  1. Does this person have children? If so, start returning the favor, just to make sure they are learning as well!
  2. That is funny! I hope this gave the future homeschooling father more reasons on why he should attempt such a notion!
  3. I know this is not quite the same but about 2 years ago our 14 year old babysitter was killed ( along with her 13 year old best friend) on a quad accident. She was the oldest of 4 children and I was heartbroken and was not sure what to do for her family. I ended up purchasing the prettiest locket I could find for her mother. I figured that she could place her picture in and always keep her near. I later found out that the mother had also placed a lock of her daughter hair in the locket and she wears it everyday. Our prayers go out to your friend's family.
  4. We have used A beka as well and are no longer doing their readers at this time. I have just switched him over to reading small chapter books. We have stumbled across a series of books by Linda Lee Maifair, about Darcy J. Doyle the Daring Detective. My son loves them! He now has his silent reading time, but does narrate to me about them. I love to hear the excitement in his voice telling me the stories compared to the way he used to answer the comprehesion questions about the A beka books. I would suggest a trip to the library and see if anything would interest her. We took an online test as well and my son tested to be in a 4th grade comprehension level but below average in phonics as well. I really haven't paid much attention to the test results because I know he knows his phonics and can read. HTH
  5. Along with all the manners already listed above, I have also taught them how proper shake a person's hand! I don't think this is taught much anymore.
  6. I use homemade soap and just use a funnel to pour it into empty milk jugs. Works just fine for us!
  7. If I made a menu out for breakfast, that would be easy....everyday would say cereal! LOL
  8. LoL:iagree: My dc have cel phones too but I have made a rule about their phones. They are NOT allowed to answer their phone unless the call is someone that is programmed into their phone ( I have to approve who is entered in)! I also tell them that if it happens to be someone else that really needs to talk to them, they will leave you a message! I made this rule when my son first got his phone and was receiving sales calls.
  9. My son is heading out on this trip this month and I was looking for some tips to give him. I realize that they are on a tight schedule but was wondering if there was somethings he might be able to see while on his tour. (I mean things to look for while his group moves along-- not leaving the group) Any advice is welcomed! Has anyone else had children do this trip? Thanks in advance!
  10. We just the book from our library ( didn't realize there was a workbook too?) my son is 14. We are standing in line for Do Hard things and Start Here by the Harris brothers!! Looking forward to hearing other reviews of these books as well! Thanks for posting!:bigear:
  11. Why don't you look into being an instrutor for online courses for a community college. I know my Education professor told me that one of his adjunct for a different class ( an online class) lives in a different state.
  12. My policy very cleary states that I am the only person covered to drive my car.
  13. I would recommend a CHI! I have very curly hair and it works very well on getting it straight. My hairddresser has a new flat iron now that she has to add oil in, and boy does it work wonderfully! My hair was so soft when she was finished I couldn't beleive it! I am not sure of the brand but she said it was about $100, the same as the CHI. Just make sure you get a ceramic head on it.
  14. I hope you don't mind if I borrow this one! Awesome!
  15. but she has the energy for it and would perhaps enjoy it. When I subbed in a K classroom there was atleast an hour nap time after lunch when the "morning kids" went home.
  16. I think the same is done here in Indiana although my dc didn't do K here. Infact K is not required in the state of Indiana. Also here in Indiana they have what is called "book rent" for all grades. Yes, you are required to pay for the books your child will use for the year and no you do not get to keep them. For my 8th grader the fee was around 300 dollars give or take a few. It all depends on what classes they sign up for. I never heard of it before moving to Indiana. Back in Michigan, where we are originally from there were no fews for any grade.
  17. Yummy!! We always stuffed the center with a sausage mixture too!
  18. I never use foil while baking a potato in the oven. I do not oil them. I do use foil on the grill, only because I usually place onions, butter and spices in with the potato.
  19. We just happen to run across this show last night when we got home. We missed the first hour!:crying: My boys were even drawn in and thought it was interesting. Can anyone tell me if it will be on again?
  20. We were given postive homeschooling comments at the dentist's office from the office girls then they were gushing about how we could make our appointment for anytime of day lol. Our older neighbor now knows we homeschool, since he seen ds outside one morning this spring and ds told him he was homeschooled when the neighbor asks why he wasn't in school. The neighbor acted like he was in shock. The first question he asked my son after that was " What about your brother? He goes to school doesn't he?" I am not sure if it was really about being homeschooling or the fact that he didn't know! lol
  21. That was great! I am glad to see teachers enjoying school with their students!
