  1. Just to give you a little idea of what you are in for, here is a link to the vendor hall diagram. http://www.cincinnatihomeschoolconvention.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/2012-midwest-homeschool-april-2012-DECC-hall.pdf
  2. The workshop descriptions posted today. The schedule should post any time now.
  3. They just posted the workshop descriptions. Woo hoo!
  4. I looked and I can't find the information either. Are you on facebook? GHC is pretty good about answering questions posted to their wall.
  5. Tuesday? Seriously? On March 1st they told me the schedule would be posted in seven to ten days. Then they said it wouldn't be until the 18th or 19th. Now they are saying the 20th? They jerked us around like this last year too.
  6. I think it is $10 per day to enter the hall for an individual, and $20 per day for a family.
  7. On Facebook they said the Cincinnati and Memphis schedules would be ready this Sunday or Monday (March 18 or 19). We had the same problem last year - the schedule posted less than a month before the convention. http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=334842763228540&id=1077156973#!/pages/Great-Homeschool-Conventions/133893509962887
  8. Thank you so much Lori D. for this incredibly helpful thread! So far, I have found the hardest part of homeschooling high school to be serving as guidance counselor for my ds. Thank you for making that job easier! And thanks so much to everyone else who added their advice and shared their experiences. You guys are amazing! :hurray: I'm printing this all out and adding it to my planner.
  9. Friends of ours used, and liked, Friendly Chemistry. From what I understand, it contains much less math than Apologia. For what it is worth, my ds will take AP Environmental Science in 10th, followed by chemistry in 11th and physics in 12th.
  10. Do you mean you have already received the application and had it approved? I emailed the teacher of a different PA Homeschoolers class today, and have yet to even get a response. Do you think I should be concerned?
  11. The Hyatt is closer. It is directly across the street from the Millennium. I wish the Hyatt had an enclosed Skywalk too. I will miss that feature.
  12. I have to stay at the Hyatt because I have a gift certificate to pay for part of my stay. But it is funny to hear you say that the rooms at the Hilton are huge. I used to work at that property back when it was an Omni, and our biggest complaint was the tiny rooms! Hilton must have renovated it.
  13. Hopefully it will be out a month before the convention - so around mid-March. If I remember right, last year it took them longer though.
  14. Mine too! It's my sanity break. I think I made my hotel reservation last July. :D I've always stayed at the Millennium, but this year will be at the Hyatt. Is anyone else staying there?
  15. I'll be there. I've attended every single year, but have yet to come to a board meet-up. Maybe this year I'll finally meet you all. :D For those who have expressed concerns about safety - I have always felt safe downtown, near the convention center and the hotels. I have walked to area restaurants later in the evening, and have always found the area to be well-lit and full of people. I have never had a problem in the convention center parking garage either. I wouldn't let safety concerns keep you away.
  16. It does seem like Vera set up Mr. Bates, but Richard does have a motive. Remember how he threatened Vera when she sold him the story? If she decided to peddle it to another paper to get it published, then Richard would have two reasons to go after her - breach of contract and for exposing Mary's secret. He could have had an angry confrontation with her that resulted in her accidental death. If he did do it, then he might wind up in jail, leaving Mary free to marry Matthew.
  17. Thanks so much to all of you for taking the time to reply. I didn't think about breaks not lining up. I guess we'll just have to deal with that. I would much rather have the best classes (for my ds) from each provider than just take classes from one company for ease of scheduling.
  18. :iagree: My ninth grader is taking this class through a co-op and really enjoys it. The dvds looked so interesting that I bought them for myself. :D
  19. Veritas Press has online classes. My ds will be taking Spanish 1 with them in the fall. Registration is already open.
  20. Thanks Ellen and Lavender. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a crazy idea. All though, I can see where arranging his schedule could be challenging. I better plot all that out and hope we get our first choice of time for each class. :)
  21. I am looking into some online classes for my 10th grader in the fall. There is one we like at Veritas, another at PA Homeschoolers, and a third at Potters School. Would it be a bad idea to take classes from three different providers in the same school year?
  22. Based on my experience (5 years attending the Cincy convetion, plus two years at the HEAV convention), homeschool conventions are not a place for kids, unless they are nursing babies or over the age of 12. The sessions are usually boring for them. And even the most patient and well-behaved children are pushed to their limits by hours of sessions and a very large and noisy vendor hall. It pushes me to my limits, and I am in my forties. :D I have heard good things about the children's program that is offered, so maybe enroll them in that. Or, if your husband is willing to take them back to the hotel to swim or nap during the day, then I would say bring the kids to the convention. But otherwise, I think they would be much happier left at home.
