  1. We used it this year with my 1st grader. I think that it would be fine for a 6th grader. I find it interesting and informative myself to read. It really covers a lot of material. I own all three zoology books and it is the longest of the three.
  2. For my dd we have the workbook, and the small slate. She loves them both.
  3. What about Mystery of History? I haven't used it, but was thinking about it.
  4. http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mep/default.htm MEP is a math curriculum used in British schools. It is free to use and print. I just started using it with my kids, and we will be using it along with Horizons this coming year.
  5. We finished our main work about 1.5 weeks ago. For the rest of May, and June we are doing MEP math, and daily reading (ds can read books of his choice daily, and dd is working with me on Phonics Pathways). We will do some nature journaling off and on, and the kids chose weather as a science topic, so we are studying that as a fun unit. I plan to start our next school year in July.
  6. Thanks for all the game ideas :001_smile: It sounds fun, can't wait.
  7. Cool thanks. We are going to do Just MEP until July, and then we will start Horizons again also. I was thinking we might give singapore a try after we finish our Horizons and MEP this year. I had not really looked into all these math options until I came to this forum.
  8. If you use more than one math curriculum how do you combine? My kids will be using Horizons K and 2 next year. I just recently came across MEP thanks to you guys. We started using it today and we all really liked it. I want to continue using along side Horizons when we start our next school year. I was wondering if you do two math programs in one day, or do you rotate? I'm starting my K dd in MEP 1a, and for ds I printed out the 1b. Some of it is easy for him, but it is presented so differently than Horizons, so I wanted to get him used to the concepts before doing 2a.
  9. Our YMCA offers private, semi-private, and group swim lessons.
  10. I just bought a set of these off Ebay. All the talk on here about them intrigued me. The question is what do I do with them once they arrive. They did come with a book.
  11. My dd will be 5 Oct. 31st. We have already started her K work even though if she went to public school here she would not be in K until 2011. I will teach to her where she is at academically, but for sports/activities I will keep her with her PS grade level.
  12. I post often on a few other forums, and I kept hearing mention of an infamous WTM forum. I did a google search for it, and here I am.
  13. We all love brown rice here:001_smile:, but maybe we are weird:lol:. I use a rice cooker though.
  14. Here's mine: http://bobandabbies.blogspot.com/2010/05/weekly-wrap-up_21.html Our school year is done :001_smile:
  15. My kids love the CLP Nature readers. The K book has one animal for each letter of the alphabet. The 1st grade one can be used as a reader or read aloud. We also enjoyed CLP's K science book. I t goes through all seven days of creation.
  16. Check homeschool share they have soom HWT copywork in their lapbooks.
  17. I had a similar experiance last year. I actually took two tests in a row, brcause I could hardly believe it. I didn't know tests could be positive that quickly:lol: Our beautiful boy is 6 months old. Congrats!
  18. We have a 2005 Kia Sedona that we bought about a year ago. We love it and it runs great. It was awesome being able to buy it outright with cash and trade in. Kia has a five star safety rating too.
  19. I finally went over and checked out MEP math. It looks really interesting, and I can't believe they have all of those worksheets for free. I was thinking of trying some of it out with my ds he is 6 will be 7 in July. He just finished Horizons 1, so where should I begin? Is there some sort of placement test or anything? I looked over 1 and 2, and some things in 1a 1b look like things he has done, but there were a lot of problems that were very different than we have covered. He enjoys math, and has his addition facts down.
  20. I do not write in cursive myself. My kids are too young, and I haven't introduced cursive yet. ds will be 7 and I bought him the HWT 2nd grade book for next year, which is print. Now he tells me he wants to learn cursive. I had planned to do cursive in 3rd grade, so we'll see.
  21. We have read aloud time every day. What we read varies. It could be history, science, stories, bible, etc. I have a red bucket that I keep books in by the coach, and I change them every few weeks. The kids all love it! Mine are 6(almost 7), 4, 2, and 6 months.
  22. What grade level does this start at now? Just wondering for future reference.
  23. Thanks guys! That's what I figured, but wanted to make sure there wasn't something special about them.
  24. I just recieved AAS level one and two in the mail yesterday. A really nice lady who I don't even really know sent them to me for just the cost of shipping. Level one has been used. I noticed that everything is still there except for the tokens. I was wondering if someone could describe to me what these look like so I can find a substitute? TIA
