  1. I've exhausted my looking here at the house/in car. I thought I brought it home from church on Christmas Eve, in my purse, as I had my DS's little ornaments on it, kinda like a table in my purse. LOL. The "find my iphone" app says it's still at church. I've tried to play a sound on it to locate it and that doesn't work here or there. I've looked at church TWICE and several people there have helped me. I've looked in nooks and crannies. I've looked in our trash. In boxes. Under cushions. Under and beside beds. In between our homeschool books. In my closet. Basically everywhere but the oven. LOL. I'm asking for good thoughts and prayers...for this fairly trivial and unfortunate but non life threatening situation. It's upsetting me to NO END. I'm in tears over this stupid iPad, and we USE the thing for school several days a week, and I use it for my writing. So, please, if you could spare a prayer, I'd appreciate it. :( Kind hard to replace it right now when we need a "new" used van, new tires, and a repair on the other car.
  2. I've SO enjoyed Apologia's Who Is God book and notebook for my two elementary aged children. I have used Kay Arthur's study books for kids in the past, but I thought they were a bit repetitive. My kids are taking to the style of Apologia and learning and being inquisitive. I think it's a gentle but slightly intensive (ha...what an oxymoron). Not too much, but just enough for them to take in. I think it'd be good to use in middle school too. HTH.
  3. Try the Annie Henry and Will Northway series by Susan Olasky! They are historical fiction set around the Revolutionary War, though. My second and fourth graders are reading through these right now! I've been creating vocab and comprehension, etc activities for them too, to do with it!! I really like them!
  4. Interestingly, I am looking at using HOD CTC next year when MY children will be in the third and fifth grades. We've been doing Trail Guide to Learning POS this year (POE last year) and I want to start a cycle with ancients next year. I've debated about Preparing BUT I do not like the Child's History of the World book. Blech. I had it before and sold it. I feel confident that I can supplement/replace appropriate things for for my younger student for CTC. He follows along with this "a little bit older" program really well. HTH. I am still thinking of doing CTC even though I've read comments otherwise here on your thread.
  5. I'm so sorry things are rough. Sending prayers up for you right now.
  6. I haven't figured out the history cycle, I guess. We've done a couple "units" of ancient history. I suppose we've focused on American History a lot, because of me liking this curriculum so much! We used POE last year and are using POS this year. I am not sure if I will use Paths to Progress next year. We may break and pursue Ancient History and Medieval life for a couple years. My kids are in 2nd and 4th this year, so waiting to do that third level of American History of PTP may be best. I think Paths To Progress is geared for middle school anyways. I haven't worried too much since my kids are in the elementary grades right now. I figured next year my oldest will go through maybe 2 good cycles. HTH.
  7. Everyone has written such wonderful things. This in particular is so sweet. I'm thankful for this thread! :)
  8. We are only on week 2 of school, but we seem to be doing dictation/copywork every day, definitely a larger paragraph than last year (using Paths of Settlement this year, Paths of exploration last year). Also, we have some other writing to do, in vocabulary, comprehension questions, and misc. history assignments as it relates to "your" life and discussion. I am also going to begin IEW each week, the US Volume 1 to go along with POS). Science is not too much writing yet but I think we'll be putting some time into it soon. Literature assignments are not everyday but today she did begin a short story/tall tale and crafted one paragraph. I guess this may not help much but it seems it's similar to some other replies.
  9. I really am in awe...I've put together stuff but am always hesitant with how I am approaching things. You really have a knack and I am SOOOO glad and thankful you shared this. My DD is a horse lover and I really wanted her to read this book this year, and could not find what I wanted to find to accompany it. Til now! WOOHOO!!!! You're the best!
  10. This is wonderful! Thank you! I wanted something for this book!
  11. Not sure if my pm went through. amycthphoto@gmail.com. thank you!!!!!!!!
  12. Wow. I thank you for responding and sharing this. It's amazing! Your testimony is encouraging.
  13. That's wonderful! There are so many varieties and styles out there, I'm finding out, I'm a little overwhelmed but I will get through it. :)
  14. Interestingly, today, as I opened up the Bible, it literally opened up to scripture in Isaiah. Concerning "garlands of grace," and I had seen that business on Etsy yesterday. I did not know where that scripture was and had never heard of it in the Bible before! I mean- it was the FIRST page I opened up to and I decided to go ahead and read! LOL! I took it as confirmation though on how God is leading me..and feel so thankful (no matter where I get my coverings!) for His direction.
  15. Oh, I so appreciate all your replies. It's extremely helpful along this road! I am taking to heart your advice...this is definitely such a personal thing and I do not want to draw attention when out, etc. Glad to hear opinions on covering vs dress/jeans.
  16. Well, I am starting to cover my hair a little bit. Oh my. I can't tell you how SPECIAL it feels and how CLOSE to the Lord I have felt when I have done that and began reading my Bible. It's exciting and emotional at the same time. I'm a Christian who attends church sometimes in jeans but mostly slacks or skirt or dress and who attends a pretty standard "blended" worship service. I play music and sing almost every week. Pretty much it would probably shock people I'm doing this. LOL. NO ONE else in our congregation covers. NO ONE. I've grown up never having to cover or knowing anyone personally who covers. Biblically it has been explained to me as a cultural thing (and I've read so much lately to explain many interpretations) and that is honestly all I thought of it. Until a few days ago. God has just spoken to me in a quiet, mysterious way. I feel humbled. I feel joyful to do this. My husband is ok with it, so far. I want to start "quietly" covering, in my house, and maybe eventually in public. I want to start for the right reasons. I've never thought it was necessary. Still don't, but I do feel called to do so, so I can reflect better on God during my devotions and throughout the day as I homeschool. At this point, I'm not seeing it as something I need to do for my husband, but God alone. Also, I don't want to make my daughter cover. I want be an example to her and allow God to speak to her in His way and time. I don't know how to let my parents and friends know. :tongue_smilie: I guess I just need to know if there's anyone out there like me, you know? I've looked at threads and happened to find some info to help me but thought I'd start another thread.
  17. Wow! I will message you ladies and see who is still available to pen pal! :) fun!
  18. I've been looking at kids stuff at papersource.com. for ideas. There are some cool toys. Some educational. Some just fun and silly.
  19. I think that's a great idea. I just thought of another.. a jar with questions to pull from.
  20. :001_smile: Not sure what other info to give... just that she is a sweet horse crazed little girl. Loves her horse and riding. Did I mention she loves horses? Lol!
