplements to stay calm.I have another child who had yeast overgrowth from frequent (although 1 time use can do I too ) antibiotic use as an infant. We did Diane Crafts biology of behavior program. It cleared up the overgrowth and it was fairly easy to do. Yeast overgrowth can cause fermention in the gut and can mimic "drunken" type silly behavior. Just something to consider.
  3. I have found incredible advice over at the learning challenging boards. OhElizabeth,Onestep,Geodob, and many others (sorry if I'm leaving anyone out) have been a wealth of knowledge when trying to figure out what was going on with my ds"s.
  4. It is a shame about this particular young man, but I am Hispanic and this is not the reason we homeschool. In fact, our community has very few homeschoolers and most of the Hispanic kids go to public school. It is VERY welcoming to Hispanics. Our community is predominately white and I honestly feel it is more welcoming to Hispanics than our previous community were there was a more diverse mix. It really does depend on the community. Also I think part of the homeschool demographic probably depends on the fact that minorities are that exactly, minorities in terms of amounts. Fewer people means fewer represented.
  5. Part of the reason there is a small minority of hispanics is probably the language barrier (thinking of immigrants mostly). Most want their children to go to school and learn english, assimilate to the culture, and some don't speak english themselves (at least not in a way makes them feel qualified to teach it).
  6. No offense meant, but to be perfectly honest this how I feel on these boards.
  7. My ds is older but he loves having a big stuffed rocking chair in his room.
  8. I vote my dog. Seriously. His is the most patient, kind humble creature imaginable and befriends everyone including other species. Cows would literally break into a trot to come say hello to him and lick his head. He also doesn't take crap from other dogs (his is the alpha-dog) and I know would protect us. Perfect combination of attributes.
  9. My hubby is the messiest person I know. He's clean, but hopelessly messy. I have been trying hard to help him reform for years and he does want to change but it only has gotten slightly better. I can't function in a messy environment so he really tries but I end up decluttering all...the...time. So no, I don't think it is possible to have a complete turn around, maybe just slight improvement.
  10. ETA: favorite quote from a stranger, who approached us in the grocery store (I happened to be buying some wine for my husband, though I don't really drink): "Oh wow, homeschool! ... So ... how much do you spend on alcohol?"   Love this!
  11. :grouphug: Thank you for the updates! Keep them coming. We will keep praying for her!
  12. People that specialized in EF disorders would be great. Ideally all teachers should at least know what they are and be able to recognize them in their students. There seems to be a lack of knowledge about this topic in particular. Also, kids with HF autism seem to fall to through the cracks. It seems everyone is aware autism in general but there seems to be very little help for the unique challenges and splintered skills of HFA. This has been our experience anyway.
  13. I honestly don't care what people wear BUT I do care about what I wear. I workout/run regularly. When running outdoors I have to dress for the occasion obviously. Back when I went to the gym to workout I wore workout clothes out of the house and would stop for groceries or whatever in them. After showering I always change into regular clothes because I feel uncomfortable wearing workout clothes for everyday activities. I don't feel "dressed" in it and I think it looks very sloppy. Live and let live for me but I can't help and think "ugh" when I see people wearing it as everyday wear. Sorry I don't mean to sound harsh. It is just how it looks to me, but then, I enjoy dressing up.
  14. We often have pasta and don't do spaghetti sauce. We sauté vegetables (sweet peppers, onions, garlic, kale, & broccoli) in oil to put in the pasta and sometimes some browned grass fed beef.
  15. This is the age when my boys started their regular lego collection. Lincoln logs were also a big hit.
  16. Ok I see. I guess I must one of the few that sees a much much bigger contrast.
  17. I agree. Appeal. You can get your doc to write a letter.
  18. Everything is better with bacon( in our case it has it has to be nitrate free) and for the record my boys get a kick out of the dancing bacon whenever they walk past me when reading your posts!
  19. I guess then, I'm not understanding your reference in saying I am voting for rape? I
  20. And to be clear I do NOT think I am voting for evil.
  21. It is really unfortunate that this is the way it is interpreted. I think it is a very big jump to assume that the words of one candidate actually=actions. AND that this means what is said above. To me this borders on intellectual dishonesty.
  22. Get neuropsychology evaluations. This transformed my ds life and opened many doors!
