  1. :iagree: I'm working hard to make some final curriculum decisions for next year, so that I can purchase as much as possible at the convention next week.
  2. Thank you for offering two sessions on writing. I look forward to attending both. And I am praying for a quick recovery for your dad. :grouphug:
  3. Mine mostly contains my long-range plans for each of my children. I also have a section that contains great advice I have read on these forums. When I read something that really resonates with me, whether it is general homeschooling advice, or regarding a particular curriculum, I print it out and add it to my notebook. I also have several pages of inspiring quotes that pertain to parenting and education. (Many have come from the sig lines of the Hive.) :D And I have a list of our family read alouds and a list of our field trips.
  4. Oh. Well in that case, I'm very sorry I complained. :blushing: Of course he should stay in Virginia, to help care for your father. I wouldn't have it any other way.
  5. What happened to the "Bauer Family Homeschool" talk that Susan, and her husband, were going to give Saturday morning? It is no longer listed on the revised schedule. :glare:
  6. They revised the Cincinnati schedule again today, and now the Bauer Family Homeschool talk, that Susan and her husband were going to give, is no longer listed!
  7. Would you mind sharing why you are using another lab? The Science Shepherd DVD, that demonstrates the labs, is a strong selling feature for me.
  8. Thanks Janice! I'm not the OP, but I am looking at the same curricula, and found your reply very helpful! :001_smile:
  9. I've been homeschooling for 9 years. I go to a convention every year, and it renews my enthusiasm for homeschooling. However, you have been homeschooling for 20 years! I can't even wrap my brain around that one. You may need something more like a week-long retreat, to a nice warm beach, by yourself. Can you take the next month off from teaching - just have your kids do the pieces they can manage independently?
  10. Yes, the BBQ place is the Montgomery Inn. It's a Cincinnati institution. Last year they had a stand in the vendor hall. They have one or two locations downtown, but you would have to drive to them.
  11. Last year, Inge Cannon had an article on her web site about the top transcript mistakes, so I printed it out and read it, and then skipped her talk. It may still be on her site.
  12. We had a fabulous dinner at McCormick and Schmick's last year. It's in the Westin hotel.
  13. Baby-sitting is one reason for grandparents to attend, but certainly not the only reason. I'm sure some do want to learn about homeschooling, or hear the non-homeschooling related talks, or even fund curriculum purchases. I'm just saying that there is the option to bring a free baby-sitter in the form of a grandparent.
  14. They do say this, and I am thankful for this policy, but the problem is that there is no one in each room to enforce it, other than the speaker, who is busy speaking. I greatly appreciated the room hostesses at the HEAV convention. I wish the Midwest convention had them as well. Another option the Midwest convention does provide, is bringing grandparents along to baby-sit. They can attend for free when you purchase a family registration. I know not everyone has grandparents who are willing/able to attend, but I do think this is a nice perk for those with a willing grandparent.
  15. In Cincinnati, there are about 20 different speakers per hour. To accomodate all the mothers of noisy babies would require 20 additional rooms with sound piped in. Nice idea, but not really practical. For the moms who do have to miss a session because their child isn't quiet, they do have another option to hear the session. They can purchase the recording.
  16. I don't have time to read every post in this very long thread, but just wanted to say that Susan, I would be glad to be your room hostess in Cincinnati for "Homeschooling the Real Child", "The Bauer Family Homeschool", and "How to Get Ready for College". I will be attending all of those sessions and find crying babies, and noisy toddlers, incredibly distracting. I have no problem with approaching a mother and politely, but firmly, asking her to remove her child.
  17. Hey, if any of you have tickets to see the Duggars that you don't need after all, head over to the convention's facebook page. People are posting there, looking for tickets.
